ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The four elements described below outline what CMU Partners refers to as the CARE model. Each employed physician provider may have a different proportion of his or her duties allocated to each of the elements. Additionally, the specific duties within each element may be justifiably unique respective to the demands of the department.
C = Clinical
Staff privileges at member hospitals as appropriate will be maintained with academic work rounds and attending rounds. Will be engaged in providing quality education in a clinical environment, serving diverse patients, including the medically underserved and low-income population.
a. Provide clinical supervision, in conjunction with other faculty, for resident clinics, and in-patient settings including evaluation of residents in the hospitals.
Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment for specified patient population.
Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions.
Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
Provide applicable clinical supervision, performance, and rounding of residents and medical students. These responsibilities may include but are not limited to providing appropriate learning experiences for both residents and students.
Supervise medical students who may be taken on electives and inpatient services.

Faculty will aid in the planning and implementation of training and educational programs in or relating to their Program, which are under the aegis of CMU Partners, including clinics, outpatient services, office-based programs, other community services, and also assist in the evaluation of such programs.
Assists with the annual curriculum for conferences and monitors resident and/or medical student presentations at the conferences, for both the Clinic and member hospitals.
Maintains access to all patients admitted to any of the services of the department; staffs resident teaching rounds; directs CME; and aids in the identification and utilization of available community resources in the Training Program of the department.
Lectures on relevant topics at routine conferences, Grand Rounds topics and other conferences as are educationally required for the residency program.
Assist the program in the evaluation of residents at all phases of training.
Participates in clerkship student conferences during each rotation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
a. Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
b. Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care.
c. Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage.
d. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
e. Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services in area of medical expertise.
f. Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
g. Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise.
h. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
i. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
a. Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
b. Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
c. Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience - Board-certified/board-eligible Family Medicine. The position includes participation in education efforts.
Licensure
Must possess and be able to obtain licensure and certification as required by applicable law and accrediting organizations.
Shall maintain medical staff appointments at participating institutions.
Must fulfill the requirements for and obtain a faculty appointment with the applicable department of CMED.

Provide medical care to patients with acute medical problems, chronic illness, or requesting preventive health services. Evaluates, diagnoses, treats and makes appropriate use of diagnostic testing and consultation. ?
Determines need for consultation and assists in medical care and treatment provided at the direction of other specialists. Participate in other care procedures according to training and demonstrated ability.
Prescribes and assesses effectiveness of pharmaceuticals, other medications and treatment regimens as appropriate for patient medical conditions.
Provide evening clinic and Saturday clinic coverage according to a schedule approved by the Medical Director. Participates in after hour call and hospital coverage on a rotating basis according to the schedule assigned by the Medical Director.
