The Child Life Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing a comprehensive Child Life Program that promotes the developmental well-being of children, adolescents, and their families. This role focuses on minimizing psychological trauma during medical treatments and maintaining normal living patterns. As a key member of the healthcare team, the Child Life Specialist fosters an environment that encourages mastery through play, learning, self-expression, family involvement, and peer interaction. Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, Child Life, or a related field.
Internship: Completed an internship under the supervision of a certified Child Life Specialist.
Certification: Eligible for Professional Child Life Certification upon hire; Certification from the Child Life Certification Commission (CLCC) as a Certified Child Life Specialist within 18 months of hire. A minimum of two attempts to pass the exam are required within the first year of hire.

Your Job as a Substance Use Counselor:
The Substance Use Counselor is instrumental in our patient's treatment and recovery from opioid use disorder. Substance Use Counselors provide high quality, compassionate care through various mediums which include both individual and group counseling sessions.
Job Responsibilities:
Provide high quality, compassionate guidance in both individual and group counseling sessions.
Plan, oversee, facilitate and document patient's recovery.
Co-facilitate assigned group or family sessions as needed.

Position Overview
The Families First Home Visitor works with families using a strength-based and solution-focused approach to promote positive parent-child relationships, support healthy childhood growth and development, enhance parenting skills, promote safety and well-being, and connect families with their community. The Families First Home Visitor reports to the regional Public Health/Community Team manager and in conjunction with the Public Health Nurse who provides reflective supervision and coordination for guidance in regional day-to-day operations.
Families First is a community-based resource designed to promote healthy growth and development of children by supportingfamilies, in their homes, during pregnancy and the first five years of a child's life, for a period of up to three years. A Families First Home Visitor works as a member of an inter-disciplinary team and is responsible to initiate and maintain regular connection through family-centered home visiting. The incumbent will utilize an evidence-informed curriculum and share activities that support positive parent-child interactions. In consultation and with guidance from Public Health Nurses, the Home Visitor has a responsibility to supportfamilies to explore goals related to their family's culture and values. The Home Visitor implements home visiting practices according to established guidelines of the provincial Families First Program. Job Summary:
Supervises residents and ensures them a safe and secure environment. Activities include processing resident intakes and discharges, supervising recreational activities, teaching proper hygiene and conduct, monitoring resident behavior, intervening in crisis situations and documenting incidents and resident interaction.

Supervises residents to ensure compliance with facility rules. Addresses noncompliant behavior by coaching and teaching approved theory and therapy techniques. Support youth with emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
Processes resident intake. Documents all required resident personal information. Conducts personal searches of residents. Logs all resident personal items and stores any items not allowed in the detention center away from residents until they are no longer living at the detention center. Orients new residents and parents to the facility; explaining the philosophy, policies, procedures and program rules.
Education and Experience:
Two years of college (30 semester hours) towards a social science or human services related degree is required OR High School Diploma / GED Equivalent with two years of work experience in a child / adolescent care facility or closely related setting.
Bachelor's degree in a social science or human services field is preferred.
Current unencumbered Michigan Driver's License with no more than one traffic violation in the last 12 months.

The Families Together Building Solutions (FTBS) Program is a short-term, in-home strength based solution-focused counseling, family preservation program for children and families referred by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Families have multiple problems and are in need of consistent and ongoing services which will enable them to significantly improve family functioning. The FTBS Program will provide a wide range of moderately intensive, solution-focused services to the family. Services take place in the family home. The FTBS Program provides up to 90 days of services, with an extension up to an additional 90 days. Assists in the development of service plans and coordinates services with the DHHS referring worker.
Hourly Wage: $17.31-$20.06

Essentials Duties and Responsibilities
Provide In-home strength based training and education services to children and parents.
Develops Service plans for families in collaboration with referral source
Develops emergency and safety plans for families of crisis or risk at harm to children
Completes necessary documentation and follow ups
Participates in sessions, reviews and meetings

Recommended Employment Qualifications
Education:
A Bachelor's Degree in human services or related field is required. A Master's Degree in social work preferred.
Experience:
A minimum of one year of field experience with children and families with multiple problems and the overall ability to relate to and engage with the families.

Scope of Work

Responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating individual and group child life services provided to patients through Helen DeVos Children's Hospital (HDVCH) in a manner which promotes age appropriate growth and development. Provides diversional and therapeutic play activities and collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to provide an integrated approach.
Qualifications
* Required Bachelor's Degree child life, child development, child psychology, early childhood education, recreational therapy or related degree
* Completion of a 600-hour Child Life Internship Required to qualify
* Certification as Child Life Specialist (CCLS) - CLCC through the Child Life Certification Commission, Required within 1 Year (preferred upon hire)
* AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days

Facilitates treatment planning, supports case direction, and collaborates with the treatment team to ensure high-quality care.
Conduct assessments, create behavior plans, and case reviews for children and caregivers.
Work collaboratively with Foster Care Workers, EFC team, and Child Welfare supervisors.
Ensure treatment plans are implemented effectively, and services are appropriately utilized.
Maintain a caseload of up to 12 children.
Ensure that all services and documentation are completed within the required timelines.
Conduct visits in approved locations such as the child's residence, parental home, CCWM office, CASA house, school, respite placements, or community settings.
Use Together Facing the Challenge, skill-building interventions; monitor child safety, support parenting skills; and build rapport
Provide immediate outreach and stabilization efforts during crises, including hospitalization, AWOL return, abuse/neglect allegations, severe behavioral escalation, and suicidal/homicidal ideation.
Develop actionable plans and adjust goals as needed based on progress and emerging priorities.
Maintain regular communication with therapists, community mental health, teachers, court-appointed special advocates, juvenile probation officers, medical providers, and other professionals.
Utilize in-office and community resources to support skill-building and emotional regulation.
Integrate creative, developmentally appropriate behavior strategies into sessions to support engagement, regulation, and positive outcomes.
Provides assessment, coping skills and case reviews to children and caregiver
Provides training to caregivers and staff specific to child's behavioral and mental health needs.
Completes and submits required reports and documents as required.
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Completes work in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Division of Child Welfare, Department of Health and Human Services, and CARF.
Refer appropriate behavioral health and mental health services to children and families. Collaborates with behavioral and mental health providers to ensure appropriate care for clients.
Transports kids as needed for agency business.
Performs duties to support Foster Care staff as needed.
Regularly attend supervision, staff, program, training, and agency meetings.
Drives for Agency business.
Performs other special assignments at the supervisor's request.
Recommended Employment Qualifications
Education:
A Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or a Human Service-related field is required.
A Master's Degree in social work, sociology, psychology or a human service related area as specified by state regulations is preferred.
Experience:
At least two (2) years experience working in Child Welfare, Family systems or in an Education Interventionalist role; along with experience in assessment and treatment planning is required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Professional State of Michigan License preferred
