Farnsworth Group is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer of HVAC/Building Systems to be based out of our Peoria, Lisle, Champaign, Tinley Park or Normal, IL offices. In this role, you will assume multi-project responsibilities for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and specialty piping system engineering and design for buildings including healthcare, commercial, industrial, and educational facilities. This role is one that can be entrepreneurial and grow into more responsibility via mentoring from more experienced engineers and is supported by a great team of engineers and drafters. It is client-facing and reports to a senior engineering manager, who will also provide mentoring and training opportunities to help you grow. Job Activities:
Prepare accurate HVAC, plumbing, controls, and specialty piping system construction drawings, including specifications.
Perform construction administration, including submittal reviews and project revisions during construction.
Prepare preliminary schematics through final designs for projects, including calculations, equipment selection, and layouts.
Actively engage in and assume responsibility for code research and application.
Interface with other disciplines, clients, and contractors, leading projects to successful completion
Provide leadership, mentoring, and coordination of the production staff.
Assist in maintaining project design budgets and schedules while pursuing quality results.
Perform quality control reviews of HVAC and plumbing design work done by others.
Assist in business development activities, including writing fee proposals and conducting project scoping walks with potential clients.
Specific Requirements include:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering
10+ years of professional experience in HVAC and plumbing design for buildings.
A Professional Engineering License (PE) is required.
Prior management or mentoring of staff required.
Design experience relative to medium/large commercial and institutional facilities
Strong familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite
Experience with Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, or similar
Strong and communicative team player in a multi-disciplinary environment, able to fully lead projects from start to finish.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to contribute to several projects simultaneously.

Position Overview
We currently have an opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Champaign, IL. The ME Team serves public sector clients with planning, design, and construction services for architectural (building systems) and municipal infrastructure projects (water & wastewater). Projects include the design of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection & security systems for public facilities including residence halls, offices, police & fire stations, and water & wastewater treatment plants.
Primary Responsibilities
Executes planning and design tasks including computations, analysis and modeling for facility rehabilitations and water/wastewater infrastructure projects.
Applies engineering principals, applicable standards (ASHRAE, NFP, Etc.) and building and industrial codes to develop and evaluate solutions.
Performs assessment and specification of mechanical equipment for public facilities, utilities and industrial applications.
Creates drawings, plan sheets and models following the company's design standards and utilizing the designated CAD or modeling software.
Assists with the preparation of technical reports, plans, specifications, and supporting documents.
Provides guidance to less experienced staff and assists with their development through project task assignments and regular feedback.
Performs QA/QC at various project/submittal stages.

Requirements
B.S. degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering (M emphasis) from an ABET accredited institution, EIT is desired.
4+ years of experience with assessment, design and layout of building mechanical and control systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection)
Experience with interpreting and developing complex architectural drawings and 3D models and performing calculations to support design decisions.
Experience with MS Office, Revit, Trane Load/Trace or Carrier/Hap are required, or similar modeling tools are required.
Ability to work independently and collaborate with other staff across offices and other disciplines to complete projects on-time and within budget.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to draft technical memos/reports and present recommendations in a logical manner.
A valid driver's license to visit project sites and attend meetings is required.

This position will be based out of our Chicago office with WFH flexibility and designated office days. The Team Leader manages projects and staff and serves as a technical lead for one of the MEP disciplines (mechanical, electrical or plumbing). The MEP Team serves clients with planning, design, and construction services for architectural and municipal infrastructure projects. Key Responsibilities
Provides technical leadership and project management for MEP engineering projects and is accountable for project performance and quality deliverables.
Leads or assists with the development of project scope, budget and schedule and any subsequent fee negotiations or contract amendments.
Manages project tasks, defines design criteria and performs or delegates project tasks as needed.
Collaborates with other teams (Civil, Transportation, Structural) on projects requiring MEP design services.
Monitors task assignments and deadlines and ensures QC/QA processes are implemented and followed for assigned projects.
Actively supports the development of MEP staff by delegating and explaining tasks, providing guidance and reviewing work.

Requirements

Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards for MEP designs (ASHRAE, NEC, NFP, etc.).
Demonstrated project management experience including development of scope, schedule, and budget with accountability for project financial performance.

Farnsworth Group is seeking an Entry-Level Engineer in one of the below posting locations. In this role, you will work with experienced engineers on telecommunications and utility projects. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and experience in the utility engineering industry.
Posting Locations for this role: Frisco, TX, Lisle, IL, or St. Louis, MO
Job Activities:
* Support telecommunication and utility related project development
* Complete site visits including but not limited to surveying, locating, and documenting existing conditions (may include overnight travel depending on job location)
* Review roadway plans to identify conflicts with existing utilities
* Design telecommunications and other utility projects using MicroStation, AutoCAD, or other design software
Specific Requirements include:
* BS in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, from an ABET accredited institution
* 0-2 years of experience
* Exposure to transportation plans, telecommunications, or utilities a plus
* Engineer in Training (EIT) certification a plus
* Computer proficiency with MS Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project
* Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation a plus
* Must demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills
* Must be willing to travel and have a valid driver's license

In this role, you will be focused on the planning, design, and management of various civil engineering projects including water/wastewater/stormwater and transportation projects for local and government agencies. Plan, design, complete and manage a variety of municipal and some private owner driven civil engineering projects from inception to completion.
Prepare and develop construction, design documents and plans.
Collaborate with other Farnsworth Group disciplines and consultants.
Occasional project, city staff and board meetings.
Communicate planning objectives for clients current and future projects.
Prepare project proposals. Assist with business development efforts and development of projects.
Interaction with IDOT, IEPA, County, MWRD, and understanding of project submittals.
Team leader and mentoring younger engineers.
Manage, support, and build relationships with clients and agencies.
Conduct project field observation and condition assessments.
Specific Requirements include:
BS or MS in Civil Engineering.
8 - 15 years of related civil engineering experience.
Professional Engineer (PE) or actively seeking licensure.
Certified Floodplain Manager a plus.
Federal, State, local regulatory authorities, IDOT experience.
Experience working with municipal and private clients.
IDOT - MFT project experience a plus.
Sanitary sewer, water line and storm water management design experience a plus.
AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GeoPak, SS4, MicroStation or OpenRoads experience.
Team experience with multiple ongoing projects.
Contract development skills.
