Fairbanks Scales company history timeline

1830

In 1830, Thaddeus built his first real scale and applied for a patent.

1833

Platform scales made by E. & T. Fairbanks were on the market by 1833.

1837

These patents, in turn, were canceled because of defective specifications, and newer ones (#118 and #119) were granted on February 10, 1837.

And they contributed to the silver medal that the Fairbanks brothers won at the 1837 exhibition of the Massachusetts Charitable Mechanics Association.

1846

In 1846, trade began in China.

1860

By 1860, the Vermont-based company was selling scales throughout the Caribbean, South America, India and Russia.

1865

Following the end of the Civil War in 1865, the United States continued to prosper and grow—so did E & T Fairbanks & Company.
