This position is primarily responsible for the laboratory testing of raw materials and packaging materials or in-process, release and stability samples for commercial drug products.
Responsibilities:
Perform accurate and timely analysis of raw materials and packaging materials or in-process, release and stability samples for drug products according to current analytical procedures, SOPs, laboratory guidelines and safety requirements.
Testing performed to include basic lab equipment and procedures, such as pH, Loss on Drying, Residue on Ignition, Water Content by Karl Fischer, wet chemistry techniques such as titrations.
Document all laboratory testing and maintain accurate and legible notebooks and records.
Peer review of data, reports and notebooks.
Other projects and duties as assigned.
Experience/Education Requirements:
BS Degree in Chemistry or related field
AS Degree in Chemistry or related field and a minimum of 2 years of pharmaceutical experience in a cGMP-regulated environment
BS Degree in non-science field and a minimum of 4 years of pharmaceutical experience in a cGMP-regulated environment
Knowledge of cGMP, USP/NF, and FDA guidelines and regulations
Experience in analytical methods and lab instrumentation (e.g. pH, ovens, titrations)
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong organization and time management skills
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a cross-functional team
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
Experience with software associated with a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
Work mainly performed in lab

Responsibilities
Lead and execute advanced microbiology testing of raw materials, in-process samples, finished goods, packaging materials, and utilities in support of OTC drug manufacturing.
Drive and oversee the environmental monitoring program (clean-rooms, production areas, utilities) and ensure microbiological integrity of the manufacturing environment.
Investigate microbiological failures and out-of-specification (OOS) results; perform root-cause analysis and lead corrective & preventive actions (CAPA).
Develop/validate microbiological methods (e.g., microbial enumeration, microbial limits, preservative efficacy, endotoxin/bioburden, sterility if applicable) aligned with compendial standards (USP/EP) and regulatory requirements for OTC drugs.
Write and review protocols, reports, deviations, CAPAs, trend analyses, change controls and SOPs relevant to microbiology.
Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, R&D and Engineering to create and maintain microbiological control strategies across the product/process lifecycle.
Monitor and analyze microbial trend data and recommend improvements to facility/processes for risk mitigation and continuous enhancement.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior microbiologists/technicians; promote a culture of excellence, data integrity and continuous improvement.
Support internal audits, external inspections, supplier/contract-lab evaluations as required.
Maintain strict adherence to cGMP, GLP, Good Documentation Practice (GDP), and data integrity standards in the lab and manufacturing environment.
Qualifications
Required: Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology or a closely related science (Master's/PhD preferred).
5-10+ years' experience in microbiology within a pharmaceutical/OTC drug manufacturing environment (or similarly regulated manufacturing).
Hands-on experience with microbiological methods: bioburden, endotoxin, sterility (if applicable), preservative efficacy, microbial identification, environmental monitoring (air, surfaces, utilities).
Familiarity with 21 CFR 210/211, OTC monographs, FDA inspections, compendial guidelines such as USP, etc.
Proven experience with method validation, protocol/report writing, deviation/CAPA investigations, trend analysis and root-cause resolution.
Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills; ability to train and mentor team members and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks and meet manufacturing-driven timelines (including some flexibility for after-hours/weekend support).
Proficiency with LIMS and statistical/data review tools; comfort working in a manufacturing laboratory environment with microbiological cultures, incubators, etc.
Preferred Skills
Experience in vertically-integrated manufacturing operations (raw material → finished goods) and understanding of upstream/downstream impact of microbiology.
Demonstrated track record supporting regulatory inspections or audits (e.g., FDA).
Experience working in an OTC or consumer health product environment.
Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset; ability to influence process improvements based on microbial trend data.
Self-starter attitude and ability to work autonomously within a cross-functional team in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Participates in lab development in support of Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls (CMC) section of NDA or SNDA by direction and interaction with Quality Operations/Regulatory Affairs and CritiTech.
Provides analytical support for proof of concept studies, feasibility studies, routine manufacturing, and troubleshooting using CritiTech's Supercritical Precipitation equipment.
Provides analytical support for proof of concept studies, feasibility studies, routine manufacturing, and troubleshooting using CritiTech's spray drying equipment.
Perform production activities in support of clinical trials, including filling, environmental monitoring, visual inspection, and packaging of vials for further processing.

