The Perlin lab in the Department of Biology at the University of Louisville, seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the lab in investigations of plant/parasite interactions. The successful candidate must have either a PhD in Biology or a related field and at least 8 months Postdoctoral Research experience. The successful candidate must have at least 3 years experience with higher-level Bioinformatics, including comparative genomics, analysis of RNASeq data for plants and fungi, as well as expert practical application of R software packages, and the ability to produce custom scripts/coding for analyses. Such analyses will include genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic data analysis. Familiarity with sterile technique and proper handling of microbes is required, as is extensive experience growing wildflower species and infecting them with fungi. Also required is experience extracting and purifying RNAs from fungi, plants, and infected plants is a must, as is production of cDNA, real-time qPCR, and use of nanodrop machine. In addition to these requirements, the candidate will also need to have worked with Microbotryum fungi and be able to genetically transform such fungi. Experience with protein purification from plants, cross-linking of proteins in live plants, and downstream proteomics analysis is desired. Some supervision/guidance of graduate and undergraduate students is also required. Hiring is to be completed by March 1, 2026, to begin work April 1, 2026. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Conducting, supervising, and analyzing in planta protein cross-linking experiments; analyzing the resulting data.
2) Conducting RNASeq experiments and analyzing the data to determine differential gene expression and characterize categories of genes.
3) Serving as a resource for doctoral and undergraduate students in the lab, especially in bioinformatics analyses.
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Biology or related field; at least 8 months Postdoctoral experience. At least 2 years experience in working with Microbotryum fungi, including growth, genetic transformation, and infections of host plants in the Caryophyllaceae. At least 3-4 years of extensive experience with R software, Bioinformatics, Comparative Genomics, and coding to generate customized scripts. Experience with clear and analytical scientific writing. Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with protein isolation/purification as well as characterization. Microscopy proficiency. Critical thinking. Expertise in handling Big Data.

Physical Requirements:

This position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative and interdisciplinary setting, engaging with researchers specializing in time- organic synthesis (Dr. Anthony's group) and time-resolved EPR spectroscopy. The postdoctoral researcher will play a key role in connecting spectroscopic observations with theoretical models and synthetic advances, contributing to the broader effort of designing next-generation quantum and optoelectronic materials. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in ultrafast spectroscopy, photophysics, or condensed-phase dynamics, along with experience in experimental design, data acquisition and analysis. The Organic Materials and Devices (OMD) group seeks one or more postdoctoral scholars for the development of high-performance organic electronic devices. Applicants for this position must have experience in organic electronic devices, and especially in transistors made from a broad class of organic electronic materials.
The successful candidate(s) will be responsible for training lab members on how to carry out experiments, how to use equipment, how to handle and correctly process data, as well as monitoring student progress and equipment use to ensure equipment is being used and maintained properly and ensure safety standards, and ensure student developmental progress.
The candidate(s) are expected to works across several projects to support the PI, as well as support the students for data collection and analysis. The candidate(s) must be adept at fabricating electronic devices, maintaining laboratory equipment, working across projects, and data analysis and interpretation.
The successful candidate(s) will also have primary responsibilities focused on the following:
a. Contributes data/findings for use in reports, manuscripts, articles, oral/written presentations. Writes process, maintenance, and protocol documentation, such as standard operating procedures, to ensure a continuation of smooth running of the lab. Ensures timely delivery on project milestones.
b. Conducts physical tests, including, utilizing extensive electrical measurements, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and microscopy.
c. Conducts electronic device fabrication using solution processing, thermal evaporation, photolithography, and glovebox use. May independently lead sub-task level activities on projects.
d. Trouble shoots lab instrumentation. Records operating data such as process conditions, test results, and instrument readings. Compiles data and carried out extensive analysis on data. Monitors assigned resources, including equipment, space, cost and schedules.
