The Patient Services Representative Team Leader has successfully completed the Ophthalmology Home Study course and the LMS Customer Service program and has passed the EANM Insurance Test. Assures smooth patient flow in reception areas and assist patients with registration process and appointment scheduling; provides support services to physicians and staff to facilitate professional patient care and service. Additionally, performs as a role model in training and orienting employees in their staff positions.
Job Duties May Include:
Assists new patients with the completion of registration documents
Checks for valid and current referrals when needed; verifies co-pay and/or referral information for patients
Verifies demographic and insurance information for returning patients
Checks patient out after doctor's exam, collecting appropriate payments, posting and batching payments
Schedules patient appointments, returns appointments or arranges for a recall for patient's appointment

Accepts responsibility for timely arrival and readiness for work at assigned station
Consistently exhibits behaviors which create a high level of patient and employee satisfaction, which maintains the credibility, integrity and positive image which in turn supports the mission, goals and operations of Eye Associates and contributes to continuous performance improvement.
Provides templating function
Performs Coding Corrections and provides Coding support to the clinic.
The annual completion of assigned Learning Management System (LMS) courses is mandatory. Any individual who has not completed their assigned training prior to November 30th of each year may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Requirements/Skills:
Job requires high school education or equivalent; completion of a general accounting course; experience in Microsoft Office skills is preferred; experience and/or training in bookkeeping required; medical terminology and medical office experience preferred; must demonstrate the ability to work with the public in a pleasant and professional manner. Must have effective verbal and written communication skills. Must have passed the Ophthalmology Home Study course and the LMS Customer Service program, and must have passed the EANM Insurance Test. The Ophthalmic Photographer performs diagnostic testing associated with specialized instruments to assist physicians in the treatment and diagnosis of various types of ocular etiology. Photographic technique, detailed documentation, and excellent patient care are expected to be performed at a higher-than-average level. Work requires considerable knowledge of standard photographic techniques, equipment, processes, and materials. Assists in archiving patient documents, and maintenance of instruments. Possesses capabilities to manage high volume patient workload, while maintaining accuracy of diagnostic testing and charting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Imaging photographic procedures include: Fluorescein Dye Injections/Indocyanine Green Dye Injections, Fundus photography, Optical Coherence Tonometry (OCT), Various visual field-test, Topography, Various A-Scans and B-scans, Pachymetry, Lensometry, Performs slit lamp photography, Ocular Coherence Biometry (OCB), Ultrasound Biomicroscopy (UBM), Pentacam Corneal Scanning/Keratograph, Confocal microscopy,and Color Vision Testing
If applicable must acquire proficient venipuncture skill and knowledge of associated side effects, and risks of administered dyes
Administers dilation/numbing drops when appropriate
Correctly codes/submits charges when necessary
Accurately documents interpretation templates and tasks to correct person/group
Demonstrates knowledge of navigating and making changes through AXIS, and submit coding corrections through EMR systems
Maintains a clean and sanitary work space before and after testing
Reviews chart for test information and correct eye to be tested
Demonstrates knowledge of how to perform machine maintenance and troubleshoot
Travels to a variety of EANM Clinic locations depending upon physician and staffing needs
Produces prints and discs using computer system and archives files
Skills/Qualifications:
Job requires high school diploma (or equivalent).
Three or more years' experience of ophthalmic photographic technique is preferred.
Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), and is certified as either a Certified Retinal Angiographer (CRA), CDOS (Certified Diagnostic Ophthalmic Sonographer), ROUB (Registered Ophthalmic Ultrasound Biometrist), and or Optical Coherence Tomographer-Certified (OCT-C) is preferred. Encouraged to obtain an additional certification within 12 months of hire.
Certified phlebotomy technician certificate is preferred.