Performs preventative maintenance and calibration checks on analytical equipment.
Participates in the qualification of new equipment and facilities.

Provides technical support for QO on complaint samples and manufacturing/packaging problems.

Participate in the onsite review of data, facilities and laboratory operations of contract manufacturing and analytical laboratory.
Suggests changes or edits to appropriate SOP's for CritiTech.
Performs release and stability analytical testing with QO in the coordination and management of retest/expiration dating.
Executes testing and lab work in support of technology transfer and stability protocols, stability packaging and manufacturing jobs for CritiTech activities.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Required
BS in chemistry, biology, engineering or related pharmaceutical field with 3+ years industry background in pharmaceutical product development - or -

2+ years preparing and supporting CMC documentation for IND's and NDA's.

POSITION PURPOSE
*This position is for 3rd Shift (Sun-Thurs, 11:00 pm-7:30 am)* Responsible for the accurate analysis of incoming raw materials utilizing current USP, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), Nice Pak's / PDI Test Methods (NPTM), Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). Assures tested raw materials have met the required specification criteria prior to release. Maintain accurate, complete, and traceable documentation related to analysis and disposition.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
Testing Requirements:
Performance of diversified chemical testing as needed by using current USP, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), Nice Pak's / PDI Test Methods (NPTM), and or customer supply method on raw materials, the testing may include but not limited to: pH determination, viscosity, refractive index, specific gravity, etc.
Conduct wet chemical titration to determine the percentage of activity on various solutions and raw materials
Determine the active percentage of various components as required by specifications using of instruments (IR, UV, Auto-titrator, etc.)
Perform identification of various chemicals or formulations as per methodology and requirements
Perform daily calibration, reading, and recording of instruments within the Analytical Lab
Test incoming raw chemicals, components and assure that all the required certification required is accurate and within specification.
Assist in the sampling, testing and release of raw materials when needed
REPORTING & ANALYSIS:
Ensure that all results are accurately recorded in appropriate laboratory logs, designated forms and/or LIMS system.
Lab Maintenance:
Update management or designee with analytical supplies issue
Clean laboratory at specified intervals by following appropriate SOP and/or WI
Prepare and maintain laboratory test solutions and titrants
Additional Requirements:
Determine products' QC disposition from the lab
Complete necessary forms, as needed
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
Test Raw Materials and release it in a timely manner
Ensure sampling, testing, and release of raw materials is done efficiently.
Maintain lab cleanliness in a timely manner.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, other related science
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
Must know Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Be able to read, write and speak English
Read and comprehend Company policies and procedures, including safety rules and regulations
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
A minimum of 0 - 3 years' work experience in a laboratory environment (Analytical Chemistry Lab preferred) or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Ability to multi-task and have good time management skills.
Must have good communication and customer service skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbents in this class are subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, lifting materials weighing up to 30 pounds, vision to monitor and moderate to loud noise levels.
Incumbents may be exposed to or work with toxic materials, toxic gases, electrical hazards, dangerous tools and equipment.

$55,000 - $60,000 annually, plus bonus

What we are looking for:
Test raw materials, intermediates, and finished products for release and stability.
Perform basic and intermediate laboratory operations.
Validate and transfer analytical methods with supervision.
Operate analytical instrumentation including HPLC and FTIR.
Document and review notebook entries accurately.
Write and review test procedures and SOPs under supervision.
Support special projects and train new chemists.
Key Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field + 3 or more years' experience
Laboratory experience in a related field
Experience with GMP practices is preferred.
Proficiency in HPLC, FTIR, and related lab technologies.
Ability to work 4x10 schedule and occasional weekends.
Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
