Cardiovascular Utilization Management Reviewer (Interventional Cardiologist)

What You'll Do:
Provide expert reviews for cardiovascular cases, serving as a specialty-matched expert reviewer for invasive/interventional cardiology cases (e.g., cardiac catheterizations, coronary interventions, endovascular procedures, implantable cardiac devices, etc) that do not initially meet medical necessity guidelines or require further evaluation by a subject matter expert.
Conduct peer-to-peer discussions with treating providers to ensure appropriate, high-value care aligned with clinical guidelines.
Collaborate with leadership, management, and clinical staff to address complex cases and support decision-making.
Act as a key resource for Initial Clinical Reviewers, offering guidance and expertise to ensure the application of best practices.
Provides clinical rationale for standard and expedited appeals.
Discusses determinations (peer to peer phone calls) with requesting physicians or ordering providers, when available, within the regulatory timeframe of the request.
Utilizes medical/clinical review guidelines and parameters to assure consistency in the MD review process to reflect appropriate utilization and compliance with SBU`s policies/procedures, as well as Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC) and National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) guidelines.
Ensures documentation of all communications with medical office staff and/or MD provider is recorded in a timely and accurate manner.
Participates in on-going training per inter-rater reliability process.
May assist the Senior MedicalDirector in research activities/questions related to the Utilization Management process, interpretation, guidelines and/or system support.
On a requested basis, may function as MedicalDirector for selecting health plans or regions, assuming overall accountability for utilization management while working in conjunction with the Senior MedicalDirector.
Qualifications
MD/DO/MBBS Degree
Current, unrestricted clinical license in medicine or required specialty
Obtaining and maintaining medical licenses in the state you reside, as well as, other state licensure required per business needs
Active Board Certification in Interventional Cardiology or may be substituted for one of the following:
Active Board Certification in Cardiology and proof of prior board certification in Interventional Cardiology
Active Board Certification in Cardiology and proof of active practice as an Interventional Cardiologist for 5+ years
Strong clinical, management, communication, and organizational skills
Energetic and curious with a passion for quality and value in health care
Computer Proficiency
Minimum of five (5) years' experience in the practice of Cardiology is preferred
Not under current exclusion or sanction by any state or federal health care program, including Medicare or Medicaid, and is not identified as an “excluded person” by the Office of Inspector General of the Department of Health and Human Services or the General Service Administration (GSA), or reprimanded or sanctioned by Medicare.
No history of a major disciplinary or legal action by a state medical board

The expected base salary/wage range for this position is $120-$140/hr. This position is also eligible for a bonus component that would be dependent on pre-defined performance factors. Qualifications

Knowledge of CQI and PDSA type quality and safety improvement structure

The Opportunity
This is a unique executive opportunity for a physician leader to shape the future of our Occupational Medicine services in Louisiana. The Regional MedicalDirector of Occupational Medicine is a "player-coach" role, blending strategic oversight, program development, and hands-on clinical practice. You will be responsible for the clinical quality, operational efficiency, and financial success of the OccMed service line across all clinics in the region. You will lead our clinical teams, build lasting partnerships with major employers, and provide direct supervision for our Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), all while maintaining our clinical practice at our Youngsville, LA clinic.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Program Development (20%):
Develop and execute a comprehensive regional strategy to grow market share and expand Occupational Medicine services.
Standardize clinical protocols, workflows, and best practices across all regional locations to ensure consistent, high-quality care.
Partner closely with the sales and business development teams to attract, onboard, and retain key corporate clients.
Analyze regional performance metrics (KPIs), financial reports, and market trends to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
Serve as the clinical subject matter expert during high-level sales presentations and contract negotiations.
Clinical Oversight & APP Supervision (5%):
Serve as the designated supervising or collaborating physician for Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), including Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, across the region.
Maintain a full supervisory roster, overseeing up to the maximum number of APPs as permitted under your license by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.
Fulfill all supervisory duties, including regular chart reviews.
Provide direct clinical leadership and mentorship to all physicians and APPs in the region regarding occupational medicine
Act as the primary point of escalation for complex clinical cases, client concerns, and regulatory inquiries.
Implement and lead a robust quality assurance (QA) program for your region.
Hands-On Clinical Practice (75%):
Maintain a clinical practice based at our Youngsville, LA flagship clinic.
Perform the full spectrum of occupational health services, including workers' compensation injury management, DOT physicals, and pre-employment examinations.
Provide coverage in urgent care as needed, serving as a model of clinical excellence for the team.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required:
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
Board Certification in a relevant specialty (Occupational Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine).
A minimum of 5-7 years of clinical experience with a significant focus in Occupational Medicine.
Proven leadership experience (e.g., MedicalDirector, Lead Physician, or similar multi-site oversight role).
Must hold an active, unrestricted medical license to practice in the state of Louisiana with eligibility to supervise APPs.
Current, unrestricted DEA registration.
Must be a Certified Medical Examiner on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME) for DOT physicals.
Preferred:
Board Certified in Occupational Medicine (ABPM).
Significant experience supervising and mentoring Advanced Practice Providers (APPs).
Medical Review Officer (MRO) certification.
Advanced degree (MPH, MHA, MBA) is highly desirable.
Demonstrated experience in business development and managing client relationships.
Strong business acumen with experience in budget oversight or P&L responsibility.

