Everett Community College company history timeline

1941

First day of class in September 1941.

EvCC was founded in 1941, with the college's first students taking classes at a converted elementary school.

The Everett School District tried again in 1941, opening Everett Junior College in a former elementary school.

1957

In 1957, construction began on a new college campus in north Everett.

1958

The campus, which originally included seven buildings, opened in 1958.

1966

On Oct 24, 1966, Robert Kennedy & Senator Henry Jackson spoke to hundreds of EJC students and community members at the college's student union.

1967

The college's name changed to Everett Community College in 1967 to conform with the Washington State Community College Act.

1988

A new library and service building was opened in October 1988 at the same site and dedicated to Parks, who was honored with a statue in the courtyard.

1999

Everett Community College offered its first classes in Monroe in 1999 at Monroe High School through a partnership with Monroe Public Schools.

2003

The first Snohomish County Students of Color conference took place in January 2003.

2005

17 EvCC alumni have been drafted by Major League Baseball since the college’s baseball program was restarted in 2005 including Texas Rangers pitcher Keone Kela.

2006

The Everett Public Schools joined as a conference co-sponsor in 2006.

2008

In Summer of 2008 EvCC adopted "Common Course Numbers". Check out the Common Course Numbers (CCN) for more information.

2009

The information in the current catalog reflects current programs, requirements, and costs as of August 1, 2009.

2010

In September 2010, the East County Campus opened its doors in the Lake Tye Building to better serve residents and businesses of Monroe, Snohomish, Lake Stevens, Sultan, Granite Falls, Gold Bar, Index, Mill Creek and other areas.

2011

13, 2011: Dignitaries cut the ribbon to celebrate the opening of the East County Campus in the Lake Tye Building in Monroe.

2013

The first full-time faculty member joined the East County Campus in the 2013-14 academic year to teach math and provide advising for students.

2017

EvCC is celebrating its 75th anniversary with a free community celebration 4-6 p.m. on June 14, 2017, at EvCC’s Walt Price Student Fitness Center.

2021

In 2021, Elmer Nash pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder of Parks; he had been 12 years old at the time of the arson and admitted to starting it to conceal a theft.
