I thought when I was hired at family dollar in oak park was my dream job but evidently there’s some behind the scenes favoritism going on.
I loved working here I mean it was security for me and kids and I’ll admit I was late on several occasions but on 01/26/2024 I called and spoke with Rico and told him I had some family emergency going on I would be there he never communicated with other leadership and I spent for a lift to rush to work by 4:00pm.to be fired just no write ups warned I would be transferred but never fired.
The perks was my favorite customers and being able to purchase things and take my kids different things I love this job it’s my life.
I don’t know to much about the ceo it’s never brought up in conversation but I know with this situation that happen quite sure I’ll be in contact with someone.
Stealing, favoritism, and the respect of your boss just very disrespectful others were stealing I never felt it’s my place but I’ve seen a lot in my 6 mos.there my boss Jim in oakpark have just been disrespectful to me and others
I was called after I did my application was told to finish my paperwork on line and they’ll set up a date for me to start.
I was never told about compensation but I came back to work after 2 weeks of giving birth because I was told if I didn’t I would be fired how inconsiderate huh.
Putting a smile on a customers face and just be able to have a job that you adore and knowing that GOD made all this happen.
Not that I've ever seen. The worst was the guy who stole 300 bucks worth of Tide. That wasn't really a robbery though. I've caught several people stealing though and have escorted many people out. One woman I told to leave I was 99.999% sure sure was going to come back in. But with a gun this time. She didn't though. I am actually allowed to ask anyone scary to leave if they make me nervous. I don't have to supply them a reason. I can just politely ask them if they could leave my store. I feel bad sometimes because it is very much profiling. I have to remember though that we've been robbed and I'm not going to put anyone at risk because I don't want to hurt a customer's feelings. One thing we do is we greet and make direct eye contact with every person who comes in. If we see people who are kinda iffy then we call loudly out "CODE A!!" or "SKU CHECK!!". It makes potential wrong-doers nervous and gets whoever is on the floor walking around regreeting everyone.
Turning a family dollar store that got robbed regulary and the theft rate extremely high into a nice and safe place to shop
When I took on the role of being the greeter/loss prevention I changed the family dollar store on Michigan St in haughville
I don't have a favorite benefit
I don't like anything about the leadership at least not from district manager Christina Torres and loss prevention Randall Thomas and shouldn't have the positions they have
Firing a district manager and loss prevention Randall Thomas
I didn't I walked in wth confidence
I have nothing good to say about the family dollar store that I work at
The district manager and loss prevention don't deserve there position's
Keeping the woman employees safe and putting a stop to alot of the theft that takes place
I haven't really been at my place for long enough to have anything truly horrible happen to me. The worst was a guy who I caught stealing red handed and he went out into the parking lot with his family in tow and started taking all his clothes off. He had already thrown what he stole in his car and I guess he didn't think I saw that. He undressed as a way to prove he didn't have anything. We called the cops but he left and had removed his plates (with the help of his 7 year old daughter) so he probably wasn't caught.
I don't really know about changes company wide. At our store we added enough cameras that we can monitor every part of the store. We also have mirrors everywhere so that no matter what isle you're down you can see the other shoppers. And we're just all around more attentive.
Flexibly hours the managers wouldn't constantly bother u they were easy to please
Definitely not enough pay
We had an hour lunch
Didn't have to deal with them
Better security

The people i enjoyed helping people
The leadership was not interested in what was best for his management team. He was not willing to back them up when they needed his help to develop to the step.
I like to make service for people

Give people happiness and i make them happy, not sad. if they sad, i make them happy with my funny actions
Family dollar is a company that offers advancement from within