The Director of Infectious Disease Services will provide critical Infectious Disease expertise of infection control and supervise population health efforts to prevent morbidity and mortality from communicable illness. The Medspan program provides patient education and care coordination around HIV, hepatitis C, and associated conditions such as hepatitis B and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Medspan team members support patients through medication adherence support, discharge planning, and connection to care services. The MedicalDirector works across the Correctional Health Service Medicine service, with MedSpan staff and with other interdisciplinary Correctional Health Services (CHS) staff in all facilities to provide, improve, and evaluate patient centered infectious disease care.
Responsibilities include: (Detailed Task)
Clinical Responsibilities:
Identify individuals admitted to correctional facilities with infectious disease (ID) needs through the utilization of electronic health records, report management systems, and various tracking tools.
Provide direct patient care to individuals experiencing acute or chronic infectious disease conditions, including but not limited to HIV, hepatitis C and B, sexually transmitted infections, tuberculosis, skin and soft tissue infections, wounds, and systemic bacterial processes.
Deliver clinical consultation and guidance related to infectious diseases to site medicaldirectors (SMD), infection control teams, and clinical staff.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Offer direct administrative and clinical supervision for the infectious disease service, encompassing ID clinicians and the Medspan team.
Oversee staffing requirements for the infectious disease service within the facility.
Direct the formulation and execution of workflows and protocols pertinent to the infectious disease service.
Organize and lead regularly scheduled rounds and meetings for the ID team.
Facilitate conferences and seminars with other clinical services and both CHS-based and external re-entry programs.
Provide supervisory clinical guidance to the SMD and staff of the communicable diseases unit (CDU).
Oversee admission and discharge criteria for patients with confirmed or suspected communicable diseases within the CDU.
Lead patient tracking initiatives within the CDU, monitoring clinical conditions, medication regimens, and laboratory results.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have all of the following:
1. Graduation from a medical school approved by the Council on Medical Education and

2. Completion of an acceptable internship in an approved hospital.
3. A license to practice medicine in the State of New York.
4. Certification by American Board in field of specialization or a faculty appointment of Associate Professor or higher in a medical school recognized by the American Medical Association.