The Albuquerque Ambulatory Eye Surgery Center is a joint venture out-patient ophthalmology surgery center designed to provide quality care to the community.
The Sterile Processing Technician performs duties of decontamination, preparation, assembly, high level disinfection, sterilization of surgical instruments and medical equipment for the AAESC, utilizing infection control and safety practices during all phases of the process. Under direct and indirect supervision follows departmental policies and procedures. Inventories, restocks and distributes instruments to the operating rooms.
Job Duties May Include
:
Cleans, decontaminates, disinfects and sterilizes surgical instruments, trays and reusable medical devices. Inspection, maintenance, assembly and sterilization of surgical instruments.
Handling, storage and transportation of surgical instruments to the operating room.
Monitor and maintain standards of disinfection and sterilization as recommended by prevailing regulatory and professional organization recommendations or guidelines.
Prioritize tasks as directed by the supervisor or as needed to support patient care for the surgery center.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in accordance with standards and policies.
Operates all required equipment and machinery accurately and safely according to parameters of sterilization in accordance with The Department of Health, CMS, OSHA, CDC, AAMI, and AORN standards.
Maintains appropriate records, and monitors quality control and infection control standards, provides asset management and support of surgical instruments and trays belonging to or consigned to the facility.
Accurately handles and cares for instruments appropriately, including appropriate selection of cleaning agents, lubricants, examination for function, identification and assembly and preparation for sterilization.
Responsible for reporting damaged or malfunctioning equipment to the Manager and follows process for replacement.
Correctly peel-packs supplies and instruments, wraps instruments for sterilization, inspects each instrument for use, function, completeness and cleanliness.
Coordinates with Materials Department to ensure facility sets are stocked to PAR levels.
Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory and continuing education and skills competency. Supports department - based goals which contribute to the success of the organization. Communicates with operating room staff to provide required instruments.
Maintains records for QA and sterilization.
Employees are expected to comply with all regulatory requirements, including CMS standards.
Is familiar with organization, department and job specific Environment of Care areas, including Life Safety, Hazardous Materials Communications, Emergency Preparedness, Infection Control and Medical Equipment Failure.
Adheres to Standard Precautions as appropriate, which may include: use of protective barriers, as appropriate (e.g., gloves, masks, gowns, pocket masks, and/or safety glasses); handling and disposing of infectious waste appropriately; and hand washing as appropriate.
Maintains flexibility to rotate shifts and adjust hours as needed. Maintains a work record of regular attendance, timely arrivals and departures.
Knows fire and safety procedures for work area.
Maintains professional appearance appropriate to position and function. Wears identification badge while on duty.
Participates in cost effective delivery of care.
Skills/Qualifications:
High school or equivalent.
One-year experience in sterile processing environment, hospital or clinic (medical or veterinary) preferred. Previous experience with handling of sterile supplies preferred.
National certification for sterile processing preferred.
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required (training provided and paid for by company).

Job Status: Full-Time (4-10hr shifts)
Job Duties of an Operating Room Surgical Technician May Include:
Demonstrates general knowledge in the ophthalmology specialty and assists in planning and preparing the operating room for the surgical procedure.
Evaluate and coordinate activities during surgical procedures by anticipating surgeons' needs and necessary supplies.
Review preference cards, gathers instruments, supplies and equipment, and assists with room turnover.
Assists the surgeon with various types of surgical procedures by maintaining current knowledge of various procedures and supplies.
Adhere to proper surgical procedures of aseptic technique and safety in the use of instruments and equipment, while assuring the surgical team also adheres to the principles of sterile techniques.
Maintains an accurate count of sponges, needles, and instruments (when appropriate) and signs documentation.
Decontaminates instruments and autoclaves instrument trays as required.
Maintains current knowledge of anatomy and physiology and identifies medications and solutions used intraoperatively by labeling them appropriately.
Assures that specimens are correctly handled and routed to the proper source and initials documentation.
Keeps circulating nurse informed and abreast of situations changing in the procedure.
Removes instruments and supplies for OR and the end of the case. Appropriately disposes of drapes and sharps.
Ensures that OR's are stocked and that excess sterile items or equipment are removed and appropriately stored
Assists in orientation of new staff and serves as a resource person and clinical expert.
Complies with sterilization, infection, safety, and AAESC policies. Participates in the AAESC Quality program and monitoring.
Coordinates and maintains supplies. Cleans and stores equipment. Processes broken equipment as directed.

Skills/ Requirements for an OR Surgical Tech:
High school plus specialization, short-term training in the operating room setting. Prefer certification in scrubbing.

