UC Health is hiring a PRN Exercise Physiologist for the Internal Med-Cardio Pulmonary Rehab department for the first shift at our West Chester clinic.
The Exercise Physiologist is an individual educated in exercise science who has specific acquired knowledge and clinic skills in exercise testing, exercise prescription, exercise training, and lifestyle management of a group of clients. She/he interacts with other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide continuity of care to clients. The person in this position must be competent in caring for adult and geriatric patients in the clinical population served. The exercise specialist/physiologist identifies individual fitness needs, establishes exercise guidelines for patients and participants, monitors participant use of wellness equipment for safe and proper technique, and leads wellness exercise classes. The exercise specialist/physiologist performs basic fitness assessments within his/her scope of practice and counsels community participants on appropriate exercise programs. The exercise specialist/physiologist demonstrates behaviors reflective of the mission and core values of the Drake Center as well as those specific to required competencies for successful job performance.
Responsibilities
Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
Assists in development and implementation of treatment plan in collaboration with the treatment team. Adheres to department safety standards. Develops appropriate treatment programs to progress towards goals and progresses programs appropriately. Counsels' patients and families regarding assessment results, treatment plans/goals, and carryover strategies.
Provides individualized care for patients and community participants both in phase II and phase III programs. Monitors and observes participants and identifies any inappropriate responses to exercise. Terminates exercise as necessary. Plans and educates participants regarding home exercise programs and use of equipment. Initially assess community participants to assist with development of a safe and appropriate exercise program based on the participants' needs/goals. Prepares and adjusts individual exercise plans on a regular basis. Leads exercises in a clear and easy to follow manner. Demonstrates correct body position and proper use of equipment to prevent injury. Recognizes an emergency situation, notifies appropriate personnel and assists with emergency care accordingly.
Consistently achieves benchmark of 90% compliance with criteria from chart audits. Completes all patient related documentation, including encounter forms/charge sheets, legibly and in a timely manner. Complies with all organizational, department and regulatory standards. Provides daily maintenance to provide a clean and safe environment at all times. Performs record keeping, registration and appropriate billing for patients and community users of the aquatic and wellness department.
Adheres to Organizational, department, and Human Resources initiatives and policies. Accepts at least one student per year according to department standards, needs and demand. Demonstrates appropriate leadership and supervision of students, volunteers and supportive/assistive personnel. Coordinates scheduling of community participants. Assists with record keeping and participant registration. Assists with administrative/secretarial responsibilities as necessary, including filing, typing, mailing, etc. Demonstrates time management skills by completing expected work during regularly scheduled work hours, arriving to meetings on time, completing assigned tasks by deadlines, etc. Attends department meetings and in-services and demonstrates professional behavior. Maintains a clean and safe work environment. Maintains adequate inventory of supplies and uses supplies resourcefully. Demonstrates an awareness of budget goals in terms of revenue and expenses and makes recommendations for cost containment. Promotes a positive work atmosphere.

Uses chain of communication appropriately to exchange information and communicate issues. Collaborates with physicians, nursing, and others as needed to provide the highest quality care to patients and residents. Demonstrates appropriate communication to customers, team members, supervisors, etc. Revises communication style to meet communication needs of current audience and environment.
Completes all annual reviews, annual competencies, and all mandatory requirements to maintain CPR, or any other required certification by due date. Participates in department performance improvement initiatives as assigned and is able to articulate outcomes and improvements. Participates in educational in-services/opportunities to advance knowledge and skills. Timely presentation of materials to associates to share knowledge and communicate current activities of committees. Active participation in mentoring and orientation of fellow associates and students as indicated.

Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiologist Opportunity

Mercy Health Physicians-Youngstown is seeking a board certified or board eligible clinical cardiac electrophysiologist to join our Heart & Vascular Institute. Primary responsibilities include inpatient and outpatient clinical care and procedural competence in diagnostic electrophysiology studies, catheter ablations, and device implantation. Competency in complex ablation, lead extractions, and left atrial appendage closure is not required, but will be looked upon favorably. Candidates are expected to have completed fellowship training in clinical cardiac electrophysiology and be board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
The Mercy Health Physicians Youngstown Heart & Vascular Institute is the largest and highest volume electrophysiology practice in the region, with a total of 15 employed cardiologists including 5 interventional cardiologists and 3 EP specialists. There are 13 advanced practice clinicians supporting delivery of care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The position will be considered 100% electrophysiology, and the call model is 1:4 electrophysiology-only call. A newly built state-of-the-art electrophysiology lab and hybrid operating room, both equipped with 60 Vantage View monitors, have been added to an existing fully functional electrophysiology lab. Both electrophysiology labs are equipped with 3D mapping, with the team currently using Carto Biosense. Clinical research is ongoing and expanding, and our brand-new electrophysiology lab also includes a separate viewing room equipped with 2 viewing screens for education and training purposes.
The Mercy Health Heart & Vascular group also includes 3 board certified cardiothoracic surgeons and 4 board certified vascular surgeons, who collaborate with interventional cardiology and electrophysiology as part of a structural heart team. Electrophysiology and structural heart cases are supported by 3 cardiothoracic anesthesiologists who are board certified in TEE, as well as a team of CRNAs. The service line performs high volumes of cardiac, thoracic, and vascular cases annually. This specialist team is highly integrated and includes a multidisciplinary valve clinic that supports a robust TAVR and MitraClip program, and the electrophysiology group provides the only left atrial appendage closure and lead management programs in the region. The main campus hospital is a level 1 trauma center, is a certified stroke center, is chest pain certified with PCI, and is the only sepsis center of excellence in Ohio.

Utilize a range of principles and methodologies to provide examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, intervention, and outcome assessment for assigned personnel to include but not limited to operational provision of care associated with individual assessments, injury prevention and human performance interventions of musculoskeletal conditions in support of personnel readiness.
Develop, collaborate, and implement a program alongside the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with a focus on holistic and long-term health and physical performance, specifically addressing the unique physical demands of the high-G environment experienced by fighter aircrew.
Ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness and conditioning programs customized to meet individual needs.
Screen for risk factors that would increase the risk of injury/illness. These screening procedures must include flexibility and mobility assessments, muscular strength and endurance assessments, cardiovascular fitness assessments, postural and ergonomic assessment, and body composition assessments.
Utilize manual therapy and modalities for the treatment, rehabilitation, and optimization of Aircrew. Evaluate and treat aircrew with acute or chronic complaints within the scope of practice, including soft tissue mobilization, joint mobilization/manipulation, therapeutic modalities, and therapeutic treatments. Prioritize timely access to care, aiming to provide these services within 48 hours of request, contingent upon the patient's availability for treatment and the severity of the condition.
Implement neck and spine strengthening protocols that are evidence-based and specific to aircrew. These protocols will be based on both subjective and objective measures of spine health; measurements shall include Oswestry Disability Index, SF-36, Neck Disability Index, Sorenson test, and neck isometric strength. These measurements are to be predetermined, research validated, related to the needs of high +Gz aircrew, and consistent with current rehabilitation and performance best practice.
Collaborate with the CSCS to provide each aircrew member seeking prehab/prevention services an initial performance evaluation within one week of the request.
Attend required continuing education to remain licensed per state or national agency requirements at the Contractor's expense.
Complete all unit, Government, and MTF in-processing requirements, to include computer-based trainings as required by the Department of Defense, Air Force, MTF training, on-line Relias health training, Genesis training, peer review, newcomer's orientation, and other job-specific trainings, which may include simulations and other hands-on training opportunities/assessments.
Assist with management of physical conditioning supply inventories. Provide input to organization regarding supply needs and optimal equipment.
Perform administrative duties such as maintaining records of workload. Document patient encounters using mandated Government systems (e.g., ADAPTS, MHS Genesis) within 72 hours in accordance with guidance and direction.
Ensure patient privacy is respected and complies with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements.
Perform work assignments in compliance with instructions, policies, or accepted practices of Defense Health Agency (DHA) and MTF requirements.
Conduct required clinical and non-clinical administrative responsibilities and maintains patient care records IAW DHA.
Monitor access to care and employs electronic systems, software programs, and databases for patient care documentation and administrative responsibilities. Ensure accurate and timely data entry to facilitate program evaluation and reporting.
Facilitate and instruct patients to enhance their general knowledge of sports medicine concepts, injury prevention strategies, self-rehabilitative techniques, and functional movement assessment in order to develop independence of action and allow participation in their own fitness prescriptions. Provide education and resources tailored to the specific needs of fighter aircrew, focusing on strategies to mitigate neck and back pain and improve cockpit ergonomics.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possess a minimum of at least two (2) years of experience as a Licensed Athletic Trainer in collegiate (or higher) professional, or tactical athletics; aerospace industry, test pilot/astronaut or similar man-machine high-performance environment.
Graduated from an Athletic Training Education Program, Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) and Master's degree in Exercise Science, Health Science, Athletic Training, Health Profession or Physical Education-related discipline.
