OTHER DUTIES: · Performs control testing for all on-site lab analyses according to clinic protocols and CLIA standards. · Performs daily, weekly, and monthly autoclave maintenance according to manufacturer's instructions. · Sterilizes all necessary equipment according to CDC guidelines. · Cleans all medical equipment, exam tables, baby and adult scales according to OSHA standards. · Maintains clean, well-stocked exam rooms. · Assists in supply and vaccine ordering. · Prepare and maintain special internal and external reports as requested by Supervisor and/or Department Head. · May be assigned to various project lead roles to advance the development of the department and support ad hoc needs. · Able to work under minimal supervision · Employee will be asked to perform additional duties and take on other responsibilities as dictated by events and circumstances. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Patient/Customer Relations: 1. Assists the Dentist and Dental Hygienist in chair side duties with patients, including seating the patient and providing appropriate instrumentation and materials for the intended treatment. 2. Educates patients on dental disease and preventative home care, including brushing and flossing techniques. 3. Serves as liaison to patients in telephone communications of medical/dental issues. Staff Relations/Team Building: 1. Consults with the dentist and other members of the health care team as necessary. Acts to facilitate communication between the members of the health care team, including clinical and non-clinical staff. 2. Performs other necessary duties as required by the Johnson Health Center and as directed by the Dentist to meet the goal of providing oral health care services. Clinical Duties: 1. Autoclave - maintains water levels daily, loads instruments, runs sterilization cycle; then removes sterilized instruments and redistributes to proper locations. 11. Keeps operatories stocked w/ appropriate materials and instruments, including ordering supplies as needed to maintain office inventory. 12. Cleans operatories and all equipment used according to OSHA standards after each dental procedure. 13. Cleans suction lines and traps in operatories on a weekly basis. 14. Cleans traps in equipment room every other week. 15. Cleans autoclaves and tests sterilization (using Biostrips) monthly. 16. Pulls trash from operatories and other clinic areas twice weekly. 17. Acts as liaison for patient to convey medical and dental information to and from the dentist or hygienist during treatment-related phone conversations, as well as during clinic visits. 18. Assists with the school dental program in all areas of preparation and implementation. 19. Assists at front desk, when available, to answer phones, schedule appointments, and receive payment for services. 20. Physical attendance is an essential element of the job and necessary to perform the essential functions of the Dental Assistant position. Administrative Duties: 1. Performs limited administrative functions involving treatment notes and charting for patient dental records and health histories. 2. Assists in performing front office procedures in the absence of the Front Office Specialist including checking in patients, receiving payments and scheduling appointments. 3.
