Specialty Print Communications feeder job description

Assist web press manufacturing by operating the auto splicer and infeed. Ensure correct paper is hung according to SPC job ticket. Promote teamwork, provide support for other crew members and maintain a safe work environment.
• Operate press auto splicer and infeed.
• Record tonnage and gross counter quantities for paper roll usage.
• Monitor and ensure proper and consistent level of ink is maintained in all ink fountains.
• Maintain fountain solution supply and monitor conductivity. Log conductivity readings and adjust to target level as needed.
• Maintain glue supply and monitor thickness of glues with appropriate Zahn cup and make adjustments as needed to ensure consistency.
• Dispose of consumable waste in the appropriate containers.
• Assist in makeready operations – bend and hang plates, web up the press, setup ancillary equipment.
• Assist in wash-ups.
• Assist in changing blankets.
• Monitor the weighing of loads of finished product to verify counts using a floor scale to accurately track final press counts.
• Under direction of 1st Pressman, gather and prepare supplies on upcoming jobs before the previous job ends. This includes job ticket, paper, ink, plates, glue, dies.

• Maintain a safe work environment ensuring compliance to safety guidelines and housekeeping rules.

: (not limited to) Ability to:
  1. read & comprehend simple instructions
  2. frequently carry up to 30 lbs & occasionally up to 70 lbs
  3. use material handling equipment (such as electric hand jacks) in a safe manner by adhering to the operating instructions & procedures of each piece of equipment
  4. work overtime when required

  4. Communicates with operators, supervisors, &/or mail prep as questions of quality, mailing & distribution & /or safety arise.
  5. Completes take-apart by separating the rejected sections & sorts into original signatures/sections for reuse; & discards damaged sections.
  6. Contributes to a favorable working environment within the company by developing good working relationships through a friendly & cooperative manner
  7. Maintains a clean, safe & organized environment; picks up debris & sweeps the work area, breaks down boxes, separates & empties garbage into proper recycling bins.
  8. Use caution around exposed moving machine parts, equipment & procedures.
  9. Works Safely at all times by complying with company safety policies & procedures

Career Opportunity
Responsible for feeding cartons onto belt and packing cartons using automatic packer or hand packing. May be assigned duties to utilize pallet jack transporting pallets of cartons in area where no forklift traffic is allowed. May also be assigned to assist the wrapper position utilizing forklift skillsets. Support plant initiatives and directives. Maintain housekeeping and 5S to standards set by management. What You Need to Succeed:
• Must be able to lift cartons onto belt.
• Able to bend and move to pack cartons onto belt.
• Must be willing to float to other jobs as needed.
• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Manufacturing experience preferred but not required.
Expectations/Guidelines:
• Check job specifications to materials in use.
• Place cartons on belt maintaining proper stack height, carton direction, and ensure stack is straight.
• Change pallets and/or loads.
• Determine packing specifications.
• Pack cartons using automatic packer or hand packs cartons.
• Perform quality audits during production and packs finished cartons into corrugated cases.
• If operating Cello, stop machine before film rolls run out and perform film changeover, add glue to glue pots or adjust the film as needed.
• Utilize electric pallet jack to transport cartons between forklift drop-off area and area to be stored.
• Managers request only - may be assigned to assist wrapper position utilizing forklift skillsets.
Essential/Marginal Functions and Physical Requirements
Essential: Lift cartons onto belt. Pack cartons into corrugated boxes. May be required to transport cartons via electric pallet jacks from forklift drop off point to storage point.
Marginal: May be required to work in flat pack/sorting as needed. Manager Approved Only: may be required to assist wrapper position as needed.
Education Requirement(s): Minimum High School Diploma/GED.
