UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is currently hiring and enrolling a Flex Full-Time Medical Dosimetrist Trainee to work/train within the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center Radiation Oncology program/network. This position will work a variable daylight schedule Monday through Friday.
The medical dosimetrist trainee is actively participating in a medical dosimetry graduate program and receives supplementary clinical training at UPMC's JCERT-accredited dosimetrist training departments. The trainee is responsible for obtaining the competencies required to become a medical dosimetrist at UPMC. This includes participating in patient data acquisition, radiation treatment planning, quality management for radiation oncology patients, and communicating with the clinical team during treatment planning and treatment plan implementation. The trainee works under the supervision of certified medical dosimetrists at each department and progressively expands clinical capabilities throughout the program.
Responsibilities:
+ The medical dosimetrist trainee must attend and successfully complete a formal degree-granting medical dosimetry program. In addition, the trainee, under the supervision of the certified medical dosimetrist:
+ Generates clinically optimal treatment plans utilizing knowledge of anatomy and physiology, radiation biology and oncology, radiation safety and protection, mathematics, radiation therapy techniques, physics, and technology.
+ Communicates with the radiation oncologist during the treatment planning process and participate in communicating the plan to the medical physicist and radiation therapy technologists for plan implementation.
+ Maintains a commitment to a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and safety.
+ Utilizes critical thinking skills when performing radiation treatment planning, plan evaluation, recognizing and resolving equipment problems and treatment discrepancies.
+ Ensures accurate data transfer of patient and treatment plan information to clinical systems including but not limited to record and verify systems, imaging guidance systems, surface guidance systems, treatment delivery systems, and electronic medical record systems.
+ Participates in acquisition of patient data via computer generated data sets from medical imaging devices such as CT, PET, MR, etc., or manual methods such as physical measurements and wire contours, and incorporation of these data into radiation treatment plans, calculations, and treatment devices.
+ Assists the RTT in the treatment simulation process including the use or necessity of ancillary treatment devices, patient immobilization techniques, and other patient positioning techniques as needed for simulation and treatment. Assists in fabrication of these ancillary treatment devices.
+ Contours and delineates clearly discernable normal critical structures and expanded planning structures using different imaging modalities.
+ Performs rigid and deformable image registration for multi-modality image sets.
+ Applies the principles and concepts of radiation physics in radiation treatment planning, which includes, but is not limited to: 2D treatment planning, 3D conformal treatment planning, intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) treatment planning, 4D treatment planning, volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) planning, stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) planning, and brachytherapy treatment planning.
+ Applies knowledge of radiobiology with respect to dose tolerances, time dose fractionation calculations, hypofractionation, BED and EQD2 calculations and other applications of radiobiology to the radiation therapy treatment process.
+ Accurately performs radiation dose calculations, both manual and computer generated, for treatment delivery including the effects of beam modifying devices, irregular fields, gaps for adjacent fields, and off-axis calculations.
+ Participates in special treatment procedures including, but not limited to, total body irradiation (TBI), total skin electron irradiation (TSEI), intra-operative radiation therapy (IORT).
+ Assists with quality assurance procedures as directed by a qualified medical physicist.
+ Performs or assists with patient-specific radiation measurement including, but not limited to diodes, optically stimulated luminescent dosimeters (OSLD), ion chambers, thermo-luminescent dosimeters (TLD), or film measurements as directed by the MP.
+ Assists with high dose rate (HDR) and low dose-rate (LDR) brachytherapy procedures including patient set up, simulation, and treatment planning.
+ Participates in quality management in accordance with departmental policies, national guidelines, and accreditation standards.
+ Performs routine chart checks per departmental policy.
+ Participates in charge capture and generates documentation for billing in accordance with departmental policies.
+ Participates in clinical research for the development and implementation of new techniques in radiation therapy.
+ Participates in educational activities such as providing instruction and training to new staff members, physician residents, physicist residents, RTT trainees, and medical dosimetrist trainees.
+ Maintains an atmosphere of caring, concern, and support for patients, visitors, medical staff, and colleagues.
+ Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as directed by supervising medical physicists.
+ Adheres to high ethical standards in relation to patients, students, trainees, and colleagues.

UPMC's Student Nurse Internship (SNI) program allows you to put what you learned in nursing school into practice by working side-by-side with a preceptor. This is a temporary 10-week paid opportunity during the Summer of 2026.
During the internship you will have the opportunity to:

**Purpose:** Under the direction of a licensed Audiologist, assesses all aspects of auditory function in children ages birth to 18 years of age and implements a plan of auditory habilitation for those with auditory dysfunction. **Responsibilities:** + Perform comprehensive audiologic assessment, including a comprehensive history, in a manner appropriate to the age and ability of the patient consistent with the range, nature and degree of hearing function to provide information for the differential diagnosis of hearing loss.
+ Differentiate between organic and nonorganic hearing loss through evaluation of total response pattern.
+ Ensure patient safety through contacting a physician, either through the ENT services or ER, of any occurrence or incident relating to patient care to provide care as needed.
+ Perform responsibilities regarding billing by completing proper forms and documentation.
+ Compile and interpret test results to determine hearing sensitivity for speech and specific frequency signals; speech perception ability; middle ear function; cochlear function; auditory brainstem function; central auditory function and site of lesion information.
+ Relate auditory function to communication needs of the patient to develop a re/habilitative plan and recommendations which address, as necessary, the need for medical consultation to explore etiology and determine need for medical intervention; the need to explore amplification options and the need for enrollment in an ongoing treatment program.
+ Assesses patient's ability to benefit from amplification and make recommendations regarding amplification needs. Assist family in procuring appropriate amplification and locating ongoing treatment programs/services as needed.
+ Counsel family members concerning the special needs of hearing impaired children to effectively involve parents and other family members in the treatment and management of hearing dysfunction.
+ Monitor and evaluate patient progress and recommend revisions in treatment plans to meet changing needs of patient. Maintain contact with patient's family members and other members of healthcare and re/habilitative team regarding patient's auditory function and progress.
+ Employ conventional, play audiometry and behavioral observation audiometry techniques as well as electrophysiologic tests. Uses electroacoustic instrumentation including audiometers, acoustic immittance and evoked otoacoustic emission systems and electrical response test equipment.
+ Maintain records and progress notes detailing diagnosis, habilitation and effect on patients.
+ Prepare reports of findings, interpretation of test results, and recommendations, reviewed and co-signed by a licensed audiologist.
+ Refer patient for additional testing and treatment according to professional standards of American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), American Academy of Audiology (AAA), hospital policy, and previous experience; participates with other members of the health care/rehabilitation team in the development of rehabilitative programs for patients.
+ Bachelor's degree in related field.
+ Must be in the 4th year of an accredited Doctor of Audiology (AuD) program.
+ Analytical ability to evaluate hearing dysfunction, develop habilitative plans and evaluate progress.
+ Interpersonal skills needed to communicate effectively with patients, family members and staff members.
+ Ability to observe and accurately collect and interpret clinical data.
