This position provides direct supervision of internal, external, and on call work crews. Oversees resources and personnel engaged in the operation, maintenance, and construction of Eversource Energy gas distribution systems. This position is multi-faceted with responsibilities that include integrated planning and scheduling, execution of fieldwork activities, adhering to Company and regulatory rules and procedures, performance measurement, coaching, safety adherence, mentoring and various administration duties. Prepares and executes maintenance and construction activities along with coordination and schedules. Communicates with customers and community officials concerning all aspects of utility construction, operations, maintenance, and service delivery. This is a 2nd shift position. The tentative hours are 2:00 PM -10:00 PM. Shifts are subject to change based on business needs. Essential Functions: Plans, organizes, and manages the Gas Maintenance and Construction field workload through accurate coordination and scheduling, with others. Exercises independent judgment in the supervision and oversight of in-house crews and contractors engaged in the operation, maintenance and construction of Eversource gas distribution system. Communicates with customers and community officials concerning all aspects of utility construction, operations, maintenance and service delivery. Exercises independent judgment in serving as the on-scene supervisor to outages. Responds to and classifies reported gas leaks. Ensures all engineering and gas control procedures are followed. Participates in the supervisory on-call rotation, which involves assigning and directing the work of unionized internal work crews. Ensures the safety of personnel by taking direct preventive measures, conducting effective weekly safety meetings and ensuring all related procedures, standards, rules and laws are understood and followed. Ensures that work performed by Specialists and internal/external crews is in accordance with appropriate Company standards and work methods including monitoring the work of Specialists and internal/external crews for a high quality of workmanship and productivity. Responsible for providing complete, accurate and timely work packages for work crews including required permits, dig safe authorization, drawings and other related instructions. Monitors current and future workload to ensure district plans and schedules maximize productivity, control costs and meet or exceeds service level agreements. Ensures rigorous compliance with regulatory and Company work rules and procedures. Initiates, and conducts investigations concerning appropriate disciplinary action for Specialists and other unionized employees when required. Understands and complies with the labor contract and works to resolve initial grievances. Participate in hiring panels. Reviews and approves billing for accuracy and completeness, in accordance with contract language. Must be able to wear Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and required PPE in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. Qualifications: Technical Knowledge/Skill: Requires knowledge of gas distribution system design, operations, maintenance, and construction principles and practices, safety standards and business processes. Requires project and schedule management skills including computerized work and materials management and scheduling tools. Working knowledge of the labor contracts. Requires communication, interpersonal, conflict resolution, attention to detail, and teamwork skills. Ability to use PC desktop applications (e.g. Microsoft Word & Excel). Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, related discipline or equivalent experience. Experience : Five (5) or more years of experience in Gas Distribution, and/or Field Service design and/or installation, servicing customers or utility operations. Supervisory experience preferred. Licenses & Certifications: Valid Motor Vehicle Operators license is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain required Operator Qualifications. Working Conditions: This position is categorized as safety-sensitive for the purpose of drug testing. Successful applicants shall be subject to a pre-assignment drug test if the individual is currently in a non-safety sensitive position. As an employee in this position the individual shall be subject to random drug testing. Work is conducted outside, in varied conditions and terrain including adverse weather conditions, and in a normal office environment. Work requires sitting, walking, standing, stair climbing, completion of paperwork, using a telephone and computer and attending meetings. Drives to various job site locations and customer premises to supervise work, and review or discuss construction job requirements. May work with computers for long periods of time during the day. PRIMARY DUTIES: * Monitors, operates and maintains Network Management System including the operation of SCADA equipment. * Plans, writes, checks, approves, directs, issues clearances and monitors orders for switching, grounding and tagging instructions for the distribution system. * Receives trouble calls (tickets) from customer service center, analyzes the problem, initiates corrective action with appropriate district function including call-out of personnel in accordance with established procedures. Directs corrective action as required by timing or circumstances, and informs appropriate system personnel (customer service center, T&D staff, districts, etc.) of problems on the electric distribution system and associated restoration progress. * Monitors load and voltages on circuits and substation equipment during switching and peak periods to assure loading parameters are not exceeded. * Assists at Division EOCs and other levels of RMTs during emergency storm restoration as assigned. * Maintains the Company's operations diagrams and associated databases to reflect current system status. * Operates and maintains database for NMS system (new customers circuit changes, etc.) through existing and replacement technologies (i.e. OMS to Mobile, DMS, etc.). * Monitors SCADA, substation system alarms. * Coordinates Eversource switching requirements between system operators and appropriate region and/or district personnel for assigned shift. * Prepares, disseminates, and maintains the system operations center records and reports in support of system operations (i.e., circuit and equipment loads, nomenclature, interruption reports, emergency contact telephone numbers for governmental agencies, large customers, other utilities, and others). * Operates PC-based and mainframe applications. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required, Associate's Degree in Electrical Technology, preferred. 2. Three + years of related electrical utility experience required. 3. Must pass EEI system operator's test and internal distribution knowledge tests. 4. Must be capable of communicating and responding effectively in person and via communication systems and equipment. Must also be able to differentiate colors in order to read the distribution system map and operate computer consoles. 5. Must have demonstrated the ability to keep track of a variety of details, to adjust quickly to changing situations, to visualize and analyze system conditions, to apply knowledge of dispatching principles and Company regulations in the resolution of problems, to give instructions clearly concisely and to secure the cooperation of others. 6. This role is designed for students or recent graduates with foundational knowledge in power systems and electrical engineering who are eager to gain hands\-on experience in utility planning, operations support, and reliability studies\. **Essential Functions:** **Model Development Support:** + Assist in building and maintaining transmission system models used for planning studies\. + Collect and review forecasted load data for inclusion in system models\. + Help gather and validate system parameters such as equipment ratings, impedances, protection settings, and network topology\. **Study Assistance:** + Support transmission system impact studies across Eversource's service territories\. + Contribute to the development of study scopes and documentation under guidance\. + Apply planning standards and regulatory criteria \(e\.g\., NERC, NPCC, ISO\-NE\) in study work\. + Participate in testing solution alternatives to address identified system issues\. **Technical Analysis:** + Assist in performing steady\-state, stability, short circuit, and electromagnetic transient \(EMT\) analyses\. + Support System Operations via researching disturbance events and other analyses\. + Help automate study processes using transmission analysis tools\. + Interface with internal departments and external entiti **Collaboration & Communication:** + Work closely with senior engineers and cross\-functional teams\. + Interface with internal departments and external entities such as ISO\-NE\. + Support documentation of study results and preparation of technical reports\. + Contribute to the development of training materials and presentations\. **Technical Knowledge/Skills:** + Basic understanding of power system concepts including modeling, load flow, and symmetrical components\. + Exposure to power system analysis tools such as PSSE, ASPEN, PSCAD, or similar software is a plus\. + Strong written and verbal communication skills\. + Team\-oriented with effective interpersonal and organizational skills\. + Eagerness to learn and take initiative in a technical environment\. **Education:** + Currently pursuing a B\.S\. in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a focus on Electric Power Systems\. **Experience:** + Coursework or project experience related to transmission planning, power system analysis, or electrical design preferred\. **Worker Type:** Student / Intern \(Fixed Term\) \(Trainee\) **Number of Openings:** 1 **Emergency Response:** Responding to emergency situations to meet customers' needs is part of every employee's role\.
