Faurecia Exhaust Systems Inc history

The refocusing of the two subsidiaries around an automotive components core led to their merger in 1987.

Epéda-Bertrand Faure fought off a hostile takeover attempt by another major French automotive components maker, Valeo, in 1988.

In 1991, the company acquired control of Germany's Rentrop, a major seating systems manufacturer in that country.

On December 11, 1997, BFG launched a takeover bid which was intended to increase its direct and indirect shares in ECIA to 99 percent.

The merger, completed in 1998, created a new French and European giant, Faurecia.

In 1999, Faurecia acquired the American company AP Automotive Systems, and was thus able to expand its business for exhaust systems on the North American market.

The most significant step in this growth came in 2001, when the company acquired the automotive division of France's struggling Sommer Allibert.

Then in November 2004, Faurecia received a contract worth nearly $2 billion to produce instrument panels, door panels, center consoles, and other cockpit components for Chrysler's United States automobiles.

In 2006, the Faurecia Chairman and Chief Executive, Pierre Levi resigned amidst bribery investigations.

In November 2009, Faurecia announced that they had signed a deal to acquire EMCON Technologies, an integrator of emissions control technologies for passenger and commercial vehicles.
