Administer anesthesia (general, regional, or monitored anesthesia care) in collaboration with surgeons and other healthcare providers.
Monitor patients during procedures and manage any anesthesia-related complications.
Provide post-anesthesia care and pain management.

Join us as a the Chief Nurse Anesthetist at our NYP/Queens hospital. In this role, you will manage the staff of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) and run the Student Nurse Anesthetist program. You will provide quality anesthesia and analgesia care to patients while under the medical supervision of an anesthesiologist in accordance with professional standards and established procedures. This position will have an active clinical presence based on operational need as well as allocated administrative time.
The Chief Nurse Anesthetist responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. Plans overall staffing levels with Weill Cornell Anesthesia and Senior Director of Nurse Anesthesia. Ensures smooth consistent deployment of CRNA staff. Creates and maintains staffing schedule for the CRNAs, using computerized software and posts updates in real time. Plans quarterly and monthly schedules, manages requests for benefited time.
2. Responsible for recruiting and making new hire decisions with input from HR recruiting and Anesthesia department leadership. Manages and participates in the clinical interview process. Conducts employee appraisals, and makes merit increase suggestions. Provides ongoing critical feedback, and designs and implements corrective action plans for staff. Implements progressive disciplinary actions and termination decisions when indicated with input from HR and Senior Director of Nurse Anesthesia.
3. Approves timekeeping for staff prior to entry or within Kronos. Approves overtime, missed punches and relays schedule information, and updates on a timely basis to Anesthesiology timekeeper. Approves vacation requests, enforces policies regarding absences, and follows appropriate procedures to manage employee attendance.
4. Manages staff development. Responsible for CRNA employee compliance with NYP and WCMC policies and procedures. Plans activities, recognitions, and training sessions to increase morale, professionalism and cohesion among the employees and students. Obtains accreditation of departmental grand rounds through AANA for CME hours. Understands clinical interests of CRNA staff and relays information to faculty making the daily OR schedule on an ongoing basis. Ensures smooth working relationships with OR personnel, faculty, residents and other teams.
5. Responsible for overseeing the educational programming and clinical rotations for Student Nurse Anesthetist training programs either directly or via delegation to a CRNA Clinical Coordinator. Acts as a liaison with participating CRNA programs.
6. Performs clinical responsibilities as needed.

What You'll Do:
Deliver Comprehensive Care: Provide patient care across all ages, diagnosing, treating, and managing health conditions while promoting preventive care and health education.
Collaborate Across Teams: Work hand-in-hand with physicians, mid-level providers, and the whole care team to deliver integrated, top-tier care.
Lead by Example: Oversee and guide Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners, ensuring care standards are met and exceeded.
Be a Lifelong Learner: Stay on top of the latest medical advancements and maintain your licensure, while contributing to our continuous improvement initiatives.
Lead with Integrity: Take full responsibility for patient care, ensuring your practice is rooted in professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Foster Strong Relationships: Build solid, professional relationships with team members across all departments, ensuring seamless collaboration and quality care.
What You Bring:
Medical Expertise: Board Certification or eligibility in Family Medicine with 1-3 years of experience in primary care or internal medicine/pediatrics.
Clinical Competence: A proven ability to handle patient care from A to Z, including diagnoses, prescriptions, and ancillary orders.
Tech-Savvy: Familiarity with EMR systems, especially Allscripts, to document patient care efficiently and accurately.
Collaborative Spirit: You thrive in a multidisciplinary setting, working alongside your team to deliver the best patient outcomes.
Commitment to Growth: Always improving, always learning, and always adapting to the needs of your patients and the team.
