The Position
The External Manufacturing Organization (CDMO), in conjunction with Internal Manufacturing Network, runs the development and manufacturing of starting materials, intermediates, drug substance, drug product, devices, delivery systems and packaging of synthetic and biological products at external partners in Europe, North America and in ROW or in an out-licensing set up.
The Site Manager External Manufacturing acts as the primary contact and relationship manager to specified partner(s)/site(s)) for the entire relationship. The core business is to handle multiple partners with low/medium/high complexity within one or cross material groups (DS/DP/FINP/Device)/cross chapters/cross partner sites and multiple and/or special technologies depend on experience. The Site Manager External Manufacturing will on request act as mentor for managing partners. Additionally, she/he manages multiple simple/complex Tech transfers (project management) OR simple/complex multiple cross PTSX/PTS projects also over longer periods if necessary or Lead/Support Due diligence/Sourcing projects as required and manages relationships beyond PTS/PT. He/she could also lead complex E2E squads. In case of development focus the Site Manager External Manufacturing handles multiple low/medium/high complexity CMC projects across technologies (SM and LM)/Life Cycle (Development to commercial) depending on experience. She/he acts as the primary contact and relationship manager to specified partner(s/site(s)) for a specific molecule. Furthermore she/he leads or participates in cross PTSX/PTS projects OR Lead/Support DD/Sourcing projects as required.
The Opportunity:
You act as the primary lead and relationship manager for CDMOs throughout the entire product Lifecycle, from initial selection and implementation to decommissioning. Furthermore:
* Cross-Functional Leadership: Leads international governance teams (JMT, JPT, JSC) across diverse functions such as Quality, MSAT, Legal, and Procurement to ensure organizational alignment.
* Supply Chain Accountability: Ensures the seamless execution of development, preclinical, clinical, and commercial supply, including leading product transfers and launches.
* Operational Oversight: Manages routine production, QC activities, and partner performance to ensure high-quality manufacturing solutions and patient access.
* Compliance & Risk Mitigation: Enforces strict adherence to GMP, Quality, and SHE standards while conducting regular risk reviews to proactively address potential supply issues.
* Financial Stewardship: Utilizes business acumen and COGs (Cost of Goods) expertise to manage budgets, partner with procurement on negotiations, and drive cost-reduction initiatives.
* Strategic & Agile Execution: Aligns partner activities with Roche's global manufacturing strategy while maintaining the agility to work across different squads and matrix teams as needed.

