1989: The Fazoli's restaurant concept is created.
When Toyoda took over the operations of Fazoli's in 1990, the average unit volume for each of the five restaurants had been about $500,000 per year.
By 1992, the company had grown to include over 35 Fazoli's restaurants.
Within a couple years, however, the chain was, in fact, expanding rap idly. It almost doubled that figure in 1993 by adding 25 additiona l locations, giving Fazoli's a total count of 62 restaurants througho ut the states of Kentucky, Florida, and Indiana.
In early 1994, the company brought aboard Toyoda's former boss at Jerrico--Ernest Renaud&mdash a marketing vice-president and special consultant.
In late 1994, Fazoli's began testing the potential for food court and strip mall versions of its restaurants to achieve success.
A goal was set to open at least 120 Fazoli's units by 1996.
Meanwhile, in a surprising move, Seed Restaurant Group introduced a new Italian restaurant concept called Bella Notte in 1996.
As the company entered 1998, Toyoda began announcing that some time in the near future, the company would be going public in order to fund a true nationwide expansion campaign.
1999: The company opens its first restaurant in Utah.
Forty franchise restaurants opened their doors in 2000 in new markets including Las V egas, Washington DC, and Minneapolis-St Paul.
McDonald's c hanged its strategy in 2003, however, and decided to end the venture.
In early 2004, the company launched its Smart Italian marketing camp aign which featured eight menu items with eight grams of fat or less.
2004: Dietitian Elizabeth Somer is hired to help develop healt hy low-calorie dishes.
2005: Fazoli's eliminates the trans fat found in its breadstic ks.
The corporate headquarters are located on Palumbo Drive in Lexington, KY. Carl Howard has been Chief Executive Office and president since June 2008.
In July 2015, Sun Capital Partners sold the chain to Sentinel Capital Partners.
In 2017, Fazoli’s announced the launch of its first app-based loyalty program with mobile ordering capabilities.
Fazoli’s today announced business highlights for 2018 that included a year-over-year sales increase of 1.4 percent at company locations and 10 new restaurant openings.
Seizing an opportunity to revitalize the restaurant industry, in June, the brand launched an aggressive conversion strategy as part of its 2020 Franchise Incentive Program.
During 2020, Fazoli’s opened three new locations in Cartersville, Georgia; Jacksonville, North Carolina; and Sedalia, Missouri, as well as opened its first-ever ghost kitchen in Atlanta.
By early spring of 2021, wings will once again be a big part of Fazoli’s success strategy when the new menu items roll out systemwide as part of the brand’s core menu.
