Fairview is looking for an EmergencyDepartment Technician (EDT) to join our ED team at our Fairview Ridges hospital in Burnsville, MN. The Emergency Room Technician (EDT) assists the professional nurse in delivering patient care, transporting patients and equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and managing supplies. Depending on unit needs and the discretion of the professional nurse, the EDT may be assigned patient care responsibilities.Located just south of the Twin Cities, Fairview Ridges Hospital is a trusted emergency care destination for families in Burnsville, Apple Valley, Lakeville, Savage, and Eagan. We provide comprehensive, high-quality care for patients of all ages, including a dedicated pediatric emergencydepartment.Our Child-Family Life Specialists, pediatric inpatient unit, and child-friendly spaces ensure every patient and family member receives the care and compassion they deserve.
Schedule:This position will be working 0.70 FTE (56 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 8 hour day/evening shifts with a mix of 7am-3pp, 9am-5pm, and 3pm-11pm. This position will work every other weekend rotation.
Job Expectations:
Provides patient care:
* Transports patients by wheelchair and cart
* Assists patients with ambulation and positioning
* Informs RN of patient/family observations and concerns
* Promptly responds to patient call lights/requests
* Demonstrates concern for patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality
* Performs tasks with adaptations or modifications consistent with patients ages and developmental abilities
* Obtains ordered specimens from patient
* Transports specimens and blood products
* Demonstrates adherence to proper procedures
* Assists in resuscitation
* Functions as nurse extender: assists nurses with patient care activities
Documents patient care activities and procedures on the nursing records.
* Documentation is clear, concise, accurate and timely
Maintains room/unit and supplies
* Restocks room, supplies, and carts
* Assists with patient room clean-up between patients
* Completes room and cart checklist
Performs quality control checks on designated pieces of equipment
* Completes quality control checklist
* Reports discrepancies and malfunctions to charge nurse or manager
Required Qualifications (Must have BLS certification and ONE of the following):
* Current EMT or ERT certification
* Current Paramedic certification
* Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) on the MN Registry
* Enrolled in an LPN, RN, or NP program (with at least 1 completed clinical semester)
* Six months of recent hands-on patient care experience (acute, long-term, or home care)
* Completed Fairview's OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program
* LPN licensure
Preferred Qualifications:
* 1+ years of EmergencyDepartment experience (EMT, ERT, paramedic, scribe, etc.)
* Current experience as a CNA or NST

Do you have a special curiosity about the EmergencyDepartment? UMMC East Bank EmergencyDepartment is a 28 bed Level 3 Trauma Center. We deliver care to about 80 patients per day and 30,000 patients annually. We offer a multidisciplinary approach to all emergencies. Team members include Board Certified Emergency Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, Registered Nurses, ER Techs, Health Unit Coordinators, Transport, and Case Managers. We provide prompt, quality care around the clock, when patients are faced with medical or behavioral emergencies.
Job Responsibilities:
The registered nurse in the EmergencyDepartment is responsible and accountable for patient assessment, analysis, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention application, and the identification and evaluation of outcomes for patients of all ages and populations.
The scope of practice extends from a patient's entry into the emergency room and continues from triage through discharge. Care is centered on patients and families experiencing acute or chronic, actual or potential physical or psychosocial problems. Unique to emergency nursing are processes that require resuscitation and/or stabilization
* Triaging patients effectively according to policies, laws, and resources.
* Using the nursing process to deliver care for any patients addressing the department. An individualized plan of care is developed in collaboration with the patient, family, and healthcare team to support the physical and emotional needs of a wide range of ill/ injured patients.
* Prioritizing the care of multiple patients with varied presentations.
* Initiating timely interventions to prevent, correct, or minimize risks to the patient.
