Fargo Public Schools company history timeline

1872

The first school session in Fargo was held in the summer of 1872 (reportedly in a log cabin in the vicinity of what is now Island Park). Mercy Nelson (age 15) was the teacher.

Growing from that first school session in Fargo in the summer of 1872, Fargo's school district now serves about 11,675 students and employs 1,200 people including 750 teachers.

1894

1990

In the North Dakota 1990 census,people,when asked if they thought their ethnic heritage was important to them, 93.5% answered yes.

1993

The groundwork and concept of the Fargo Public Schools Development Foundation was originally approved in 1993 through action of the Board of Education.

2000

The Foundation received its 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status in December of 2000.
