    Assist the Farm Supervisor and Farm Manager in supporting research operations at the Delta Research and Extension Center. Operate all types of farm equipment to conduct field operations involved in supporting agricultural research on cotton, corn, wheat, soybeans, and rice. For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department. Department Profile: This position is located at the Delta Research and Extension Center in Stoneville, MS. Area of Specialization: Farm Crew Anticipated Appointment Date: November 2024. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Conduct field routines such as spraying, weighing, measuring, counting, handling soil, planting, and growing plants under standard operating procedures. 2. Prepare land for planting crops. 3. Assist in field operations such as hand hoeing, field maintenance, inventory, and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Perform general cleanup of equipment and facilities as requested. 4. Handle, mix, and apply pesticides in fields to ensure standard operating procedures are followed. 5. Mark, measure, and lay out crop fields for planting. 6. Operate equipment including cotton picker, combine, and tractor using various farm implements. 7. Perform other necessary duties as assigned by the supervisor. Minimum Qualifications: Education: High school diploma. Experience: Six months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified AND six months of general experience. Substitution: An equivalent combination of related education and related experience may be considered for this position. Licensures: 1. Valid driver's license. 2. Must obtain a Certified Pesticide Applicators Certificate within 90 days of employment or complete the worker/handler training, whichever is applicable. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to operate farm equipment. Knowledge of crops. Working Conditions and Physical Effort 1. Ability to work in extreme weather conditions. 2. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
