Lecturer Pool - Teaching Credentials
The Teaching Credentials Branch believes it is critical that educators are prepared within an anti-racist framework and prepared to teach with an understanding of the communities within which they teach. The branch is committed to advancing the campus-wide commitment to antiracism and inclusion. We prepare future elementary, secondary, and special education teachers. As an anchor institution within the diverse Sacramento region, we prepare teachers and leaders to be agents of change, committed to social justice, equity, and inclusion in culturally and linguistically diverse schools and communities.
We seek part-time lecturers to serve as PK-3 ECE Instruction Specialist, Multiple Subject, Single Subject and/or Special Education university supervisors in area PK-12 schools. This work involves traveling to local schools to observe candidate instruction and mentor candidates; evaluating candidate progress towards meeting California Teaching Performance Expectations; and attending monthly meetings with other supervisory and instructional faculty. *For fully online programs, virtual observations are allowed.
We also seek part-time lecturers to serve as instructional faculty in our PK-3 and our Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) programs. Duties of a part-time lecturer include instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.
Part-time lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires from the pool of applicants are made when there are instructional needs to fill coursework offered by an academic department based on changing enrollment patterns, changes to tenure-track faculty assignments, and other factors that cannot be addressed with our existing faculty. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, but occasionally academic year initial appointments are made. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance. Often appointments are made just prior to the start of the semester.
Rank and Salary
Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department.
Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677
Lecturer B: $6,221 ‐ $13,224
Lecturer C: $6,825 ‐ $14,523
Lecturer D: $8,593 ‐ $15,211
The salary ranges indicated are based on a "full‐time rate" (15 weighted teaching units [WTUs]). A semester's worth of compensation is made up of six (6) payments of the given amount. To calculate your salary for a semester, the base rate would be pro‐rated based on the units worked out of 15 WTUs. If you were a Lecturer A assigned 3 units at the minimum salary, your pay would be structured as follows: $5,507 x 3/15 (3 units out of a possible 15 units total) = $1101.40 x 6 checks = $6,608.40 total for 3 units/semester.
REQUIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
PK-3 ECE INSTRUCTION SPECIALIST
REQUIRED: Master's degree in education or related field, or Bachelor's degree with significant relevant professional experience (7 years or more) and recent PK-3rd grade professional experience (at least one assignment in the last 3 years); coursework emphasis (e.g., 24 units or more) in Early Childhood Education for either degree.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Doctorate in Education or related field. For field supervisor positions, recent experience (within last 3 years) mentoring teacher candidates or new teachers in grades TK, K or 1st; California Multiple Subject teaching credential; California Master Teacher Level or higher Child Development permit. For instructional faculty, prior higher education teaching experience.
MULTIPLE SUBJECT
REQUIRED: Master's degree in education or related field, or Bachelor's degree with significant relevant professional experience (7 years or more).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate; for instructional faculty, prior higher education teaching experience; for field supervisor positions, experience mentoring teacher candidates or new teachers; California Multiple Subject teaching credential.
SINGLE SUBJECT

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION Success Using Multiple Methods in Tutoring (SUMMIT) is a Learning Center program that encompasses all tutoring services, including an embedded academic peer support program: Peer Academic Support Structure (PASS). The SUMMIT Faculty Coordinator works closely with the Learning Center Faculty Coordinator to develop SUMMIT and its programs, including the PASS program. Work includes the development, enhancement and implementation of academic assistance programs; the development of curriculum and training programs; the assessment of all programs, the setting of procedures and work protocols for Instructional Assistants, Student Tutors, Academic Support Peers, and other staff; the coordination with other programs; and extensive outreach with instructional faculty. The Summit Coordinator actively participates as a member of the Academic Support Committee and other associated committees and workgroups, and assists as appropriate with Equity Plan projects, BSI projects and other student success projects and planning.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Program Development/ Evaluation/ Modification- Provide planning, development and implementation for all SUMMIT academic assistance programs; analyze and evaluate existing programs, procedures and work protocols, adding to, modifying and/or revising them, as necessary so that all programs and activities promote student success; work with the Research and Planning Office to develop research queries relating to programs with the goal of enhancing student retention and success; assist with program reviews and revisions as required. Develop and implement new tutoring programs, trainings and training curriculum for SUMMIT; market SUMMIT programs, develop procedures for access to services and facilities; maintain currency of understanding of laws and proposed legislation pertinent to academic support programs; serve as liaison between the Tutor Center and faculty members. COMPENSATION
Placement on the District's Faculty Salary Schedule is dependent upon years of experience and level of education. Entry-level is from $66,812.56 to $89,535.23 at the time of employment. The current highest salary attainable after employment is $119,985.75. The District offers a very competitive benefits package, which includes health and welfare as well as income protection. Employees also will be members of the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS). And when California authorized community colleges to offer baccalaureate degrees, Solano College's Bachelors of Science in Biomanufacturing became one of the first fifteen programs to pioneer this new mission of the community colleges. The duties of the new faculty member will include teaching biotechnology lower division and/or upper division lecture and laboratory classes, participating in curriculum development (developing new courses and certificates), interacting with other partners, and planning for the future of the biotechnology program at Solano College. * WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The recommended candidate(s) will work in a small office or larger room with multiple people, in a primarily sedentary nature, either sitting or standing. This role will require significant technology use, including long periods of looking at technology screens and entering information using a keyboard and/or mouse. Creates a dynamic, learner-centered environment that uses a variety of teaching methods that support the diverse learning needs of the student population and that are based on educational theory and evidence-based teaching and clinical practices.
Models reflective and critical thinking and serves as a coach and mentor for students; confers with them on their progress and assists them in developing learning plans to facilitate achievement of course objectives.
Maintains and enhances competence in subjects being taught.
Confers with colleagues to ensure the integrity of the courses across programs and the curriculum.
Prepares and reviews written examinations, papers, and student projects.
Notifies the Course Manager of at-risk students and any issues at the clinical sites.
Supervises or teaches clinical rotations as needed in acute, community, and laboratory settings and internship/preceptorship courses.
Documents student progress on appropriate forms.
Instructional assignments may be assigned at any SMU campus.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
Earned Master's required, Doctorate in nursing or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning, preferred .
Current California Public Health Certificate or eligible for certification in California.
Three years of work experience as a public health or community health nurse in California.
Teaching experience of diverse students at the baccalaureate or higher degree level, preferred.

Unencumbered California registered nurse license or eligible for licensure in California.
Experience working with leadership in healthcare academic institutions and community organizations preferred.
