Fauquier County company history timeline

1808

In 1823 the new jail was opened, but not before they added an addition to the 1808 building and upgraded it into the jailer's home. It was erected in 1808 as the 6th jail in Warrenton.

1810

Richard Henry Lee donated 71 acres of land for the county seat, which was incorporated as the Town of Warrenton in 1810.​

1815

1882

Marshall, Virginia - renamed in 1882 in honor of Chief Justice John Marshall, has experienced many changes since the town was surveyed and platted by John Mauzy in 1797.

1966

In 1966, the complex was closed and taken over by the Fauquier Historical Society to be preserved as a history museum.

1987

The current volume was first published in hardback form in extremely limited quantities in 1987, and it became an immediate classic.

1996

In 1996 a large part of the "loose papers" from the basement of the Fauquier County Courthouse was sorted, catalogued, indexed, and filed systematically.
