POSITION DESCRIPTION Lorie. A. Slutsky Philanthropy Fellow This Fellowship is named for the third President of The Trust and endowed through contributions from Trust donors, board, staff, and other foundations. This Fellow will be housed in the General Counsel's office but will work with other Trust departments. The Fellow will focus on significant issues affecting community foundations and the philanthropic sector (e.g., proposed changes in donor-advised fund rules, trends in philanthropy, assisting with collaborative funds, etc.). The Fellow will support Trust staff in specific administrative, programmatic, donor, and legal projects and work closely with other Fellows. Requirements FELLOWSHIP ELIGIBILITY AND DETAILS Applicants must be a student in a full-time graduate program. Typically, applicants are candidates for the following degrees: MA, MS, MPH, MPA, MPP, MSW, MEd, JD. Applicants must have existing authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship. This is a temporary and time-limited Fellowship. Fellows start on Monday, June 1, 2026. The Fellowship ends in May 2027. Fellows must commit to the entire period. Fellows must remain enrolled as full-time graduate students for the entire duration of the Fellowship. Fellows' field of graduate study must match an aspect of the Fellowship. Fellowships are intended as learning experiences to complement Fellows' graduate study. This is not an entry-level position at The Trust or intended to lead to one. RESPONSIBILITIES The Lorie. A. Slutsky Philanthropy Fellow should have excellent research, writing, and proofreading skills; a commitment to detail and accuracy; strong organizational skills; and an ability to work both independently and as a team member. Because much of the analysis done by this Fellow will relate to philanthropic rules, regulations, and legislation, there is a preference for law school students with legal research and writing experience. This Fellow will work under the supervision of the General Counsel's office. COMPENSATION Fellowships pay is $25 an hour. The position is on-site at our New York office, and we provide several remote options (holiday remote week, August remote month, monthly remote days, etc.). Fellows are eligible for paid federal holidays and state-mandated safe/sick leave. Fellows also receive pay for the week when The Trust is closed (August 31 to September 4 2026). The Fellowships start on Monday, June 1, 2026. SAR High School is a mission-driven, co-educational, Modern Orthodox Jewish high school committed to student-centered learning in a challenging and supportive environment. The SAR High School Beit Midrash is a vibrant center for student and adult learning, a highly accessible resource center and, at the same time, a friendly gathering place. Our six full-time Beit Midrash Fellows learn each day in the Beit Midrash which is, physically and philosophically, the center of SAR High School. Judaic studies classes utilize the Beit Midrash and the Fellows for small group learning. Each fellow is also closely mentored by Judaic Studies faculty members. The Fellows also help design and implement co-curricular activities which promote ruach, chesed, Medinat Yisrael, and SAR's annual theme. There are two tracks to the fellows program, a professional track and a chinuch track. One evening a week Fellows learn for forty minutes after school with students. Fellows in graduate school will have some flexibility scheduling classes on one afternoon a week. The Anthony Lester Fellowships support lawyers or law students undertaking practical fieldwork in human rights/ the rule of law. The fellowships honour the memory and legacy of Anthony Lester QC (Lord Lester of Herne Hill), one of Britain's most distinguished human rights lawyers. As a young lawyer, he twice visited the American South during the civil rights movement and wrote a report on race relations. His experiences there inspired his pioneering work as a barrister and legislator. The Anthony Lester Fellowships are intended to support lawyers and law students early in their careers to undertake a project of their choosing that helps affect positive, practical change in relation to the rule of law and human rights, inspired by his experience. Terms of the Fellowship Two fellowships will be awarded for activities beginning no sooner than July 1, 2026. Fellows will be awarded a stipend of US $25,000 to cover their costs during the fellowship. It is expected that the project will comprise full time work for the fellows for a minimum of three months. At the end of the fellowship, fellows will be invited to give a presentation at Bard's campus in New York's Hudson Valley (their travel and accommodation costs will be paid). Fellows will write a short report on their project, to be published on the programme's website. Fellows may wish to publish their report elsewhere (crediting their support from the Anthony Lester Fellowships at Bard College). They will also have the chance to discuss their work with those who worked with Anthony Lester at the Odysseus Trust, which supported his legislative work. About Anthony Lester Anthony Lester (1936-2020) was an eminent human rights barrister and legislator. He argued leading cases in British, European and Commonwealth courts and developed the burgeoning field of public law. He campaigned for thirty years for the Human Rights Act 1998. As special adviser to Roy Jenkins, he helped devise the Sex Discrimination and Race Relations Acts. His activities in the Lords led to legislation on civil partnership, forced marriage, equality and defamation reform. He worked with human rights NGOs at home and overseas and founded the human rights charity Interights. The ideas that motivated him are recorded in his book Five Ideas to Fight For (2016). Supports envisioning and development of research initiatives on the art and architecture of Seoul, South Korea for The Museum of Modern Art's Contemporary and Modern Art Perspectives (C-MAP) program. Led by a member of MoMA's curatorial team and constituted of MoMA staff members from across curatorial departments, this C-MAP group will focus on Seoul, South Korea, exploring its rich cultural history in a transdisciplinary manner while also identifying and developing program possibilities at MoMA. Following the direction of the group leader, and in consultation with the International Program Department, the Fellow will plan, coordinate, and document a program of monthly group meetings at MoMA (in-person or virtual as needed) featuring scholars, artists and curators, as well as travel for C-MAP group members to the city of focus. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist in Human Rights First's efforts to promote and facilitate the credible use of targeted human rights and anti-corruption sanctions under the Global Magnitsky sanctions program and other similar authorities, including working with other civil society groups to identify issues of concern. In coordination with the Accountability team and other NGOs, prepare recommendations identifying Magnitsky-style sanctions targets to governments to quickly respond to developing human rights crises, and identify advocacy opportunities to support the effective use of sanctions. Work with the Accountability team to address time-sensitive issues related to emerging U.S. foreign policy and human rights issues, and conduct fact-finding and research on human rights and rule of law trends in the United States and relevant regions, as assigned. Participate in meetings and other advocacy with executive branch officials and members of Congress and their staff on Capitol Hill. Research and draft reports, blogs, op-eds, and other materials relating to the use of U.S. and other government sanctions tools and other accountability mechanisms, and the human rights implications of U.S. foreign policy and democratic backsliding. Assist in organizing public events or private convenings related to the use and misuse of targeted human rights and anti-corruption sanctions. Update and develop resources related to targeted human rights and anti-corruption sanctions, such as recommendation templates, sanctions explainers, spreadsheets tracking sanctions designations, frequently asked questions, etc. Assist with efforts to analyze, prevent, and respond to the misuse of targeted sanctions powers that undermine accountability institutions and mechanisms like the International Criminal Court. Young Invincibles (“YI”) is a non-profit, non-partisan advocacy organization working to expand economic opportunity for young people ages 18 to 34 and to amplify their voices in the national political conversation and policy arena.