None no hours low pay always yelled at by management
No hours low pay no benefits no paid vacation dangerous work environment closed by fire marshal often the employee self service is a joke
None the worse place I have ever worked management and middle management only know how to run a store into the ground
I liked associating with people and helping people.
It was too messy and I didn’t know where all the products were located.
I benefitted in having experience in a Cashier position.
The customer interaction was the best part of working at Family Dollar.
The lack of leadership, was the only thing I didn’t like about working for Family Dollar. The management team would speak down to the employees as well as the customers.
Weekly Pay
Relaxed atmosphere. kind managers
Slow traffic of consumers
Being able to purchase what I need for home, convenience.
The boss, Johnny, was easy to get along with
It was rarely busy as well as my hours were cut.
The boss was friendly, yet still got on my butt when needed. Making it clear what needed to be done
I really love work with people and I love working from home.
Net work.
Money
The family oriented nature of a small town business that's valuable to the community.
Shady and illegal business practices.
Working close to home.
I like the opportunities to be quickly promoted.
At Family Dollar the pay is nit worth the amount of work.
Great product inventory. You can always find what you want or need at Family Dollar.
Customers
Hostile working environment
Close to home. And the hours were great
Nothing in this company made me like it
Long hours limited pay overload of work no work life balance
There were no perks
Customers are interesting. What happens in the surrounding area is fun to watch or be nosey. I also get to work on my strength up there as well.
My boss and how I get treated up there. There are some customers that are scary and pinning clothes. When your pinning you sometimes bleed from getting poked.
Nothing I don't get and perk or benefit
our customers
pay do not match all the hard work
interaction with our customers and co-workers
Learned many skills as an assistant manager
Do not like cleaning up after customers
Pay is tolerable but looking for more opportunities
I like how my coworkers their are helpful and it helps me manage money when working at the register.
I don’t like how my manager sometimes doesn’t keep me updated on what to do when I have to go in for a shift.
Income to pay my bills having a job

The networking and meeting new people
The way management ran the entire business. It lacked organization and professionalism.
N/A
Fast paced. Something different every day
Too many hours and days worked. No balance
Good pay
The engagement has really increase from employee to manager
no work life balance. You have to work alot of hours due to lack of management
employee moral is at it's all time high. Pay is fare, but benefits are good
something different everyday working with people and customers. I love truck day unloading and stocking shelves and seeing the store get full and neat.
nights and weekends I value being at home with family and my grandchildren
bonus program
Work is always available. Plenty of hours. Hard work. Bad raises and high turnover rate
Job security. As long as you show up and do your job, you're never going to get fired because they always need people.
People with good work ethic end up doing all the work the people with no work ethic don't do. It provides a negative incentive to work hard.
Not really any benefits
Working with the public and being able to use my strengths in organization and creativity.
Heavy merchandise stock.
Close to home and health insurance.
The customer
It's hard sometimes when the stuff your moving weighs more then you
I like my boss an I'm greatful to have employment
Co workers
Non stop closing, can’t make it with $700 every 2 weeks, I get 40 hours and it pays so low, having to push sales, Chance of getting robbed at night so I stand by the door every night at 9pm until closing. I’m a ASM, or that’s what they call it, I’m tired of this job, don’t see my self wanting to be a Store Manager with such poor operation and managers don’t even have enough hours for their employees, I hope they improve
It was okay but it was not what i study at college
It was nothing like i study at college
You can take food that was not sold
I like the fact that everyday I make a difference for the team
The environment
Company Car
Cashier and stocking, and the people and customers where great
Not enough hours
Their hours were good
The proximity to my residence. There are several store within 10 miles of my home.
The cutback of my hours. I am only able to work a maximum of 20 to 30 hours each week.
Every employee of this store was hired at the same time. We all work well together, as far as cleaning the store and stocking the shelves and unloading the trucks.
It's fast-paced and challenging to keep up with the workload that's been assigned. It's fun to meet new people and to work on keep the store in nice condition for customers.
There are very few benefits for full time and no benefits for part-time. They don't even pay for uniforms. They understaff their stores and expect a lot from their workers. They don't pay for maintenance on the property I work at. It's extremely hot in the store this time of year.
N/A. There are no benefits for part-time positions.
Best part? The paycheck.Worst part? Actually going to work.
I don't really know about changes company wide. At our store we added enough cameras that we can monitor every part of the store. We also have mirrors everywhere so that no matter what isle you're down you can see the other shoppers. And we're just all around more attentive.
We don't really have issues with our network stuff.

Yes! A few times. The last time it happened was before my employment. He didn't have a gun but he came in shortly before closing and grabbed the assistant manager at the time and held a screw driver to her neck. The ASM was pregnant and the stress of the ordeal caused her to miscarry. Fortunately, during my employment there have been no incidents.
