WORKING CONDITIONS:

This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. Lecture (theory) credits are compensated at $1,090 per credit, which includes scheduled class time and final exam days, in addition to a per credit stipend based on the high demand tier. All guided practice instructional credits for adjunct will be paid with an additional pay factor of 1.33. Future advancement in base salary, up to the current maximum of $1,640 per credit, is based upon a combination of years of service accrued at our college and professional development activity.

The Science Division at Bellevue College is organized into seven programs: Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Molecular Biosciences, Engineering, Computer Science, and Earth & Space Science. Essential Functions
Typically, part-time faculty in Mathematics teach on campus, as dictated by program need, course schedule, and enrollment demand. Most classes meet daily, though there are some that meet twice per week onsite. In addition, part-time faculty are expected to be available to students periodically outside of class; to engage students actively in their own learning; to maintain high standards regarding course content; provide students with timely feedback on their course work and examinations; and to adhere to program assessment practices and policies. WWU College of the Environment Western on the Peninsulas programs provide off-campus degree programs designed with a flexible schedule (evening hours) for working adults and offers three bachelor's degrees as follows: BA in Environmental Studies (emphasis either in Geographic Information Systems or in Environmental Science); BA in Natural Resource Management; and BS in Environmental Science. The Evergreen State College seeks a broadly trained mycologist with a transdisciplinary understanding of fungi to teach one or more offerings within our undergraduate Mycology Certificate program: Topics in Mycology (fall 2026) and/or Fungi for Human Health and the Environment (Spring 2026).
We invite candidates who situate the scientific study of mycology within broader ecological, social, cultural, or philosophical contexts. The successful candidate for Topics in Mycology will introduce students to a specialized area of mycology within their expertise (including but not limited to topics in pathology, genomics, or conservation). The successful candidate for Fungi for Human Health and the Environment will help students deepen their understanding fungi not only as biological entities but also as key contributors to social, ecological, and creative systems, drawing on insights from the social sciences, environmental sciences, arts, or humanities.
The spring 2026 course, Topics in Mycology, is a 4-credit online offering. The class meets synchronously Wednesday evenings with an option for up to half of the instruction to be delivered asynchronously using a Canvas learning management system.
The fall 2026 class, Fungi for Human Health and the Environment, is an 8-credit, team-taught, hybrid offering with some in-person labs and workshops (on the Olympia Campus) in addition to synchronous and asynchronous online instruction. The class meets Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings.

We seek an engaging teacher/scholar with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and prior academic and/or professional experience in the field of mycology. Our new colleague must be able to develop curriculum and work with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of professionalism, punctuality, and content relevance for diverse learners.

Job Expectations
Curriculum in the school of Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) is based on undergraduate certificates and bachelor's degree completion curriculum comprised of 4-credit and 8-credit offerings, and capstone work that may include internships or individual study. Courses and programs are offered online, in-person, or in hybrid formats. All curriculum includes synchronous meetings for at least half of the class instruction time. Synchronous sessions occur in the evenings or on weekends (Pacific Time). Faculty development opportunities are provided to help faculty increase skills in online teaching and curriculum design.
Evergreen uses narrative evaluations in lieu of grades, and faculty are generally responsible for evaluating 25 students/quarter in each class. Faculty support students with informal advising as they reflect on their learning processes and develop their own areas of academic concentration.
Our pedagogy centers on collaborative learning communities. We are interested in helping students develop interdisciplinary approaches to critical thinking, problem solving, communication, and collaboration across the curriculum. Because over 80% of our students come from underserved and marginalized groups, we are particularly invested in approaches to teaching that emphasize diversity and equity, that provide opportunities for challenge and growth, and that foster a learning environment where all are welcome, and all can learn from each other.
This is an adjunct faculty position and not eligible for continuing appointment. All requirements for the position must be completed at the time of hire. Salary for all positions is based on experience and degrees (see Salary Grid for more information). We do not offer relocation expenses for our adjunct faculty positions.

Minimum Qualifications
* Master's of Science Degree (Botany, Biology, Mycology or related field)
* Prior teaching and/or mentoring experience.
Preferred Qualifications
* Masters' Degree in Anthropology, Sociology, Health, Psychology, Environmental Humanities or a related field.
* PhD or terminal degree in any field.
* Substantial transdisciplinary study of mycology outside of biological science such as training in ethnomycology, environmental philosophy, political ecology, food or environmental justice, science journalism, or studies of fungi in history, literature, religion, or media.
* Evidence of potential to successfully work with individuals from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
* Prior experience teaching/presenting in an online environment.

Opportunities will be available for clinical research and collaboration with physician/scientists in the Seattle Children's Research Institute and basic scientists in the Departments of Pediatrics and Genome Sciences at the University of Washington. Clinical biochemical genetic services are currently provided by five biochemical geneticists, three genetic counselors, three nurses, three dietitians, and one social worker.

The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professors $16,667 - $19,584 per month ($200,004 - $235,008 annually), Associate Professors $17,500 - $20,417 per month ($210,000 - $245,004 annually) and Professors $19,042 - $28,562 per month ($228,504 - $342,744 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children's University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations.
