The Maintenance Technician I supports the FedEx Industrial Maintenance for material handling to complete preventative and predictive maintenance and repair of material handling systems. Will utilize prescribed processes as they relate to mechanical power transmission, electrical, PLC/controls, welding/fabrication and other industrial maintenance related systems. May troubleshoot component and systems issues.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Provides basic preventative and predictive maintenance and repair of material handling systems in mainly mechanical power transmission and will work to build stronger skills in electrical and PLC/controls and welding/fabrication.
* Will diagnose simple mechanical power transmission issues visually or audibly apparent at the single component level

MINIMUM EDUCATION

* Six (6) year's experience, four (4) of those in FedEx Industrial Maintenance or external supporting similar material handling systems by demonstrating subject matter expertise in mechanical power transmission, electrical and PLC/Controls and advanced welding/fabrication skills through job experience, related military experience and/or related education required.
* Multiple certificates and degrees may be assessed by manager and HR to determine relevancy to minimum qualifications and experience

* Ability to anticipate, identify and repair problems using sound judgement and fact-based analysis

This position is required to safely and accurately perform general property and vehicle maintenance & repair duties in and around the shop operations in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge and understanding basic preventative maintenance and repair techniques of Class 5 through Class 8 commercial vehicles to include tank trailer inspection and maintenance related to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations is required.
Diesel Mechanic Essential Functions:
All fleet mechanic positions will be required to perform vehicle maintenance & repair duties safely and accurately in and around the shop operations in a fast-paced environment.
Fleet Mechanic Apprentices will receive hands on training and instruction on preventive maintenance/inspections/repairs of Class 5 through Class 8 Commercial Vehicles and maintenance/inspection of tank trailers.
Fleet Mechanic Levels I & II will learn and become proficient utilizing the company's maintenance software program to create and complete work orders and maintain work order/vehicle maintenance records. They will also train/assist other technicians in performing preventive/repair of facilities and equipment to include trucks, tractors, and trailers.
Fleet Mechanic Level III will build on the duties from Diesel Mechanic I/II and become qualified as necessary with appropriate certifications to perform new technology evaluations, diagnosis, and repairs.
HM183 will build on the duties of a Level III Diesel Mechanic, Certified as a (DOT) commercial motor vehicle inspector in compliance with FMCSR's
Has been signing test forms as the Registered Inspector for at least 3 years.

JOB SUMMARY
The technicians must be able to complete diagnosis of any mechanical, electrical, or other various failures/breakdowns of a truck or its related equipment. This position will also perform disassembly, repair, and reassembly of truck engines, transmissions, carrier assemblies, clutches, brakes, electrical systems, and any other truck or related equipment adjustment/repairs.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS AND PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Trained to use all tools of trade, including precision instruments and technical shop machines and diagnostic tools.
Use previous and on the job training to read and understand technical publications, including on-line service software and service bulletins. He/she must be able to use information contained in them to do their own work and to assist others concerning the content.
He/She will learn to determine usability of all component parts and must be able to list and order all needed parts using the dealer management system.
Must be able to complete work accurately and timely as outlined in published time standards guidelines.
Must be able to write and/or type a good description of all work performed on each individual repair using the dealer management system.
Ability to perform all aspects of the job safely and in accordance with OSHA and Bruckner's rules and regulations expressed and implied.
Understands the importance of attendance and punctuality and how it directly impacts customer service.
Is a good steward of company tools and resources.
Achieves and maintains certifications as required by the company, the OEM's or by Federal Law.
