Farmingdale State College company history timeline
The State University of New York at Farmingdale was founded in 1912.
The Director's Cottage was built in 1914.
Ward Hall, also constructed in 1914, was the original dormitory and now houses College offices, including Alumni Relations and Business Outreach.
1916, March--The first students arrive on campus, approximately 60 in number.
When the college first admitted students in March 1916, Ward Hall was not yet completed.
The school did not formally open until Fall of 1916.*
1919--The first class of graduates, numbering 15.
During the 1920's, the school grew under the leadership of Directors Johnson and Knapp.
A Memorial Oak was planted on June 4, 1921, to honor American soldiers killed in World War I. The Oak was planted in soil collected from all 48 states as well as from the allied nations from the war.
Thompson Hall, named after Senator George Thompson, was built in 1938.
In 1946, the college expanded from an agricultural college to encompass the industrial and technology programs.
In 1948, Long Island Ag & Tech became one of the founding SUNY schools.
Student enrollment continued to grow during the 1950's.