POSITION SUMMARY
Under administrative and clinical supervision of the Regional MedicalDirector, the Site MedicalDirector is responsible for promoting and providing high-quality medical care. Works collegially and cooperatively with the Regional MedicalDirector, other physicians, physician extenders (e.g., physician assistants, nurse practitioners, etc.), dentists, psychiatrists, psychologists, and any other medical professionals working within the medical facilities at the site. Responsible for maintaining utilization management and clinical practice standards through the application of the organization's clinical criteria. Participates in the development of medical/clinical policies and case consultation to clinical staff when asked. Maintains the highest level of medical quality and service at the assigned site and represents organization clinical philosophy to patients, providers, facility personnel, and the community. Utilizes electronic medical record system as applicable throughout the scope of duties and responsibilities.
1. Participate in Clinical Case/Disease Management initiatives.
• Treats difficult to manage patients with chronic disease.
• Utilizes Corporate clinical experts to assist in chronic disease management.
• Reviews all patients to be presented at Collegial Review for off-site/specialty care Prepares and presents cases at the Collegial Review.
• Ensures that no backlogs occur for chronic care clinics and sick call by working with site providers and site manager.
• Ensures appropriate infirmary care is delivered. Supervises infirmary rounds.
• Reviews care plans for all patients returning from hospitalizations, ER runs, and off-site specialty care visits.
• Reviews and signs-off on labs daily.
2. Provides clinical supervision (a leader and mentor for) staff physicians and mid-level providers at the site level.
3. Works closely with the site manager to ensure successful, efficient and effective patient care.
4. Responsive to Corporate, State-wide, Regional MedicalDirectors and Regional and Site Managers.
• Checks email at least twice daily.
• Respond to the Agency MedicalDirector with guidance from the Regional and State-wide MedicalDirectors.
5. Addresses medical grievances with assistance of Site Managers.
6. Communicates regularly with dentists, mental health professionals, and optometrists on site to develop a more holistic approach to healthcare for our patients.
7. Responsible for communicating clinical and administrative issues to Site Manager and Regional MedicalDirector quickly and efficiently.
• Develops corrective action plans for clinical and administrative deficiencies in conjunction with the Site and Regional Managers and Regional MedicalDirector.
8. Performs death and case reviews prior to sending these reviews to the Regional MedicalDirector.
9. Performs Peer Reviews on MedicalDirectors/providers from other facilities.
10. Participates in monthly reviews of off-site care, DME utilization, provider prescriptive practice, laboratory, and x-ray services for their site in conjunction with the State-wide MedicalDirector, Regional MedicalDirector and Corporate Director of Pharmacy Services or designee.
11. Meets with the Warden/AWP regularly and develop good working relationships with security.
12. Assists Staffing in provider recruiting initiatives.
13. Participates in provider training.
14. Participates in audits.
15. Ensures site clinical coverage. Shares in after-hours and weekend call duties.
16. Other duties as assigned by the State-wide and Regional MedicalDirectors.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for providing scientific and clinical direction to the HLA clinical laboratory and reports to a designated member of the SQL/LSA senior leadership team and a MedicalDirector. This position is responsible for oversight of all licensed and unlicensed personnel in the HLA department and serves as a mentor and assists in the development of HLA Director in Training (DIT) candidates per ACHI. Responsible for providing technical interpretation of results, providing consultations with physicians, overseeing research projects, implementing new assays/assay troubleshooting, quality assurance, and reviewing SOPs. Assumes Clinical Consultant responsibilities and participates on site and system-level committees as assigned/required. This position will hold a faculty appointment with the University of Arizona Department of Pathology.
Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
PhD in in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science.
Two (2) years appropriate specialty experience.
Board certification by the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI) in the following areas of accreditation:
Solid Organ Transplantation: Live Donor
Solid Organ Transplantation: Deceased Donor

As a Physician Clinical Reviewer, Interventional Pain Management, you will be a key member of the utilization management team. **Collaboration Opportunities:**
+ Routinely interacts with leadership and management staff, other Physicians, and staff whenever a physician`s input is needed or required. Aids and acts as a resource to Initial Clinical Reviewers.
**What You Will Be Doing:**
+ Serve as the Physician Clinical Reviewer for Interventional Pain Management, reviewing cases that do not initially meet the applicable medical necessity guidelines, as well as other imaging requests when providers, clients, or state laws require specialty reviews to be completed by the subject matter expert.
+ Discusses determinations (peer to peer phone calls) with requesting physicians or ordering providers, when available, within the regulatory timeframe of the request.
+ Utilizes medical/clinical review guidelines and parameters to assure consistency in the MD review process to reflect appropriate utilization and compliance with SBU`s policies/procedures, as well as Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC) and National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) guidelines.
+ Provides clinical rationale for standard and expedited appeals.
+ Ensures documentation of all communications with medical office staff and/or MD provider is recorded in a timely and accurate manner.
+ Participates in on-going training per inter-rater reliability process.
+ On a requested basis, may function as MedicalDirector for selecting health plans or regions, assuming overall accountability for utilization management while working in conjunction with the Senior MedicalDirector. May assist the Senior MedicalDirector in research activities/questions.
**Qualifications - Required and Preferred:**

The expected base salary/wage range for this position is $100-$110/hr. This position is also eligible for a bonus component that would be dependent on pre-defined performance factors.
