JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Medical Technologist or MLT duties to include, but not limited to:
- Demonstrates technical expertise necessary for accurate and reliable performance of testing in all applicable (chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, serology, blood banking and limited microbiology/molecular) areas of the laboratory
- Performs patient, quality control, proficiency, quality assurance testing and required documentation processes timely and accurately
- Acquires and updates knowledge pertinent to policies, specimen collection, test procedures, and instrumentation
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- ASCP certification required - will accept either Medical Lab Scientist / Medical Technologist or MLT

Responsibilities
Accurately prepares and submits purchase orders and requisitions for drugs and supplies. Answers the telephone, takes messages, and directs calls to appropriate personnel. Assists in the coordination and completion of the annual inventory. Assists pharmacist in coordinating/scheduling preparation of sterile admixtures. Prepares and generates batch for preparation of sterile admixtures. Completes pharmaceutical records and other records as indicated. Ensures the clean room, warehouse, and related equipment are cleansed and maintained per organizational policy and procedures. Generates labels and packages in accordance with the dispensing order and under the supervision of a pharmacist. Maintains a thorough and accurate clinical record for each patient receiving care. Completes required written documentation in a timely fashion in order to facilitate efficient, safe, and continuous care between team members. Monitors for and appropriately returns or destroy expired or unusable drugs per policy/procedures. Participate with the pharmacist to enter and process new prescriptions and refills in the computer and to monoitor, maintain, prepare and pack orders for drugs and related supplies for specific patient populations. Your Job Responsibilities
• Answers the telephone and front window.
• Compounds products in IV Lab using sterile, aseptic technique
• Gathers items needed for miscellaneous requisitions, orders, crash carts, etc. to be checked by pharmacist prior to dispensing.
• Maintains clean and orderly work area; restocks returned medications, restocks work area to appropriate levels.
• Assists in maintaining inventory levels of pharmaceuticals and supplies by notifying purchasing when items become low or increased usage of particular items in observed: utilized the “short list”.
• Maintains drug storage systems through restock and trouble-shooting functions
• Maintains Unit Inspections outside the department

• Perform charges and credits for floor stock sheets, narcotic sheets, miscellaneous charge slips, and returned medications into computer system.

About this Job:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Assists pharmacists in obtaining patient specific information as appropriate for safe medication management. Under direct supervision participates in the exchange of information with appropriate healthcare professionals and staff.
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
Ensures that medications are properly and safely stored throughout the hospital. Stores medications under conditions necessary to ensure stability. Secures medications in accordance with the hospital's policy law and regulation. Refills and replaces medications in automated medication dispensing machines throughout the hospital. Troubleshoots and services automated medication dispensing machines as needed. Appropriately labels all medications and chemicals used to prepare medications with contents expiration dates and appropriated warnings. Routinely inspects all medication storage areas according to hospital's policy. Adheres to all laws regulations and hospital policies regarding the management and handling of recalled discontinued unused expired or returned medications. Inspects returned medications for integrity before returning to pharmacy stock. Segregates outdated or recalled medications from pharmacy stock.
Transports medication to patient care units placing in the designated delivery locations within established departmental standards for turnaround times.
Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
Minimal Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or GED required
Completion of an approved/accredited Pharmacy Technician training program preferred
Experience
6 months related pharmacy technician experience and hospital environment experience preferred
Licenses and Certifications
Registered Pharmacy Technician through the Board of Pharmacy required and
Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification within 180 Days required

Graduate of certified Radiologic Technology school or program.

Level I - Current applicable state LRT license as you continue toward your ARRT-R registry. Current American Heart Association BLS is also required.
Level II - 1-year of previous experience in the field of Angiography/Cardiac Catheterization, ACLS, BLS, applicable state LRT and ARRT-R required.
Level III - 2-years previous experience in the field of Angiography/Cardiac Catheterization is required. You must demonstrate proficiency in the operation of Cath Lab x-ray table equipment and demonstrate knowledge of Cath Lab product inventory.
Current applicable state LRT, ARRT-R, and ACLS is required. RCIS, CI, VI is preferred. Current American Heart Association BLS is also required.
