The Center for Social Justice is a center based at Loyola University College of Law in New Orleans, Louisiana that provides capital appellate and post-conviction representation to indigent people on Louisiana's death row, as well as juveniles facing sentences of life without parole. This position is a one-year fellowship that may be extended to a second year, for recent law grads interested in gaining experience representing individuals who have been sentenced to death. The fellow will be supervised by senior attorneys, and will have a substantial role in informing the litigation strategies, reviewing records, meeting with clients, conducting legal research, drafting appellate briefs, and mooting oral arguments. Prior fellowship recipients have gone on to work in capital trial, appeal and post-conviction offices, as well as in academia and other employment opportunities.
Examples of Duties
* Assist teams with all aspects of representation, including legal research and writing, file management, records collection, document review, filing legal pleadings, etc.
* Visitation of clients in prison
* Assist with investigation, including research and records review and witness interviewing

Typical Qualifications
* Minimum Juris Doctor degree from a U.S. accredited insitition. Current 3L or recent law school graduates are encrouaged to apply.

* Excellent writing and oral advocacy skills

About the role:
The Law & Policy Intern will provide a wide range of support for our ongoing projects, including advancing prosecution reform, jail population reduction, increasing investment in thriving communities, and addressing Louisiana's carceral impact in multiple parishes and at the state legislature. The Law and Policy Intern will be supervised primarily by the Senior Program Associate and will complete a variety of projects with other staff. This internship will provide an opportunity for the intern to gain knowledge and experience in research, writing, advocacy, local and state government relations, and criminal legal systems in New Orleans and other parts of Louisiana.
This position is open to a student located in Louisiana and enrolled in law school or post-graduate policy program in which an internship will fulfill an academic credit or course/graduation requirement. This position is unpaid.

Postdoctoral Scholar - Computational Materials Science

A postdoc position is available in the Materials Theory and Computation (MaTComp) group at Tulane University (New Orleans, LA) under the direction of Prof. Jianwei Sun. The research will focus on density functional theory (DFT) development. Three major directions are: 1) meta-generalized gradient approximations, 2) local hybrid density functionals to treat self-interaction error and strong correlation with a computational efficiency similar to popular hybrid density functionals, 3) calculating/visualizing/modelling the exchange correlation hole for challenging systems that undergird density functional approximations and using the understanding to develop nonlocal density functionals. Additionally, the researcher will apply cutting edge density functionals to solve material problems in the sustainable energy economy and quantum information technology where self-interaction correction is critical.