**Who You Are**

The Opportunity
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:
* Project Leadership & Strategy: Provide executive leadership and strategic direction for all phases of a mega-project. Make critical decisions regarding project execution strategy, risk management, and major contract awards to ensure business objectives are met.
* Executive Stakeholder Management: Serve as the primary executive liaison to CD leadership, Genentech executives and other key stakeholders. Translate complex business needs into a defined project scope and ensure continuous alignment on project goals and progress.
* Financial Stewardship: Assume full responsibility for the financial performance of the project, including the management of a budget up to $500M. Responsible for all project controls functions, including cost engineering, scheduling, and risk analysis, and provide transparent financial reporting to executive leadership.
* Team Development & Leadership: This role will hire, develop, and lead a large, integrated project team composed of senior project managers, engineers, and functional leads. The leader is responsible for fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence by providing direction and coaching on how best to execute the work, helping to resolve escalated issues, and guiding senior staff in their career development.
* Supplier & Contract Management: Lead the selection and strategic management of construction managers, general contractors and other key suppliers capable of executing a project of this scale. Personally manage the relationships with the senior leadership of these partner firms to ensure performance and alignment.
* Safety, Quality, and Compliance: Champion a world-class safety culture for the entire project. Ensure the project adheres to all Genentech engineering standards and regulatory compliance from design through final validation.
* Organizational Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives not only for the project but also to advance the capital project delivery capabilities within the broader CVP and CD organization.
* Resource Management: Identify upcoming project starts, manage the resourcing of their team, and provide project assignments to their project managers.
* Customer Relationship Management: This role is the direct interface between CD and the key representative(s) of major Genentech functional groups. This role is highly engaged with the customer in understanding their business needs, and works to translate those needs into individual projects.
Who you are
REQUIREMENTS:
* Education: Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Quantity Surveying or a related field. An advanced degree (e.g., MS, MBA) is highly preferred.
* Experience: 10+ years experience in architecture, engineering and/or construction project management.
* Preferably, have at least 5 years in a leadership role successfully delivering complex capital projects valued in excess of $100M.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
* Executive Presence: Demonstrated ability to communicate, present, and influence effectively at the most senior levels of an organization.
* Leadership: Proven experience leading large, diverse teams of senior professionals and managing ambiguous business situations with sound judgment.
* Technical Acumen: Knowledge of all phases of project delivery, from front-end design and engineering to construction, commissioning, and qualification.
* Financial & Contractual Acumen: Expertise in project finance, multi-hundred-million-dollar contract negotiation, and sophisticated project controls.
* Relationship Building: Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal executive clients, external partners, and cross-functional teams.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $169,600 - $315,000 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. **The Position**
**The opportunity:**
We are seeking a highly motivated summer intern to support the development of algorithms for enzyme optimization within Roche Diagnostics. You will work in a hybrid setting with a multidisciplinary team of computational scientists, data scientists, and protein engineers to design, implement, and evaluate methods that improve enzyme performance for diagnostic applications.
This role is ideal for a student who enjoys working at the intersection of advanced optimization techniques, protein language models (PLMs), and molecular biology/protein engineering.
+ Develop and prototype computational methods for enzyme optimization (e.g., sequence design, mutational scanning, in silico screening).
+ Apply, fine-tune, and interpret protein language models (PLMs) to analyze and generate protein sequences.
+ Design and implement optimization techniques (e.g., Bayesian optimization, evolutionary strategies, genetic algorithms, gradient-based or heuristic methods) to guide sequence selection and experimental design.
+ Analyze sequence-function datasets from past and ongoing experiments; perform data preprocessing, feature engineering, and statistical analysis.
+ Collaborate with Roche Diagnostics team members to translate biological questions into well-defined computational problems and optimization objectives.
+ Document code, analyses, and models in a reproducible manner (e.g., Git, notebooks, internal reports).
+ Present progress and findings to the team through brief presentations and written summaries.
**Who you are:**
+ Currently pursuing a Master's, or PhD in a relevant field (e.g., Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Data Science, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, or related).
+ Strong programming skills in Python and experience with scientific/ML libraries (e.g., NumPy, pandas, PyTorch/TensorFlow, scikit-learn, JAX).
+ Good understanding of optimization techniques, such as Bayesian optimization, genetic algorithms/evolutionary strategies, reinforcement learning for black-box optimization, or related methods.
+ Good understanding of protein language models (PLMs):Experience using or studying models such as ESM, ProteinMPNN, ProtTrans, or similar sequence-based representation methods.Familiarity with sequence embeddings, model fine-tuning, or downstream tasks (e.g., fitness prediction, stability/activity prediction).
+ Foundational knowledge of molecular biology and protein engineering, including concepts like mutagenesis, enzyme activity, stability, and structure-function relationships.
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work autonomously between meetings in a hybrid environment.
+ Good communication skills and willingness to collaborate with cross-functional, international teams.
+ Coursework or research experience in molecular modeling and computational structural biology.
+ Familiarity with methods for molecular docking or protein-protein/protein-ligand interaction modeling.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Prior experience with protein engineering projects, directed evolution, or sequence-function prediction models.
+ Experience working with large biological sequence datasets and high-throughput screening or assay data.
+ Familiarity with cloud computing environments (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and/or GPU-accelerated training and inference.

**Who You Are**
