Position Summary:

Compensation for this specialty generally ranges from $226,000 to $366,000. Valley Family Medicine opened in 1985 and is a member of the University of Washington Family Medicine Residency Network, a network of 30+ family medicine residency programs in the 5 state WWAMI region of the Pacific Northwest. The residency focuses on training graduates in full spectrum family medicine skills including obstetrics. Our sponsoring hospital is a public district hospital, Valley Medical Center, which is an affiliate of the University of WashingtonMedicine system (UW Medicine). Our core faculty physician group includes family physicians, family physicians with surgical obstetrics, an internal medicine, and medicine-pediatric physician. Core responsibilities of the faculty position include inpatient and outpatient patient care and teaching duties including obstetrics. The family medicine residency clinic is located on-site at Valley Medical Center which allows the training program to have a “Clinic First” focus. The residency is an 8-8-8 unopposed program and is fully accredited by the ACGME.

Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July - June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
The base salary range for this position will be: $15,000 - $19,000 per month ($180,000 - $228,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization. Other compensation associated with this position may include incentives through the UW Physicians practice plan.

Position Description
This position expects that the faculty hired will participate in departmental activities for the Department of Family Medicine, while their clinical work will be focused on palliative care. They are expected to participate in the teaching mission of the Department, especially as it relates to their clinical work and expertise. This position is funded by clinical revenue.
Their clinical work will include providing inpatient palliative care consultation for the UW Medicine Palliative Care Service, which potentially includes activities at 3 hospital sites (University Washington Medical Center - Montlake and Northwest hospitals and Harborview Medical Center).
Clinical duties will include palliative care consultation to medical teams, patients and families, nursing and social services, and spiritual care staff. The candidate chosen will be responsible for providing palliative care independently and collaboratively with appropriate privileges, including initial and ongoing assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patient's medical, physical and psychosocial status. The successful candidate is also expected to teach, mentor and advise residents, fellows and medical students.
Other duties expected of a successful candidate includes teaching and services aligned with the academic mission of University of Washington, commensurate with rank. Additionally, they will be expected to work on academic research and projects mutually agreed upon with the director of the palliative care service in non-clinical work hours.
Applicants are required to have an MD, DO, or foreign equivalent with current certification by the American Board of Family Medicine.
