Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking to hire a Sr. Principal System Safety Engineer to its Safety Engineering team. This position is located in Roy, UT or Colorado Springs, CO and will support of the Sentinel (GBSD) program. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force's sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure.
The Sr. Principal System Safety Engineer will influence design for meeting safety expectations and requirements for our Northrop Grumman Products. The successful candidate will independently analyze and recommend design features that meet safety criteria in system design to control or eliminate hazards. The role includes active participation in the design of products/systems, associated support equipment and facilities. The role includes the creation of functional specifications and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems. The tasks includes developing safety documents, as required, to support customer and test/operational range requirements and performing audits of operational areas and reporting on the effectiveness of system safety program. The role includes evaluating the interrelationship of system safety requirements and other aspects of concept design and development requirements to ensure the most cost effective program. The candidate will have extensive expertise in the application of MIL-STD-882E, DO178, DO254, software development, design development, or similar systems engineering experience. The candidate will have experience in generation or review of design artifacts to support System Safety analyses utilized in maturing weapons system design for safety and support flight test and flight worthiness of complex systems.
Basic Qualifications:
8 years of experience with a Bachelors of Science degree,6 years with a Masters, 4 years with a Doctorate degree in science, engineering, applied mathematics, computer
science, aeronautics, safety, or closely related technical discipline
Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as
determined by the company to meet its business need
At least 2 years of using DO-178 or DO-254 for design development
At least 2 years experience with C/C++, Java, object oriented design or similar software development experience
At least 2 years of using MIL-STD-882E to conduct Preliminary, Functional, Subsystem, System, Operating and Support Hazard Analysis
Strong written and verbal communication skills of the English language
Preferred Qualifications:
At least 1 year experience using MIL-STD-882E or similar processes for hardware and /or software design development
Lead a team in software safety processes in Engineering and Manufacturing Development Phase
Experience developing in an Agile environment.
Model Based Systems Engineering experience

Collaborate with chip and platform architecture/design teams to explore and implement DFX features, including the specification and implementation of digital/mixed-signal IP, firmware/system software, and DFX methodology (in partnership with engineering teams).
Partner with hardware health and platform design teams to continuously improve reliability and fault tolerance in NPI and HVM. This includes optimizing operating conditions, designing experiments, and performing data analysis to drive continuous, data-driven improvements across the stack.
Serve as the DFX/reliability champion and evangelist to align the broader industry ecosystem with OpenAI's requirements and roadmap.
Qualifications
BS with 15+ years, MS with 10+ years, or PhD with 3+ years of relevant industry experience focused on reliability across the chip/platform stack.

This Engineer will be part of a team responsible for implementing ARM's next generation of SoC's in the IoT, Automotive, and Compute spaces. Layouts using best-known practices for DFM, DFA, Signal and Power Delivery Networks

Required Skills and Experience:

Facilitate standardization by being aware of the bigger picture, including design features which will drive standardization and improve efficiency throughout the department

Familiarity with EDA vendor collaboration, tool evaluation, and issue resolution
Strong verbal, written communication and presentation skills
Programming experience in Python, SKILL, or TCL Able to optimize design methodologies in packaging design

Description
This role involves the comprehensive bench‑level validation, bring‑up, and characterization of DDR memory interfaces within Apple's cutting‑edge SoCs. You will be responsible for developing and executing electrical tests, automating data collection, and providing crucial design feedback through detailed analysis and reporting. Success in this position requires a hands‑on approach to debugging complex silicon issues and a strong understanding of signal and power integrity measurements.
Responsibilities
Perform hands‑on bench test, bring‑up, and characterization of DDR memory interfaces for complex SoCs.
Develop robust benchtop electrical tests, utilizing various interfaces like FPGA, JTAG, SPI, and analog controls.
Automate test execution, data extraction, and report generation through scripting with database and analytical tools.
Debug complex silicon issues and provide detailed characterization reports with actionable design feedback.
Conduct in‑system Power Integrity (PI) and Signal Integrity (SI) measurements, correlating results with simulation models.
Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams including Design, System Hardware, and Software to ensure seamless integration and validation.
Support ATE and Product Engineering teams for inter‑operability tests and production ramp‑up.
Minimum Qualifications
BS and 10 +years of relevant industry experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's and or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Proven experience in DDR memory validation, characterization, or bring‑up.
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or MATLAB for test automation and data analysis.
Strong hands‑on lab skills with test equipment including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and BERTs.
Deep understanding of signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) concepts and measurement techniques.
Demonstrated ability to debug complex silicon issues and drive root cause analysis.
Experience collaborating effectively with cross‑functional teams (Design, System HW, SW, ATE).
Familiarity with SoC architecture and various on‑chip interfaces (e.g., JTAG, SPI).
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
