Job DescriptionExperienced Agriculture Workers Specializing in Grapes We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Agriculture Workers with a specialization in wine grape viticulture to join our team. This position is responsible for the manual and mechanical labor involved in cultivating, maintaining, and harvesting our vineyards. The ideal candidates will have hands-on experience, a strong work ethic and will be passionate about producing high-quality fruit.
Key Responsibilities
Perform a variety of vineyard tasks throughout the entire growing cycle, including pruning, suckering, thinning, leaf pulling, and canopy management.
Assist with the installation and maintenance of trellis and irrigation systems.
Operate and perform basic maintenance on vineyard equipment, such astractors, mowers, and sprayers.
Implement pest and disease management programs and assist with the application of fertilizers and other treatments.
Monitor vine health and fruit development, assisting the Vineyard Manager or
Viticulturist with data collection and record-keeping.
Actively participate in the grape harvest, including hand-picking and machineoperation, ensuring the grapes are handled with care
Maintain safety standards and protocols in all vineyard operations.
Assist with general vineyard and grounds maintenance tasks as needed.
Qualifications
Proven work experience in a vineyard, farm, or orchard setting, with a focus on wine grapes preferred.
Knowledge of viticulture practices, including canopy management, and pruning techniques.
Experience operating tractors and other vineyard machinery.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively with a team.
Physical stamina and ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions, including heat and cold.
Ability to lift and move heavy objects (e.g., 50+ pounds) frequently.
A valid driver's license is required.
Effective communication skills.

There are currently multiple vacancies for Field Worker I in the Energy Resources, Transportation, and Water Resources Departments (Water Collection and Water Distribution Assignments); however, this recruitment will also be used to create a Citywide list to fill possible future vacancies in all departments and assignments.
The Energy Resources, Transportation, and Water Resources Departments are excited to offer a hiring bonus for individuals newly hired as a Field Worker I. New Field Workers may be eligible for a $2,500 incentive at the conclusion of Initial City Probation. To receive the bonus, a Field Worker I must work as a Field Worker for one year in the original hire assignment and receive a successful performance evaluation.

A Field Worker I learns to perform and performs the full scope of duties of a Field Worker II through on-the-job training involving a variety of general manual labor and equipment-assisted construction and maintenance tasks. Field Worker I's assist Field Worker II's and Equipment Operators in one of the following based on area of assignment: the construction, maintenance, and repair of the City's gas utility distribution systems; maintenance and repair of City streets, storm drainage systems, parkways, and rights-of-way; or the construction, maintenance, and repairs of the City's water and wastewater utility systems. Work is primarily associated with the repair and preventive maintenance in one of the areas noted above.
Incumbents learn to operate basic construction equipment with limited complexity and may also operate motor vehicles. Equipment and vehicles will vary by assignment and include, but are not limited to, a dump truck, asphalt roller, frontend loader, boring equipment, combination vactor/jetter truck, crane truck, backhoe, and pick-up truck under constant supervision. Employees in this class learn to operate hand-held power equipment such as jackhammers, tampers, blowers, mechanical and hydraulic saws, etc. Work is often performed under adverse weather conditions and may entail working in close proximity to heavy traffic.
The work performed by a Field Worker I is physically demanding, and employees must be capable of frequent lifting and carrying of heavy equipment and materials (50 pounds or more) involving considerable bending, stooping, and climbing associated with construction and maintenance work. An employee in this class is required to use appropriate safety equipment and follow safety procedures in performing assignments. This class is subject to frequent emergency call-out and incumbents must be willing to work scheduled stand-by and overtime on nights, weekends, and/or holidays as required. This class is responsible for performing related duties as required.
The Field Worker I class is distinguished from the Field Worker II class in that the former is an entry-level classification that works under close supervision with on-the-job training. Supervision is received from a crew leader, foreman, or supervisor who reviews work through on-site observation of work in progress and completed projects. This class is FLSA nonexempt.

Must possess a valid Arizona Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) by hire or promotion date with no airbrake restriction, tanker endorsement for Transportation Assignment and Water Resources Assignment. CLP holders must successfully complete the City's Entry Level Driver (ELD) training program, the Third Party Examiner (TPE) administered skills (driving) test, and obtain a valid Arizona Class A CDL within 150 days of hire or promotion date.
Energy Resources Assignment: Must be able to obtain through the City of Mesa an Operator Qualification in accordance with 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 192 within one year of hire date.
Water Resources Assignments: Must meet the qualifications to wear a tight-fitting respirator by passing a medical evaluation in accordance with CFR 1910.134 by hire or promotion date and must maintain certification. Wastewater Collection Assignment: Must obtain a Grade I (or higher) Wastewater Collection Operator certification from Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) within one year of hire or promotion date. Water Distribution Assignment: Must obtain a Grade I (or higher) Water Distribution Operator certification from ADEQ within one year of hire or promotion date.
Substance Abuse Testing. This class is subject to Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) drug and alcohol testing as outlined in 49 CFR Part 382.
Energy Resources Assignment: This class is subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing as outlined in 49 CFR Part 199 for the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) AND Part 382 for the FMCSA.
