Summary: Under supervision of the communications manager, this position performs a variety of skills and semi-skilled functions in support of the communication center; receives and dispatches emergency and non-emergency calls assist with ancillary services; provides EmergencyMedical Dispatch (EMD) direction and participates in the work of a dispatcher/call taker and performs other duties as assigned.
The fundamental reason this classification exists is to operate EmergencyMedical Service (EMS) Computer-Aided Dispatching equipment to quickly and accurately receive and transmit information of an emergency nature for AlphaOne Ambulance Medical Services, Inc. and contracted communities and facilities.
Work involves evaluating incoming calls to determine the appropriate level of EMS assistance required, dispatching units, and transmitting information and messages upon request and/or according to established policies/procedures. Employees are expected to demonstrate extensive communications skills and to exercise considerable judgment under pressure. Work is performed under the general direction of a communications manager and/or shift lead. Dispatchers must be able to work any assigned shift, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Shifts are typically 12 hours long, on a “4/3 split” schedule (4 days on, 3 days off, 3 days on, 4 days off). However, duration of shifts and scheduled workdays may vary due to operational need.
Qualifications
Essential Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Techniques, procedures, and methods used in the operations of a communication center.
General knowledge of geographical orientation, cities and locations of highways, hospitals, and main streets.
Effective interpersonal communication methods and techniques.
Must be able to pass the IAED certification course within 1 month of hire (unless unforeseen circumstances or class scheduling prevent this) and maintain EMD, and CPR certification during employment.
Must demonstrate proficiency in all areas of the position within 42 completed training shifts:
Must demonstrate proficiency in emergency and IFT call taking, IFT dispatch, and Emergency dispatch within 14 training shifts, respectively.

What you'll be doing:
As an EMT-B, you will function within the scope of each county's clinical and operational protocols, as well as abide by all of Royals processes, policies, quality standards and expectations of quality patient care and exceptional customer service.

Program participants are 18 and over adults who are under the influence of substances and need short term assistance and support. HR360 will be operating the Privacy Area at the Tenderloin Linkage Center in a manner that treats all participants with compassion, dignity and respect. Shifts are staffed with a supervisor, EMT, health workers, and safety navigators. The team works to ensure the safety of ‘participants who use drugs' in the Privacy Area.
The program is a welcoming, compassionate, trauma-informed, culturally attuned, and user-responsive space that focuses on the principles of harm reduction. Alongside providing a safe, comfortable space for clients, our emphasis is on supporting people at increased risk of substance use-related high-risk behaviors and trauma, homelessness, and death due to overdose. Priority will be given to clients' safety, and all staff will be trained in OD Prevention, Recognition, Response and Narcan Administration
EMT's in Harm Reduction Services provide direct care medical evaluation of client, including but not limited to vital signs and assessment of acute symptoms or emergency. EMT's also engagement, support, and provide documentation as appropriate for participants in the HR360 SoMa RISE program. As a part of a collaborative team, along with health workers, safety navigators, and supervisors, EMTs will ensure participant safety and comfort while supporting them in adhering to the participant guidelines of the program. EMTs will model and demonstrate healthy COVID transmission prevention behaviors, wearing appropriate PPE and practicing physical distancing, while they observe and monitor participants, and support them in meeting their needs in accordance with the program. EMT's may be required to complete minimal documentation, such as recording vital signs, and assist in connecting our participants to ongoing services and supports, and others as they arise. The EMT may be required to work nights and weekends. The EMT may also be designated to fill the role of Health & Safety Representative including monthly safety trainings, emergency drills, maintain safety supplies, update emergency response plan, and attend safety meetings.

Key Responsibilities
Direct Service Responsibilities:

Provide health education and support in accordance with harm reduction principles;
Work as active team member along with health workers, janitors, safety monitors, and supervisors to maintain safety, calm tone, and cleanliness of program;
If necessary, to provide proactive ‘warm-handoff' referral and linkages for participants to hospital care, substance use treatment, health, and social services;
Chaperone “fresh air” breaks, “smoking Breaks”, on-site food delivery service, and other onsite services.
May be required to work nights and weekends.
Administrative/Compliance Responsibilities:
Engage with community partners around participant referrals;
May need to assist in completing participant observation logs, documenting rounds and occasionally observing the milieu for interval checks;
Attending internal program staff meetings and administrative supervision including regular shift meetings and various ad hoc meetings;
Along with Team, taking ownership to ensure the overall quality of customer and health services at program;
Potentially fill the role of Health & Safety Representative including monthly safety trainings, emergency drills, maintain safety supplies, update emergency response plan, and attend safety meetings."
Training Responsibilities:
Participate in ongoing trainings on radical hospitality, harm reduction, OD Prevention/Narcan Administration, anti-stigma, crisis response and de-escalation.
Basic drug knowledge, motivational interviewing, customer service, trauma-informed service provision, team-based care, and other related topics.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education and Experience:
Certified as an EMT (EmergencyMedicalTechnician) with active current certification.
Lived experience of homelessness, illicit drug, and alcohol use (preferred).
Experience working with people who use drugs and people experiencing homelessness.
Experience working successfully with issues of substance abuse, mental health, criminal background, systemic racism, poverty and other potential barriers to economic self-sufficiency.
Proficiency with harm reduction, restorative justice and trauma-informed care.

Job Function

Under general direction of the Supervisor of Inpatient Phlebotomy Services, the Certified Phlebotomy Technician I works cooperatively with all team members in performing all tasks related to the collection and preparation of blood specimens for analysis.
Core Competencies
Identifies, collects and labels blood specimens according to procedures.
Utilizes various venipuncture devices.
Adheres to infection control guidelines uses good handwashing technique, adheres to isolation policy, cleaning equipment between patients.
Performs blood specimen collection for adult patients.
Performs blood specimen collection for pediatric and infant patients.
Ensures communication is appropriate to the age and status of the patient.
Prioritizes and coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency.
Draws TC, Pre-OP and STAT specimens within the stated practice.
TC specimens within 15 minutes of scheduled time.
STATs and Pre-OP specimens within 15 minutes of order; sends to Lab immediately.
Performs up to 6 venipunctures per hour.
Meets blood culture contamination rate of < 1.0%.
Meets practice standard for specimen quality (hemolysis, clotted and QNS specimen rates).
Performs clerical and computer-related documentation accurately.
Ensures quality specimen draws by contacting Lab if unsure of specimen requirement and follows pre-analytic processes for specimen stability.
Uses the appropriate hand off communication techniques (SBAR) when appropriate.
Reviews notification tools in the department daily to stay current with changes and issues. Reviews e-mail and responds as needed.
Demonstrates an active problem solving attitude & positive approach to all aspects of job
Maintains safe work area by observing all safety procedures and reporting any unsafe conditions or practices to the appropriate personnel.
Participates in hospital performance improvement activities (kaizens, lean initiatives) when appropriate.
License / Certification Requirements
CA CPT Certification due at time of application
Compensation Range
$24.00 - $30.35
