Our Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Senior Civil/StructuralEngineer for our Civil and Structural Engineering Practice in our Menlo Park, CA office. In this role, you will work as part of a team, perform tasks and execute projects related primarily to evaluation of building component and material failures, with particular emphasis on concrete and other cement-based materials. Applicant will have the opportunity to work on a variety of diverse and interesting civil engineering projects that will challenge their problem-solving skills. Applicant will also have the opportunity to work and collaborate on projects with Exponent professionals practicing in the other 90+ technical disciplines within the company; some of these projects are outside of the traditional civil engineering area.

Compensation
Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and have an opportunity to plan for future success and career growth. Exponent's total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent. At the Associate and Senior Associate level, total compensation includes base salary, bi-weekly bonuses for high-intensity efforts, annual bonus and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.
The base salary range for this position is dependent on experience and capabilities which will be assessed during the interview process.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Undertaking design and planning activities on maritime projects - container terminals, mining/bulk, oil/gas, marinas, ports and harbors, coastal defense and development schemes.
Maritime design and planning, including maritime codes/standards such as USACE, PIANC, OCIMF.
Structural design for wharves, piles, sheet piles, dolphins, across the United States.
Independently prepare engineering related calculations and develop structural technical specifications, plans, and details.
Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
Identifies discrepancies in results.
Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.
Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.
Occasional short to medium term site visits may also become necessary depending on project requirements.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:

Provide technical consultation and design review for new construction, repairs, and renovations of Navy and Marine Corps facilities.
Conduct field investigations, prepare engineering analyses, and evaluate design solutions to ensure compliance with DoD and NAVFAC standards.
Coordinate with structural, mechanical, electrical, and architectural disciplines to ensure integrated design solutions.
Review design submittals, cost estimates, and contract documents for technical accuracy and constructability.
Support project planning, budgeting, and scheduling to ensure designs meet scope, safety, and performance requirements.
Participate in design and coordination meetings and provide input on site and utility design.
Requirements
U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a NACI/CAC is required
Demonstrated ability to prepare and review AutoCAD plans, engineering calculations, and technical specifications.
Knowledge of NAVFAC and DoD design criteria, UFC standards, and civil engineering codes and practices.
Proficiency in civil site design software and hydraulic analysis tools.
Strong communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams.
Familiarity with Federal project delivery methods and NAVFAC design-build standards.
Experience & Education
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program (required); master's degree preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of professional civil design experience, including at least 1 year supporting Federal or DoD projects.
Experience developing plans and specifications for site development, utilities, drainage, or airfield/waterfront infrastructure.
Pavement experience is highly preferred.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand/walk/climb/kneel/crouch and remain in a stationary position/sit at least 60% of the time.
Ability to operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.
Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms.
Capable of lifting up to 10 lbs.
Ability to see details of objects that are less than a few feet away.
Ability to understand the speech of another person, speak clearly so listeners can understand, and talk or hear both in person and by telephone.

We are currently seeking a Civil/StructuralEngineer for our Civil & Structural Engineering Practice in Irvine, CA. In this role, you will work as part of a team to conduct analytical and computer problem-solving, perform experimental field investigations and diagnostic surveys, and maintain client relations. Assignments will require the ability to gather information from and convey technical conclusions to individuals in engineering, business, and industry.
You will be responsible for
Inspection, analysis and determination of root causes of structural/building envelope performance failures

You will have the following skills and qualifications

Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and have an opportunity to plan for future success and career growth. Exponent's total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent. At the Associate and Senior Associate level, total compensation includes base salary, bi-weekly bonuses for high-intensity efforts, annual bonus and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.
The base salary range for this position is dependent on experience and capabilities which will be assessed during the interview process.
