The Environmental Air Advisor will work within the Environmental Department, SSH&E Division in Joliet, IL. The Environmental Air Advisor supports the site with analysis of air regulations, applicability determinations, maintaining existing regulatory compliance systems and air

permit consultation. The Air Advisor may review physical and operational changes, including air permit requirements. Responsible for driving SSHE Functional Excellence by communicating values, displaying behaviors, and reinforcing standards consistent with OIMS and LPS. The position will keep up-to-date with regulations and support ExxonMobil Advocacy staff to help drive reasonable rulemaking and interpretations.
Job Role Responsibilities

* Provide compliance support to include analysis of air regulations, applicability determinations and air permit consultation.
* Must be knowledgeable in areas of the CAA, NSPS, NESHAPS, and MACT standards.
* Review physical and operational changes using systematic methods or Best Practices to ensure compliance with air regulations, including air permit requirements.
* Understanding of how Title V permitting and compliance affect the supported site.
* Evaluate, manage, and interpret data, make recommendations, and prepare written and verbal reports as needed.
* Complete air permitting applications and knowledgeable of state permitting rules.
* Develop Compliance Plans to ensure compliance with new or revised regulations and permits.
* Develop improved systems to drive both compliance and efficiencies.
* Support ExxonMobil Advocacy staff on regulatory issues to help drive reasonable rulemaking and regulatory interpretations.
* Act as a liaison between state and federal agencies by participating in agency inspections and providing information requested
* Performs periodic field walks, informal audits, and field verifications to validate current performance of assigned units.
* Participate in internal and external regulatory assessments.
* Manage the Environmental "On-Call" phone
* Provide backup coverage for the Environmental Title V Advisor and Environmental Group Leader

Job Requirements

* Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or equivalent work experience
* Proven ability to take initiative, manage / prioritize deadlines and achieve results
* Knowledge of Federal and State environmental regulations
* Significant prior experience in Environmental Air Permitting and Compliance
* Knowledgeable in the following areas: Clean Air Act, NSR/PSD Permitting, Title V, MACT I and II, NSPS, NESHAPS, and NAAQS

Job Role Responsibilities

ExxonMobil Environmental Scientists evaluate the hazards and risks of chemical and petroleum products and operations. Our scientists are expected to proactively engage in the scientific community and advance methodologies needed to evaluate the next generation of ExxonMobil products, processes and regulatory needs. This position requires effective application of scientific skills in a fast paced business environment, as well as the capacity and initiative to learn contemporary risk assessment approaches and related disciplines. Candidates must be able to work independently and interact well with individuals with diverse backgrounds and scientific disciplines to achieve worldwide business objectives, ensuring compliance with corporate policies and international health and environmental regulations. Typical activities include environmental risk assessment of products and operations, review and critical analysis of literature data, design and monitoring of internal and external research programs, interaction with governmental / regulatory agencies, and participation in professional organizations and trade associations. EMBSI is committed to transparent communication of environmental health information and encourages presentation at technical conferences and publication in peer reviewed research journals. Additionally, EMBSI supports continuous learning to refresh knowledge of environmental science methods and identification of novel applications. This position requires extensive consultation and technical support to ExxonMobil affiliates worldwide and will require some domestic and international travel.

Job Requirements

* A Ph.D. in an Environmental Science-related field is required for the position
* Must have broad training in environmental chemistry, fate and exposure assessment, and/or ecotoxicology
* The candidate should be results driven with excellent leadership skills and a passion for advancing the discipline of Environmental Science
* Research experience into the fate of petroleum hydrocarbons or similar substances in field and laboratory settings is preferred
* A strong foundation in Environmental Chemistry (theory and practice) and environmental chemistry techniques, including but not limited to biomimetic extraction and two-dimensional gas chromatography is a priority
* Application of environmental chemistry to development and application of computational tools (e.g., QSAR and environmental fate modeling) is desired
* Responsible for developing and overseeing testing and research programs in both EMBSI's own environmental fate and effects laboratory and with external partners
* Previous experience with legislative and regulatory processes and/or work specifically relevant to petroleum or chemical products is especially helpful
