Reporting to the Vice President for Student life, the Campus Pastor provides leadership and management to all Campus Ministry initiatives in accordance with the mission and policies of Bethel College. The Campus Pastor develops, maintains, and facilitates programs and initiatives focused on Bethel College's commitment to Christian ethics and spiritual vitality; promotes interfaith understanding; and promotes the integration of faith and learning. As a member of the Student Life team, the Campus Pastor also helps the department create a safe and secure campus community that fosters and supports academic success, personal growth, and respect for self, diversity, and community.

Essential Functions
General
* Support the mission, vision, and values of Bethel College

Leadership
* Implementing new or improved initiatives based on the results of the Faith Formation Task Force
* Provide Christ -centered vision to the development and sustainment of a comprehensive effort to engage students in campus ministry through: faith exploration; the promotion of the understanding of different faith traditions, and the integration of faith and learning
* Develop a schedule of activities, programs, and events throughout the year that assist students in the development of an owned faith
* Create community inclusive of diverse populations
* Uphold, demonstrate and enforce community standards and policies
* Provide leadership development opportunities through informal and formal advising responsibilities.
* Demonstrate Servant-Leadership: exemplified by serving others first and providing excellent customer service
* Advise and assist faith-related student organizations and programs
* Serve on appointed college committees including Worship and Arts Symposium, and the Seth Dunn Award Selection Committee

* Represent the college at off-campus speaking engagements (as requested). Aid in the facilitation of positive relationships between Bethel College and Mennonite Church USA and affiliated organizations/initiatives
* Be available for personal counseling times with students (where appropriate), including requests related to spiritual formation, faith development or theological reflections
* Serve on appointed college committees
* Make appropriate referrals
Administration
* Plan and coordinate weekly chapel services and other worship services as necessary. These include: Prologue Days, New Student Orientation, Fall Fest Hymn Sing, Messiah Sing, and Baccalaureate
* Facilitate small group ministries, including spirituality/discussion groups, Bible studies, and other groups as needed. Lead such groups where appropriate
* Coordinate Service Day each fall (expected for students). Service Saturday each Spring (optional for students), and other service opportunities as the need arises
* Promote other service opportunities in the community to students, which may include helping students connect with community partners for regular, ongoing service placements
* Keep regular office hours and maintain a high level of visibility/accessibility
* Investigate critical incidents as they arise and communicate with campus partners/administrators as required
* Coordinate the annual "Lighting of the Green"
* Recruit students for the Ministry Inquiry Program (MIP)
* Manage the use of funds in collaboration with the Vice President for Student Life
* Attend Student Life staff meetings and participate, when available, at special events conducted by colleagues
Campus Stakeholder
* Assist Admissions with prospective student contacts as requested
* Engage faculty, staff, and other campus/community stakeholders
* Host mission/service/ministry recruiters
* Work with other Student Life members in carrying out common goals through on-going communication and by attending Student Life staff meetings
* Assist other Student Life staff members as needed (i.e., during a co-worker's absence or in the event of an emergency)

Secondary Functions
* Lead a Bible study or discussion group (1 hour per week)
* Pursue involvement and advising of new Campus Ministry opportunities
* Pursue opportunities and involvement in college sponsored events and activities
* Visibility and access to connect with students, faculty, and staff weekly
* Flexibility to participate/lead evening and weekend events/commitments
* Connect with the Athletics department through meetings, one-on-one conversations with coaches, occasional attendance at practices when appropriate
* Increase knowledge base in faith formation, intercultural competence, and other ministry training and capacity to pass that on to other ministry leaders
* Assume the responsibility of educational instruction via workshops and activities for all students
* Teach and demonstrate techniques, tactics, and strategies to help students reach their full potential
* Provide constructive feedback and support to all students throughout their matriculation
* Communicate effectively with students to ensure positive and supportive communities on campus
* Stay current with educational trends and platforms that will enhance the development of students on and off campus
Supervisory Responsibility
* Supervise Student Chaplains, including: selection, training and development, accountability, and evaluation
* Supervise first-year Ministry Assistants as part of the Employment Experiences Program
* Plan and outline requirements and expectations for the Student Chaplains and Ministry Assistants

* Bachelor's degree, required

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The CSM position leads ministry in a college campus environment. A designated office space may or may not be available. The CSM is required to travel to on-campus and off- campus sites as appropriate. Off-campus travel includes, but is not limited to: student ministry conferences, Ministry Partnership Development meetings, and InterVarsity- sponsored training sessions, meetings, and conferences. The CSM is regularly required to communicate with others, and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc.
Pay Range: $39,288.00 - $52,392.00 per year
Pay: This position is funded through personal fundraising. Accordingly, compensation will vary based on the ability of the individual to secure a donor team to fund the cost of his/her salary. The anticipated salary range for this position on a full-time basis (40 hours/week) is dependent on a variety of factors, including location and cost of living. The actual salary received, including any geographic adjustment to account for location and cost of living, is subject to the individual's ability to raise funds necessary to cover the full amount of such salary within the range set forth in the job posting details.

Administration
Assure compliance with InterVarsity policies and procedures by:
Observing risk management policy.
Following the budgeting process, and expense reporting requirements.
Submitting quarterly reports to their Link Staff Coordinator for use in supervision and pastoral care.
Submitting reports to their IFES supervisor as requested.
Fund Development and Public Relations
Maintain sound financial status by:
Securing personal financial and prayer support in compliance with fund development guidelines
Nurturing donor relationships through regular prayer letters, personal communication and visits
Speak at small and large groups and churches sharing from Scripture, leading in prayer and worship, and casting a vision for mission and ministry to university students
Maintain good communication practices by:
Contacting their Link Staff Coordinator on a regular and frequent basis.
Distributing ministry updates, at least quarterly, to supporters and prayer partners.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Annually affirm InterVarsity's Statement of Agreement (Doctrinal Basis and Purpose Statement). Abide by InterVarsity's Code of Conduct. Believe and behave consonantly with InterVarsity's Human Sexuality Theological Paper
Clear and ongoing sense of calling to cross-cultural university student ministry
Bachelor's degree required
Prior experience with InterVarsity or other campus ministry preferred
Demonstrated pastoral gifts (call to faith, disciple and mentor young believers, teach biblical and spiritual principles) and calling to cross cultural ministry and mission

Pay Range: $25,088.00 - $46,776.00 per year
Pay: This position is funded through personal fundraising. Accordingly, compensation will vary based on the ability of the individual to secure a donor team to fund the cost of his/her salary. The anticipated salary range for this position on a full-time basis (40 hours/week) is dependent on a variety of factors, including location and cost of living. The actual salary received, including any geographic adjustment to account for location and cost of living, is subject to the individual's ability to raise funds necessary to cover the full amount of such salary within the range set forth in the job posting details.
