    Farm Worker Part Time - Hourly At Hormel Foods, base pay is one part of our total compensation package. The base hiring pay for this role is $20.45 per hour. Purpose of Position: General labor to assist Farm Manager and Farm Assistant Manager in achieving required work goals. This includes, but is not limited to, daily chores, running machinery and equipment, and handle and care for live turkeys. This position will require light paperwork, some math skills, walking on uneven surfaces frequently, lifting, twist, bending and squatting frequently and varying temperature environments. Principle Accountabilities: Help perform daily chores as assigned by farm management. Assist with maintaining litter for optimal conditions for turkeys. Record daily information in flock books for record keeping. Operate machinery and equipment when required. Follow all safety protocols and guidelines - wearing all required PPE ( safety glasses, respiratory equipment, etc). Follow all Live Production processes and procedures. Follow all biosecurity guidelines, including, but not limited to, showering before work each day, not wearing personal shoes on farm, using company provided boots on farm and in barns, wearing provided scrubs/coveralls in barns. Perform other duties as instructed and assigned by management. Handle and care for live turkeys in accordance with established animal welfare guidelines. Have open communication with fellow employees and farm management. Conduct self in a positive, team oriented manner. Minimum Qualification: Must have reliable means of transportation to and from assigned farm. Good previous attendance records (school and/or previous employment). Able to work 7 days/week with some varied hours and with some weekends and holidays. Possess a level of math, reading, and writing skills necessary to successfully perform record keeping task required of the position. Able to lift up to 35 lbs from floor to waist height frequently, with occasional lifts from floor to full extension. Able to wear eye and respiratory protection equipment on a continuous basis. Able to walk on uneven surfaces. Preferred qualifications: Valid drivers license. High school diploma, or actively enrolled in high school, or equivalent. The Opportunity: We're seeking a Farm Equipment Operator & Maintenance Technician to join our team supporting native seed operations. This hands-on, farm-based role is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys solving mechanical challenges, operating a wide range of agricultural equipment, and contributing to mission-driven work in the field. You'll play a vital role in maintaining and operating equipment used throughout the seed production cycle - from planting and weed control to harvesting and seed cleaning. Your mechanical skills, attention to detail, and ability to adapt will help ensure successful, efficient operations. Much of our equipment has been fabricated or modified in-house, requiring operators to be quick learners with a sharp eye for mechanical quirks and the confidence to troubleshoot in the field. What You Will Do: Operate diverse agricultural equipment: Run tractors, combines, skid-loaders, mowers, and self-propelled sprayers to support core seed production activities including planting, weed management, harvesting, and spraying. Perform routine and preventative maintenance: Conduct daily inspections, grease fittings, monitor fluid levels, and address wear-and-tear issues to keep machines field-ready and reduce downtime. Diagnose and repair mechanical issues: Troubleshoot problems in real-time and perform basic repairs to restore functionality quickly and safely. Support equipment fabrication and modification: Use your skills in metalworking and welding to adapt or build attachments and equipment to fit our specific production needs. What You Will Need To Be Successful: Proven experience operating equipment such as tractors, skid loaders, combines, or similar farm/construction machinery; ability to independently operate at least a tractor and skid loader is . Mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with general equipment upkeep, diagnostics, and basic repair; welding or fabrication skills are a strong plus. Proficiency in at least one of the following: equipment operation, equipment maintenance/repair, or welding/fabrication - with a willingness to cross-train in others. Comfortable using hand and power tools; able to troubleshoot and adapt in dynamic field or shop environments. Willing to obtain a commercial pesticide applicator license; familiarity with herbicide application is helpful. Strong problem-solving skills, clear communication, and a collaborative, team-first mindset. Able to lift up to 50lbs. and work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
