In 1979, Jim Lunceford founded and opened the first location in the Birmingham, AL area.
In March 1996, the pair acquired the franchise corporation from Lunceford, then launched an aggressive franchise expansion program in Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee and Georgia.
By 1996, franchise owners Ricky Brooks and Joe Watson were operating 14 locations.
Brooks and Watson saw great promise in the future of the chain, and purchased the company from Jim in 1996.
In 1998, Brooks and Watson purchased a 28-store chain out of Atlanta, GA – the Tune-Up Clinic.
The 100th location was opened October 2, 2000 in Foley, AL!
In 2013, Express Oil acquired Tire Engineers, rebranding to Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers, and continued growth through acquiring additional tire brands to include Trax Tires, Savannah Tire, Griffin Brothers, Upton Tire, and more.
In 2018, Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers merged with Mavis Discount Tire to form one of the largest automotive maintenance providers in the United States.
The 300th location launched July 2, 2021 in Baton Rouge, LA!
