Evangel University company history timeline
The first day of classes at Evangel was September 1, 1955.
The first permanent structure built on campus was the Klaude Kendrick Library in 1963.
Prior to this, a special summer session was held for foreign missionary candidates of the Assemblies of God during June and July 1973.
In 1985, in response to the concerns of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA), Doctor G. Raymond Carlson, then General Superintendent and President of the seminary, recommended to the Board of Directors that a full-time President be appointed.
In March 1990, Doctor Hall left the presidency to return to full-time teaching.
The Assemblies of God General Superintendent at the time of opening, Doctor Thomas F. Zimmerman, served as the first President, and the Executive Presbytery of the denomination became its Board of Directors, an arrangement which continued through 1990.
The new building, named in honor of Michael Cardone, Sr. and Frances Cardone, was dedicated on September 19, 1997.
In 2010, the Assemblies of God began an effort to consolidate Evangel University with Central Bible College and Assemblies of God Theological Seminary.
A resolution for consolidation was passed at the AG's 2011 General Council in Phoenix, Arizona, following which efforts began to make a formal proposal to the Higher Learning Commission.
The consolidation was approved by the Higher Learning Commission in April 2013, making way for the official launch of the "new" Evangel University in August 2013.
