About this Position
Responsible for instructing and guiding students in the development of skills and knowledge necessary to become professional interpreters utilizing American Sign Language (ASL). Perform a combination of theoretical instruction and practical training, ensuring that students are well-prepared to handle real-world interpreting tasks across various settings. Develop in each student the skills of critical thinking and to help students learn the subject matter presented to them in order for that student to become a positive member of the community.
Required Qualifications
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Interpretation, Translation Studies, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Deaf Studies, or a related field. (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
Must be fluent in ASL and have worked extensively with deaf and hard of hearing individuals.
Professional Interpreting: Extensive experience as a professional interpreter, ideally with a minimum of 5 years of active interpreting practice. Experience should include both simultaneous and consecutive interpreting in ASL.
Specialized Fields: Experience in interpreting within various specialized fields such as medical, legal, conference, community, or business settings. This diversity of experience helps in providing students with a comprehensive understanding of different interpreting environments.
Teaching Experience: Prior experience teaching interpretation at the college level or in professional training programs. This includes developing curriculum, delivering lectures, and supervising practical exercises.
Must have educational qualifications to teach in subject area or have documented specialty education/experience to meet tested experience requirements, as per the Higher Learning Commission's publication on Determining Qualified Faculty, and provide leadership in an academic discipline and/or degree program.
Programs with discipline-specific external accreditation may have more stringent training and experience requirements.
Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:
National Interpreter Certification (NIC): This certification is for hearing ASL-English interpreters. Candidates must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent, pass a knowledge exam and a performance exam, and adhere to the RID Code of Professional Conduct.
Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI): This certification is for Deaf ASL-English interpreters. Candidates must complete 40 hours of interpreter training and, after a transitional period, hold at least a bachelor's degree. They must also pass both a knowledge exam and a performance exam.
Quality Assurance Screening Test (QAST): The Oklahoma Interpreter Certification and Resource Center (ICRC) is the primary body responsible for certifying sign language interpreters in Oklahoma. The ICRC utilizes the Quality Assurance Screening Test (QAST) system to assess the proficiency of individuals seeking certification. This program is managed by the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services, Services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
Must be fluent in ASL.
Teaching Competence - Must be able to create lesson plans, content, presentations, ancillary materials, and assignments to effectively transform information to knowledge for students; have the ability to assess student learning and progress.
Communication skills - Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with clear, grammatically correct English. Requires interaction with supervisors, colleagues, students, using tact, discretion, and independent judgment.
Computer skills - Must be demonstrably proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel), as well as e-mail and Internet.
Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU brand with positivity and professionalism.
Demonstrated history of ethical and professional behavior.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in discipline or related area or master's degree with 18 hours in discipline required (transfer classes) A master's degree is often preferred and sometimes required.
Relevant fields include Interpretation, Translation Studies, Linguistics, Education, or a related discipline.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands (dependent upon course content):
The work requirements for this position include teaching during daytime and some evening hours depending upon the needs of the department and its students. Generally, classes are held in the Ann Lacy School of American Dance building on the OCU campus, however, some classes may be conducted remotely.
Requires dance professional capable of sustained physical activity and the ability to demonstrate required technique.
Requires frequent standing, walking, and sitting. Constantly requires speaking clearly, both seeing near, far and with depth perception.
Work may be carried out in performance spaces. In performance spaces, lighting levels vary from total darkness to full stage lighting.
Work in performance spaces requires the ability to move quickly from audience to stage areas which are at different levels. There is long exposure to theater and studio sound equipment volume levels.
For those who would like or are assigned to teach remotely, the university currently supports residency in the following states only: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Missouri, New Mexico, Oregon, and Virginia.
Foreign national adjuncts must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship and will be required to provide information regarding their status after hire for international taxation purposes.

The Physician Assistant (PA) Program within the College of Health Professions occasionally has openings for part-time adjunct faculty. Applying for a part-time adjunct teaching position allows the PA Program Director to access available candidate information if and when a part-time adjunct teaching need arises within the current or future academic year. Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach course or components of a course as assigned by the PA Program Director
Coordinate and teach the didactic course established within the PA Program in accordance with applicable accreditation standards
Develop and distribute course syllabus and course content in accordance with protocols and templates provided by the PA Program and applicable accreditation standards
Hold office hours outside of scheduled class and individual advisement to support the students, as needed
Formulate, proctor, and grade course assessments and assignments
Serve as student advisor and small group facilitator in learning experiences as directed by the PA Program Director
Adhere to all policies within the Oklahoma City University Faculty and Staff Handbooks
Qualifications:
A Master's degree as a Physician Assistant or terminal degree in a relevant field is required. Additional education requirements may vary by course. Those who are PAs must be currently certified by NCCPA, eligible for licensure in Oklahoma, and a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a PA.
Previous experience teaching at the graduate level is strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Computer skills sufficient to deliver online instruction (if applicable), navigate course management software, and common Microsoft Office applications.
Flexible teaching style to accommodate individual learning styles.
Ability to maintain course schedule through regular, punctual attendance.
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with the PA program director and program faculty and staff.
Additional Information:
The work requirements for this position include teaching during daytime and some evening hours depending upon the needs of the department and its students. Generally, classes are held in the Sarkeys building on the OCU campus, however, some classes may take place in other locations on campus.
Foreign national adjuncts must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship and will be required to provide information regarding their status after hire for international taxation purposes.
Interested adjuncts must apply fully and online to be considered.
Candidates who are selected and accept teaching assignments must provide their current CV and transcripts upon hire. All university employees must complete a criminal background check and mandatory training. Once hired, adjunct faculty are typically onboarded at least two weeks before the beginning of the semester to which they are assigned. Adjuncts who do not complete all steps in the hiring and onboarding process in a timely manner may experience a delay in pay.

Job Description
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Worldwide campus is currently hiring adjunct faculty to teach SFTY 426 - System Safety Management in person at our Oklahoma City, OK campus.
Course Description
This course emphasizes using specialized techniques employed in System Safety throughout all phases of a system's life cycle. Fundamentals of systems engineering, combined with sound management practices, are presented in this course to enable the student to fully appreciate System Safety's vital role in preventing mishaps. Students will acquire an understanding of how this approach to safety aids in the prediction of potential failures and hazards that are designed into equipment, processes, and facilities.
Please note that ERAU policy requires that all adjuncts be physically located within the United States while working for the University, including during training. Presently, we are able to support work for new adjuncts from all U.S. states except
California
. ERAU does not support work from international locations with some limited exceptions for individuals who are residing and working from U.S. military bases.
If selected for this role, the candidate will be required to provide proof of stated qualifications.
