Adjunct Faculty Liberal Arts Department The Cleveland Institute of Art seeks qualified applicants for Adjunct Faculty positions in Liberal Arts teach electives in art history, media studies, the study of visual culture, and related areas. We welcome applicants with interests in teaching established courses from our catalog as well as those who are interested in developing new “special topics” electives for students of art and design. Minimum qualifications include a master's degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience. Adjunct faculty are not eligible for benefits. Adjunct faculty are limited to a maximum of four teaching assignments per academic year. In-person teaching is required for this course. Compensation is commensurate with experience. The School of Medicine has committed resources for major expansion of the Neurosciences including hiring of tenure track research focused faculty at the rank of assistant or associate professor. To accomplish this objective, the Department of Neurosciences will initiate a nationwide search during FY2026 with the expectation of recruiting new faculty for FY2027.
In the initial year, the new assistant professor faculty member's responsibility will be to equip the new independent investigator lab, hire staff, recruit trainees, write and submit new principal investigator grant proposals, and begin pursuing research objectives. The development of the assistant professor faculty member's role will include, beginning in year 2 or 3, teaching in graduate level coursework and/or in the Case Western Reserve Medical School curriculum. During the pretenure years, the faculty member will analyze new findings and assemble the findings into manuscripts for publication. The assistant professor will begin to pursue activities at the national and international levels such as journal article refereeing, national and private foundation grant review, and invited seminar presentations at other institutions. Locally, the faculty member will begin to contribute service in years 3 and beyond by participating on departmental, medical school and/or university committees. Faculty recruited at the associate level will begin teaching in years 1 or 2. These faculty will continue their research programs, continue pursuit of grant funding, and develop new collaborations with existing CWRU faculty. Associate level faculty will expand their existing national and international research and service activities and take on leadership roles in departmental activities and committees.

Adjunct Faculty Pool - Health Education
Instructors provide quality instruction for student learning and maintain a positive learning environment in the class. The major emphasis for instructors is on teaching and evaluating students in the course. Classes are taught in a variety of formats and at several different locations, as well as online. Instructors also communicate with students between classes and are responsible for several administrative duties such as reporting on academic activity and submitting final grades.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Planning and teaching classes as assigned and as outlined in the course descriptions and course syllabi and departmental guidelines.
2. Beginning and ending all classes as scheduled and covering all relevant learning outcomes for each course.
3. Maintaining academic standards and classroom behavior to ensure an environment conducive to learning, communicating with students weekly, and answering student emails in a timely manner.
4. Evaluating students using a variety of methods and informing each student of scores received on each assessment in a timely manner.
5. Using Cleveland State email for administrative purposes and responding to student questions via Cleveland State email in a timely manner.
6. Meeting deadlines for all administrative requests such as submitting personnel paperwork, acknowledging contracts, academic activity and assessment reports, and final grades.
7. Submitting requests through the department chair, program coordinator/director, or lead teacher for equipment, supplies, textbooks, and other instructional aids.
Qualifications: Master's degree or higher in a qualifying field or Master's degree or higher with 18 graduate semester hours in any combination of the qualifying fields including Health, Physical Education, Public Health, Wellness, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology or related field. Also needs to hold BLS certification with American Heart Association in order to teach Safety Education/First Aid/CPR.
Availability/Closing Date: This posting is not a guarantee of an open position. The School of Arts, Sciences & Education at Walsh University is accepting applications for adjunct faculty to teach the following undergraduate English courses in composition:
ENG 100 - Writing Workshop
Intensive work in writing paragraphs and short essays to remedy basic errors in grammar, usage, and syntax. Students should expect to spend 8 to 10 hours per semester in The Writing Center for individualized study and tutorial assistance. Computer lab used to develop writing skills.
ENG 101 - Exploration of Self
A study of the writing process with the personal essay as its goal. Students compose informal and autobiographical essays after studying model works representing various cultures and writings.
ENG 102 - Reading/Writing Connections
An introduction to research emphasizing those skills essential to production of the formal research paper. Students learn the principles of argumentation and close textual analysis, including the ability to summarize, paraphrase, annotate, document, and critically interpret sources. Students also study the nature of academic argument and oral presentation.
Most sections are offered in an on-campus academic classroom although some online sections may be offered. Each section meets for eight weeks, and there are two eight-week terms per semester. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach.
Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Must understand and support the Mission, Vision and Code of Ethical Conduct of Walsh University, as a Catholic higher education university as expressed in Ex Corde Ecclesiae, and possess the following:
Candidates should possess a minimum of a master's degree in English, Composition/Rhetoric, MFA in Creative Writing, or master's degree in a related field with a minimum of 30 graduate credit hours in the subject to be taught and preferably have experience teaching at the undergraduate level. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate an ability to teach the process of college writing and researching, as well as critical thinking and oral communication skills. Professional demeanor and ability to interact with charity towards students, staff and faculty. Positive attitude a must.
