As a Behavior Specialist 1:1, you'll play a vital role in shaping the success of an assigned student or students by providing direct, individualized implementation of positive behavior intervention and support, tailoring approach to their unique learning needs. This position always focuses first on proactive strategies when working with challenging behaviors and is immediately available to respond to crisis situations with the ability to de-escalate students using CPI strategies, behavioral contracts and interventions documented in the student's behavioral intervention plan, if applicable.
‖ Responsibilities Include:
Implementing targeted, individual behavior interventions to enhance positive academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and independent outcomes for assigned student(s).
Reinforcing positive student behavior, skillfully redirecting negative behaviors, and modeling effective behavioral strategies for staff.
Maintaining accurate and comprehensive records related to student behavior strategies (SBS) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
Collecting, analyzing, and charting behavioral data to effectively monitor student progress and inform instructional practices in collaboration with IEP teams.
Providing practical support and guidance to classroom staff in monitoring individual student behaviors and implementing effective class-wide behavior management systems.
Applying applied behavior analysis principles under the direction of a board-certified behavior analyst to improve student outcomes and proactively address disruptive behaviors.
Conducting detailed behavioral observations essential for developing functional behavior assessments and creating individualized behavior intervention plans.
Assisting teachers with preparation and execution of instructional activities, supervising students, and supporting classroom management tasks.
Providing responsive and effective crisis intervention by promptly employing de-escalation techniques, prioritizing safety, and acting as a first responder to minimize disruptions to instruction and school operations.
Completing thorough documentation of behavioral incidents and related reports, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with organizational policies.
Adhering strictly to universal precautions and emergency protocols, including CPR, First Aid, and procedures for blood-borne pathogens.
Identifying, reporting, and addressing potential safety hazards, actively contributing to the site's safety committee.
Actively attending and participating in team meetings, clinical supervision, staff meetings, teacher collaboration sessions, and strategic planning initiatives.
Participating in professional development opportunities to stay informed about current behavioral principles, strategies, and educational policies.
Assisting in supervising students during school-related activities, including field trips, bus duties, lunch supervision, playground monitoring, and transportation support as necessary.
Performing additional duties and special projects as assigned to promote continuous program excellence and organizational improvement.
‖ Qualifications Required:
Associate's degree or higher in behavioral sciences or a closely related field of study.
Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining a registered behavior technician (RBT), paraprofessional or related credential.
Ability to obtain and maintain certification in company approved crisis management (PCM) training.
Prior experience working with children, preferably in an alternative, special education and/or behavioral health program setting.
Highly skilled in working with individuals with severe learning disabilities, behavioral disorders and/or emotional disturbance.
Prior experience and/or knowledge in positive behavior intervention and support (PBIS), functional behavior analysis (FBA) and behavior intervention plans (BIP's) highly preferred.
Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency situation and make independent decisions.
Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students that help move them toward realistic goals.

Summary of Duties
This position involves professional, administrative, problem solving and customer service work. This person will assist litigants to understand the judicial process and provide direction in the completion of court documents. A major part of this person's work will be to help litigants identify issues to be resolved and facilitate the discussion and resolution of issues presented.
The person filling this position will assist the judge and magistrate by ensuring cases and/or litigants are prepared for hearing; ensure that the court is accessible to the pro se litigant; identify cases that require judicial attention; work with the judge to arrange alternative dispute resolution, evaluations, supervised parental contact and other services needed by families.
This person will conduct settlement or status conferences on child support, parentage, child contact matters and property and debt issues for divorce and civil unions. These conferences will facilitate settlement in cases where there is substantial agreement or narrow the issues for hearing where there is not.
The incumbent must maintain an understanding and working knowledge of the various statutes, administrative policies, rules and procedures related to family court operations and must maintain an effective working relationship with members of the legal profession and social service agencies in the community.
This person will process cases, schedule cases, file court documents, docket their cases as needed, keep records of court proceedings, monitor statistics and perform related duties as necessary.
Scheduled hours of work generally conform to public court hours, but assignments may extend beyond those hours to assist litigants and to meet with community organizations. Occasional travel to other courts within the State of Vermont may be required. Travel will be reimbursed according to State policies. POSITION OBJECTIVES: To assist and supervise assigned special education students with intensive behavioral needs instructionally,emotionally and behaviorally in a classroom and community setting. To implement students' individual educational programs and behavioral plans in a school based program AND in the inclusive general inclusion program (when applicable), individually, and in a small or whole group setting. To play a supportive role in assessing the progress and needs of assigned students, and participate in developing and modifying individualized behavioral and instructional programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Under the direction of a professional, intensive specialist paraeducators will:
Participate in specialized trainings provided by the school district or otherwise required.
Adapt classroom material/methods as appropriate to meet the needs of students, in consultation with the classroom and/or special education teacher.
Participate in various community activities and field trips with students.
Assist in the administration of informal assessments to determine student progress and/or level of achievement.
Assist in developing, compiling, and organizing instructional materials, under the direction of the classroom teacher or special educator.

Implement and practice behavior support plans and programs for and with students. Assist and/or instruct students in basic life and functional skills.
Supervise student(s) in various settings.
Implement or assist in implementing a variety of assistive and medical therapy, as directed. These may include, but are not limited to, respiratory therapy, physical and occupational therapy, speech therapy, and administering medications as needed under the direction of the school nurse.
Keep detailed data on student progress in academic, social-emotional, functional, and behavioral realms.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Direct to moderate technical supervision is received from a special education teacher. General supervision is received from the school principal, director of special education services, and/or the director of multi-tiered systems of support. Performs many duties independently.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No formal supervisory duties. May train, assist, and occasionally direct junior co-workers and parent volunteers, but generally works along with those persons.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, in addition to the following:
Education and Experience. A Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field is preferred. One year of directly relevant experience in a school setting is desirable. Good working knowledge of children. Knowledge of children with disabilities and special education teaching methods preferred.
