The Dental Hygienist works in conjunction with a dentist to meet the oral health needs of patients, while keeping the patient's care, comfort and safety as the primary concern. The Dental Hygienist assesses the oral health of the patient, teaches patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies, removes hard and soft deposits from all surfaces and applies preventive materials to the teeth while maintaining policies and procedures consistent with the Family Health Center.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Utilizes the dental hygiene process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate comprehensive patient care.
Performs clinical procedures as directed by dentist(s), in accordance with applicable policies and procedures, to provide appropriate diagnostic and preventative oral hygiene care to patients.
Documents appropriate details in the patient's electronic dental records to guarantee the correct information is documented.
Assesses and addresses patient education need to promote patient self-management.
Performs customer service in person and by phone to address the concerns and to meet the needs of our patients.
Participates in quality improvement activities to promote quality oral health care.
Performs routine maintenance of dental instruments and equipment to ensure equipment is operating properly and is safe for patient care.
Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position.
Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform within scope, role specific functions.
EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: Associate's degree in dental Hygiene.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required: An unrestricted Wisconsin Registered Dental Hygiene License. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. (Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3 months of hire.) Local anesthetic State of Wisconsin Certification.

Key Responsibilities:
* Dental Hygiene Treatments and Oral Evaluations: Perform standard dental hygiene treatments, oral evaluations, and preventive dental health education, ensuring brief examination by a licensed dentist at each visit.
* Radiography and Imaging: Take, develop, mount, and file dental radiographs, ensuring adherence to departmental standards for quality and readability, and checking image quality before re-taking.
* Patient Education and Communication: Educate patients, parents, and caregivers about dental procedures, post-care treatment, and long-term oral care, modifying instructions to suit age levels as necessary.
* Patient Record Management: Review and annotate patient oral, medical, family, and social history; chart teeth and conditions in the electronic dental record as directed.
* Environment and Instrumentation: Ensure a clean and safe environment for patient care, handle sterile instruments as per standard procedures, and document and enter charges for procedures performed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
Associates degree: Dental Hygiene from an accredited dental hygiene program.
License/Certification:
Current Massachusetts license as a Registered Dental Hygienist R.D.H.
CPR certification required
Experience:
One year of full time experience in pediatric dentistry
The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.

The Dental Hygienist works in conjunction with a dentist to meet the oral health needs of patients, while keeping the patient's care, comfort and safety as the primary concern. The Dental Hygienist assesses the oral health of the patient, teaches patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies, removes hard and soft deposits from all surfaces and applies preventive materials to the teeth while maintaining policies and procedures consistent with the Family Health Center.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Utilizes the dental hygiene process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate comprehensive patient care.
Performs clinical procedures as directed by dentist(s), in accordance with applicable policies and procedures, to provide appropriate diagnostic and preventative oral hygiene care to patients.
Documents appropriate details in the patient's electronic dental records to guarantee the correct information is documented.
Assesses and addresses patient education need to promote patient self-management.
Performs customer service in person and by phone to address the concerns and to meet the needs of our patients.
Participates in quality improvement activities to promote quality oral health care.
Performs routine maintenance of dental instruments and equipment to ensure equipment is operating properly and is safe for patient care.
Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position.
Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform within scope, role specific functions.
EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: Associate's degree in dental Hygiene.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required: An unrestricted Wisconsin Registered Dental Hygiene License. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. (Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3 months of hire.) Local anesthetic State of Wisconsin Certification.
