Facets is a non-profit national media arts organization that transforms lives through the power of world, classic, and independent film. It curates, presents, and engages others in exploring the art of film. Its Videotheque maintains an unparalleled movie rental library of 65,000 titles, available to rent in person or by online nationwide mail-order, and its Cinematheque presents daily screenings of independent films, international film festival award-winners, and Chicago premieres, many of which would otherwise not be screened in Chicago. Facets Film Dialogues connect audiences to filmmakers and other individuals behind the films. Facets' DVD label restores and distributes independent, foreign, and forgotten movies that would otherwise not be available on DVD in the U.S., while its Film School and Summer Film Institute present opportunities for adults to develop and deepen their film knowledge through lectures and classes presented by film teachers and scholars. Its Children + Youth produce the annual Chicago International Children's Film Festival and offer year-round media education programs. Facets' Kids app acquires the films from past festivals so children can have smart international films. Facets serves audiences of over 300,000 each year. Substantive numbers participate at reduced or no cost, with targeted outreach by Facets to economically disadvantaged or underserved areas. It is supported by earned revenue, memberships, contributions, and by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Illinois Arts Council, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Chicago Community Trust, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and other foundations, corporations, and individuals.