Typing skills of at least 35 words per minute are desirable.
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required (training provided and paid for by company).

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Ophthalmic Technician II (COA)/Trainer provides technical support to physicians for patient evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care for all northern NM clinics. This role gathers patient information through questioning, observation, and testing. The technician facilitates patient exams and optimizes the physician's time by preparing and following up on care. The position also includes training and evaluating technical staff, particularly new technician trainees, overseeing Electronic Health Record (EHR) training, and supporting implementation of updates within the system. The technician acts as a key resource in technician education, skill assessment, and workflow efficiency.
This is a safety-sensitive position under the Lynn and Erin Compassionate Use Act (SB 406).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare and document patient medical records, history, medications, and relevant details.
Conduct visual acuity tests, pupillary measurements, intraocular pressure checks, and muscle motility assessments.
Perform slit lamp exams, refractions, confrontation visual fields, and retinoscopy.
Administer dilating drops, prepare instruments for minor in-office procedures, and maintain exam room supplies.
Assist physicians by authorizing medication refills, handling technician calls, and conducting special tests (e.g., PAM, Topo's, keratometry, formal visual fields, and Tear Lab).
Stay current with changes in Electronic Health Records (EHR) workflows and provide training on system updates.
Oversee training and evaluation of new and existing technicians, identify skill gaps, and provide ongoing education.
Monitor and maintain technician certification records and ensure timely renewals.
Participate in surgery-related tasks (if applicable), such as preparing the operating room, assisting in procedures, and ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques.
Conduct retina-specific duties if applicable, including reviewing procedure charts, preparing sterile instruments, assisting with injections, and managing inventory.
Perform diagnostic testing and manage documentation of results.
Support technical preceptors and work collaboratively with clinic management and the Training Department to enhance training and performance evaluation.
Assist with organizational initiatives and training workshops.
Develop a unique program for new NNM technician trainees that will prepare them to meet EANM's stated technician trainee competency expectations.
Ensure that all appropriate training materials are purchased and made available to trainees.
Personally conduct theoretical and hands-on practical training of all new technician trainees in a consistent and measurable manner.
Travel required bi-weekly for new hire week in Albuquerque.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma (or equivalent) required.
Certification: Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) required. Must obtain a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification at the next earliest testing date.
Competency: Must demonstrate proficiency in COA-level skills per HR Policy #2.29.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Computer Proficiency: Strong skills preferred, with typing ability of at least 35 words per minute

Job Duties of an Operating Room Surgical Technician May Include:
Demonstrates general knowledge in the ophthalmology specialty and assists in planning and preparing the operating room for the surgical procedure.
Evaluate and coordinate activities during surgical procedures by anticipating surgeons' needs and necessary supplies.
Review preference cards, gathers instruments, supplies and equipment, and assists with room turnover.
Assists the surgeon with various types of surgical procedures by maintaining current knowledge of various procedures and supplies.
Adhere to proper surgical procedures of aseptic technique and safety in the use of instruments and equipment, while assuring the surgical team also adheres to the principles of sterile techniques.
Maintains an accurate count of sponges, needles, and instruments (when appropriate) and signs documentation.
Decontaminates instruments and autoclaves instrument trays as required.
Maintains current knowledge of anatomy and physiology and identifies medications and solutions used intraoperatively by labeling them appropriately.
Assures that specimens are correctly handled and routed to the proper source and initials documentation.
Keeps circulating nurse informed and abreast of situations changing in the procedure.
Removes instruments and supplies for OR and the end of the case. Appropriately disposes of drapes and sharps.
Ensures that OR's are stocked and that excess sterile items or equipment are removed and appropriately stored
Assists in orientation of new staff and serves as a resource person and clinical expert.
Complies with sterilization, infection, safety, and AAESC policies. Participates in the AAESC Quality program and monitoring.
Coordinates and maintains supplies. Cleans and stores equipment. Processes broken equipment as directed.
The annual completion of assigned Learning Management System (LMS) courses is mandatory. Any individual who has not completed their assigned training prior to November 30th of each year may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Responsible for utilizing the nursing process to provide direct patient care to surgical patients during their stay in the Surgery Center. Communicates and prioritizes efficiently and effectively.
Demonstrates proficiency in recovering patients having general, MAC, local, regional block, and topical anesthesia, with consideration regarding age, health history, and disease processes. (PACU area).

