Primary Duties: Performs Ultrasound examinations in department or at bedside to include chest, abdomen, pelvis, small parts, carotids, neonatal heads, OB/GYN, trans-vaginal, and the prostate in accordance with prescribed protocols utilizing identified scanner and in accordance with policies on Universal Precautions, safety, and waste disposal. Adheres to the policies and procedures that apply to the performance of obtaining ultrasound studies, including performing correct, exam, including laterality, on correct patient at the time requested. Reports initial impressions to the Radiologist and review the images before releasing the patient. Ensures timely completion of all exams through tracking, scanning and other technical workflow as related to Radiology Information System (RIS), Enterprise Radiology Solutions (ERS) and Enterprise Electronic Record (EMR). Provides basic information to patients and/or families concerning procedures to be performed and can answer questions if asked. Coordinates patient flow on assigned unit to maximize productivity. Ensures that patient waiting times are minimized before, during and after the procedure. Coordinates, communicates, and collaborates with Patient Financial Associates that register radiology exams to minimize delays and potential safety issues for the outpatient population. Prepares exam rooms at the beginning of each shift and between assigned cases. Coordinates and collaborates with Technical Aides to ensure efficient room turnover. Assists with the upkeep of ultrasound equipment, adheres to all related safety requirements, and reports any need for equipment repairs. Cleans equipment and work area, wipes down assigned equipment between cases, and stocks and maintains supplies at identified inventory levels. Assists the technical supervisor in the revision, development and implementation of lab policies, in-service programs and continuing educational programs that enhance the individual technologist's performance and skills. Qualifications: Must have completed training in an approved Ultrasound program. As part of their education, candidates must also demonstrate competency in didactic coursework and an ARRT-specified list of clinical procedures by completing competency requirements established for the discipline in which they are seeking certification and registration. ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography) or ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist). Position Summary The PACU/Pre-Op Registered Nurse (RN) delivers safe, evidence-based care for patients undergoing surgical procedures.
