Responsibilities The Dialysis Technician is responsible for providing specialized care for patients undergoing dialysis at Mayo Clinic. The Tech works with a Registered Nurse to provide basic dialysis care, including starting and stopping treatment, caring for patients during treatment, and maintaining dialysis equipment to ensure patient safety. The Dialysis Technician will perform other tasks as delegated by the RN or supervisor, which may include additional patient care tasks and supply inventory management. These responsibilities require attention to detail and the ability to follow written instructions. The Dialysis Technician is an integral member of the health care team in dialysis. The Clinical Hemodialysis Technician functions as an interdisciplinary team member to meet patient and family care needs within the Mayo Clinic Dialysis Services (MCDS) system. Under the supervision of the RN, is responsible for providing assistance in the provision of dialysis services through multiple roles. These roles include but are not limited to: direct patient care and observations, basic hemodialysis techniques and procedures, equipment maintenance, water treatment monitoring, vascular access monitoring, cleaning and disinfection of the hemodialysis machine, , drawing blood samples and preparing them for transport, and performing both simple and complex laboratory tests and the required quality controls. Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent required. Certified nursing assistant training course required OR one year of direct patient care experience in a hospital setting or other health care setting OR RN student with one semester of clinical coursework completed OR completion of a Dialysis Technician training program. Job Responsibilities The Emergency Department Technician is responsible for assisting the professional nurse in the delivery of patient care, transporting patients and / or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and reordering and stocking supplies. The EDT performs patient care duties under the delegation of an RN which may include: * 12 lead EKG's * Orthopedic applications * Sterile procedures * Patient transport and ambulation * Wound dressing and irrigation Additional responsibilities for the EDT include: * Providing for patient safety by following appropriate safety procedures and applying proper infection control techniques. * Promptly responding to call lights and requests. * Documenting patient care activities and procedures on the nursing record. * Assisting in resuscitation with appropriate CPR and bag/valve mask. * Maintaining patient rooms by restocking the room, supplies, and carts, and assisting with patient room clean-up between patients. * Performing quality control checks on designated pieces of equipment. * Performing other tasks as needed. Required License/Certification/Registration * Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required upon hire and must be maintained throughout employment. Ontrack participants must be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
