Farrel Pomini company history timeline

1848

Farrel was founded in 1848 as a foundry by Almon Farrel.

1857

In 1857, following Almon Farrel's death, it became the Farrel Foundry & Machine Co., under the leadership of Almon's son, Franklin Farrel, who would remain as president for some decades.

1886

Pomini was founded in 1886, originally manufacturing and reconditioning equipment used in cotton manufacturing.

1926

In 1926, Farrel Foundry merged with Birmingham Iron Foundry of Derby, Connecticut.

1941

In 1941, the Navy contracted with Farrel-Birmingham and General Motors to begin manufacturing a rapid reversal gear system that would allow vessels to reverse engines without first slowing down.

1949

In 1949, Pomini began manufacturing equipment for the rubber and plastics industries.

1963

Since introducing the FCM™, Farrel Continuous Mixer in 1963, Farrel has remained at the forefront of new developments and innovations in the polymer processing industry.

In 1963, Farrel Birmingham adopted the current name of Farrel Corporation and began manufacturing process equipment for plastic plants.

1976

Became a division of United Shoe Machinery and was part of the merger of that company with Emhart Corporation in 1976.

1986

In 1986, a group of private equity investors including Rolf Liebergesell, Charles S. Jones and Alberto Shaio, acquired the company from Emhart Corporation (which later merged with Black & Decker) for $1.0 million plus assumption of debt.

1989

The company went through a series of mergers and acquisitions, culminating in a 1989 absorption by Black & Decker Corp.

Emhart Corporation dissolved in 1989 when it merged with Black & Decker Corporation.

1991

By 1991, under the leadership of Al Shaio, head of sales, revenue doubled to $105 million, with $5.4 million in operating income.

2009

In 2009, Farrel was acquired by the HF Machinery Group division of L. Possehl & Co., of Lübeck, Germany.

2010

Harburg-Freudenberger Maschinenbau GmbH, Farrel Corporation, and Pomini Rubber & Plastics Srl integrated to form HF MIXING GROUP in 2010.

2016

In 2016, Farrel built a new facility in Ansonia.
