Applications Engineering Department Objective: To evaluate design requests and assist in the pre-sale design and costing of water and wastewater treatment equipment, and to provide technical assistance to both Internal and External Customers including Consulting Engineers, end users, Plant Operators, Sales Representatives, Cost Estimating, and Customer Service with the end goal of securing systems orders for the company. Interns within the Applications Engineering department may be tasked with the following: Evaluate design requests and assist in the preparation of preliminary designs and costing of wastewater treatment equipment for biological and filtration treatment systems. Determine electrical and mechanical equipment costs for preliminary process designs. Performs operations, testing and reporting within pilot studies to meet objectives in coordination with other departments, at customer sites. Provide technical assistance to Internal and External clients including Consulting Engineers, End Users, Plant Operators, Sales Representatives, Sales Cost Estimating, and Customer Service. Prior coursework in wastewater systems is strongly encouraged for this position. Research & Development Department Objective: To conduct applied research on existing products and new technologies in the fields of wastewater treatment, reclamation and water treatment. To manage the execution of pilot studies to meet objectives in coordination with other departments, and facilitate testing at customer sites, producing documentation that may be used for internal and external purposes. Interns within the Research & Development department may be tasked with the following: Manage data collection and interpretation to prepare effective, meaningful statistical evaluations, graphs, and tabulations within written and oral reports for accessibility by other internal departments, and external customers. Use and maintain process simulation and modeling tools to support internal departments. Due to the location of testing services, candidates for this position must have access to a vehicle throughout their term of employment (mileage reimbursement available). Additional Potential Opportunities during Internship Each intern may also have the opportunity for additional experience within Aqua-Aerobic Systems as time permits. Past projects/duties include: develop and lead test runs to optimize refinery operations; perform process engineering calculations concerning the various process technology (or equipment) in the refinery; monitor and make recommendations in regards to catalyst and adsorbents; complete projects and provide recommendations for improvements to the refinery process and equipment. Operations Research Engineers may help develop planning, blending, scheduling, and process models for refinery engineers. The models are used to optimize crude oil purchasing, refinery production, blending and finished product scheduling, and optimization of refinery production. Typical college co-op assignments include: validation of production data and mass balancing, process modeling, and development of graphical interfaces of refinery process units. Environmental Engineers work on projects that involve the compliance of the entire refinery, and you will be exposed to the majority of process units in the refinery. You will be applying the engineering principles and calculations to various environmental projects and will also give you a broad knowledge of the various environmental laws that are applicable to refineries and what it takes to maintain compliance with those laws. Past projects/duties include: perform process calculations for the Risk Management Plan, including taking physical surveys of refinery process units; work on various process engineering projects within a Wastewater Treatment Plant; participate in inspections and/or testing that is conducted by federal, state, or local officials. Products Control / Economics Engineers may work on a wide array of projects including operations, blending, and refinery economics. You will gain an understanding of how a tank farm is operated and how gasoline and other products are prepared and shipped to customers. In addition, you will gain some exposure to the overall economics of the refinery and how operating decisions are made based upon these economics. In this full-time role (30-40 hrs/week), you will understand the purpose, goals, processes, and metrics of the Project Management Office (PMO), which will grant you insight into project management tools like Monday.com, data reporting, and process improvement. Furthermore, you'll have the opportunity to showcase your skill in analyzing data and drafting visuals for large, broad audiences. Key to this is the chance to collaborate cross-functionally to understand the needs of Department staff. Our Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) will rely on you to gather and sort the most crucial information, then share your findings with them. With this understanding, you will develop a Performance Metrics Dashboard that tracks PMO Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). This Dashboard will be published on the PMO's SharePoint page and updated quarterly from then on. That is, your work will be on display for the whole team to see and use even after your Internship is over, benefiting the creditability and implementation of the PMO's 2027 plan. In addition, you will provide templates to create a fully built PMO Resource Library. To do this you will review all templates currently in the PMO Library and compare that list to the recommendations of the Project Management Institute (PMI)-a globally recognized Project Management organization-then identify gaps which you will fill and outdated templates which you will update. This experience will grant you insight into: How to improve data analysis and visualization. How to improve presentation skills and best practices.
