Mission of the Position:
The Expert, Target Costing is responsible for developing the target cost for specific products and analyze Customer or Product Management Targets. In this role he/she defines realistic "allowable" costs on product / sub-system (level). He/she works closely with the related Product Manager and Product Line Manager to follow mid- and long-term planning of the quote activities to achieve competitiveness of the group.
Breakdown of target price (either from Product Manager or from Sales) into assignable categories
based on best practices & competitive intelligence.
Enable quicker and more efficient quote activities through competitive intelligence on costs.
Provide the quoting team with clear assumptions on what drives the target cost and categories with the intention to increase the ability to take calculated risks and reduce the non-value add firm design and quoting activities before GPMS gate 0.
Ensure a design-to-cost (DtC) mindset.
Key Responsibilities:
TRANSPARENT MARKET INFORMATION
* Collaborate with Product Management, Product Engineering, and Sales to collect customer and competitive feedback on cost for products, sub-systems, and sub system functions.
* Organize joined reviews on customer and competitive feedback
BENCHMARKING OF PRODUCT FUNCTIONS and SUBSYSTEMS
* Define realistic "allowable" part and investment costs on product and sub-system level, based on best practices & competitive intelligence.
* Manage and maintain "Best practice cost" database based on above responsibility
and collaborate with partner functions.
* Partner with cost engineers to derive the correct part price targets from the subsystem models
and support the creation of cost models with benchmark and other analysis.
WORLD CLASS DESIGN
* Support VAVE / cost down workshops in quoting phase.
* Drive design to cost and design to value activities.
* Support development / improvement of (standard) product architecture in collaboration
with product line manager.
* Support DFM / DFA activities and ensure that input from advanced manufacturing engineering (AME) and manufacturing strategy is included in best cost architecture.
WORLD CLASS MANUFACTURING
* Apply best practice knowledge on manufacturing processes/technologies.
* Work closely with AME to ensure optimized capital and lean manufacturing.
* Define the need for new manufacturing technologies and drive resolution through
partnership with innovation and AME.
TOOLS and METHODS
* Challenge and guide the serial quotation teams by target setting at quote kickoff stage
with clear information on assumptions.
* Continuous improvement of the target costing methods / tools.

Requirements and Qualifications:
* Must possess a combined 6 years of relevant experience along with a verifiable record of results in cost down disciplines within the automotive industry.
* Strong technical background that may include knowledge of powertrain systems & components (including 4WD/AWD, transmissions, electrification).
* Experience in manufacturing engineering or plant operations environment is preferred.
* Experience working across regions and levels in the organization.
* Experience in the product design process related to its impact on product costs.