The Patient Services Representative Team Leader has successfully completed the Ophthalmology Home Study course and the LMS Customer Service program and has passed the EANM Insurance Test. The Albuquerque Ambulatory Eye Surgery Center is a joint venture out-patient ophthalmology surgery center designed to provide quality care to the community.
The Sterile Processing Technician performs duties of decontamination, preparation, assembly, high level disinfection, sterilization of surgical instruments and medical equipment for the AAESC, utilizing infection control and safety practices during all phases of the process. Under direct and indirect supervision follows departmental policies and procedures. Inventories, restocks and distributes instruments to the operating rooms.
Job Duties May Include:
Cleans, decontaminates, disinfects and sterilizes surgical instruments, trays and reusable medical devices. Inspection, maintenance, assembly and sterilization of surgical instruments.
Handling, storage and transportation of surgical instruments to the operating room.
Monitor and maintain standards of disinfection and sterilization as recommended by prevailing regulatory and professional organization recommendations or guidelines.
Prioritize tasks as directed by the supervisor or as needed to support patient care for the surgery center.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in accordance with standards and policies.
Operates all required equipment and machinery accurately and safely according to parameters of sterilization in accordance with The Department of Health, CMS, OSHA, CDC, AAMI, and AORN standards.
Maintains appropriate records, and monitors quality control and infection control standards, provides asset management and support of surgical instruments and trays belonging to or consigned to the facility.
Accurately handles and cares for instruments appropriately, including appropriate selection of cleaning agents, lubricants, examination for function, identification and assembly and preparation for sterilization.
Responsible for reporting damaged or malfunctioning equipment to the Manager and follows process for replacement.
Correctly peel-packs supplies and instruments, wraps instruments for sterilization, inspects each instrument for use, function, completeness and cleanliness.
Coordinates with Materials Department to ensure facility sets are stocked to PAR levels.
Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory and continuing education and skills competency. Supports department - based goals which contribute to the success of the organization. Communicates with operating room staff to provide required instruments.
Maintains records for QA and sterilization.
Employees are expected to comply with all regulatory requirements, including CMS standards.
Is familiar with organization, department and job specific Environment of Care areas, including Life Safety, Hazardous Materials Communications, Emergency Preparedness, Infection Control and Medical Equipment Failure.
Adheres to Standard Precautions as appropriate, which may include: use of protective barriers, as appropriate (e.g., gloves, masks, gowns, pocket masks, and/or safety glasses); handling and disposing of infectious waste appropriately; and hand washing as appropriate.
Maintains flexibility to rotate shifts and adjust hours as needed. Maintains a work record of regular attendance, timely arrivals and departures.
Knows fire and safety procedures for work area.
Maintains professional appearance appropriate to position and function. Wears identification badge while on duty.
Participates in cost effective delivery of care.
Skills/Qualifications:
High school or equivalent.
One-year experience in sterile processing environment, hospital or clinic (medical or veterinary) preferred. Previous experience with handling of sterile supplies preferred.
National certification for sterile processing preferred.
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required (training provided and paid for by company).
Working Environment and Physical Requirements: Physical working environment may include, but not limited to, any of the following hazards: high pressure steam, chemical, electrical, mechanical, bio-waste, stress, back strain, body fluids, etc. Environmental conditions may include, but not be limited to, variations in temperature, noise, odors, multi-stimuli, etc. Pressure from high volume census to meet deadlines to obtain adequate instrumentation from vendors. Extensive people contact and interruptions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to constantly stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to stoop, crouch and twist. The employee is occasionally required to kneel, squat and sit. The employee must be able to consistently support, push, pull and/or lift up to 25 pounds. Functional physical demands include manual dexterity and fine motor skills and reaching. The following senses will be needed for essential duties of the job: speech, vision, hearing, smell and touch. Ability to lift trays of instruments, walking, and standing.

What You'll Do:
